Recently re-subbed after giving this game a (failed) attempt a couple of years back, seems to be sticking this time around but I do require some help. :P
After some roaming around I've come to the conclusion the best course of action would be to train basic, necessary skills to II-III, maybe an occasional IV and save the V's for later where I can group them together via remap and cut down the training time considerably but I can't really seem to find a listing of *what* skills are considered the early *do want* stuff. Linking my eveboard below; am I missing anything?

I usually look for a ship (class) I wan't to fly and train the required skills for this. After the basics I go for the certificates associated with that ship and try to get the mastery to at least III or even IV. Next priority are required skills for any shiny equipment I want to utilize...
Of course, I make detours now and then, when I feel to urge to up my industrial or social skills for whatever reason. And when I really don't know, what to train, I fall back to the Magic 14. |

Should be fixed...
tl;dr: A list of skills with minimal prerequisites, which benefit you in every ship:
- CPU Management
- Power Grid Management
- Capacitor Management
- Capacitor Systems Operations
- Mechanics
- Hull Upgrades
- Shield Management
- Shield Operation
- Long Range Targeting
- Signature Analysis
- Navigation
- Evasive Maneuvering
- Warp Drive Operation
- Spaceship Command
My fallback option is, to get them all to level 5. |

One of your first decisions is to pick a career. Missioning Mining PvP Trading etc.
Then pick a shipline, race, or specific ship that will directly impact that career. Most races have a reasonable line of ships for every job, but some races are just flat out better at some things. Early on, being the BEST is not as important as it might be later.
Don't get caught up buying every skill that comes available. Try and focus on YOUR chosen path, at least for the first 6 months. That path will change several times in your career, but it gets easier to do as you go along.
You might think about joining a corp of like minded players. EVE is much more fun if you can find a group that does the same thing. They can teach you, support you. If you find yourself in a group of a$$holes or a corp that is stagnate/dead... leave immediately and move on. There are plenty of good corps in EVE. |
