I wouldn't
Experience is gained from doing something and you learn from the outcome, doesn't matter if the outcome was a success or failure, the important part is you learn from it and factor what you have learnt into whatever you do next where what you learnt is relevant. |

I started roaming lowsec solo around 500,000 sp and managed to get a few kills.
I'd say it depends what you want to fly. Frigates have a low skill ceiling. You could have 1 million sp and blow up someone with 30 million sp in a 1v1 frigate fight. Grim Progression - Watch me get kersploded!

With all those pro high SP solo PvPers trying to talk others down here you could think the main thing in eve is solo pvp instead of it being a niche |

It's almost as if skillpoints or player skill matters with 1000 fleet members. #GORSKI4CSM https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4265138#post4265138

It does, a low SP 1000 man group in ****** T1 cruisers who don't know how to fly them usually doesn't have a chance against a high SP 1000 man group in T3s who know them in and out.
But we shouldn't go from one extreme to the other
The simple botton line of this thread imho should be that low SP shouldn't stop you from PvP and that Eve is no single player game. Find a group to roam with and you can have fun PvPing whatever your SP.

I started PvPing with around 3-4 million SP & that was OK, if a bit limiting on occasions.
There's a lot more links around in low-sec these days however so the busier areas are probably less viable for newbie PvPrs than they used to be.
Depends what sort of PvP you want really - when you're very new then running T1 tackle for large gangs is probably easier than doing small gang work. They both teach you skills but slightly different ones.

For a while, I had a PvP char that I purposely kept at sub-900k levels and it did pretty well for itself, Sure, I had to be more considerate of the fights I picked than normal (which was an awesome learning experience, actually, as I had never bothered to learn the whole "pick your battles carefully" part prior), but there were still plenty of victories to be had. Sure, it was limited to frigs, but there are still a lot of great battles available to frigs (also, no Thermodynamics, because getting Science to the pre-req levels accounts for half your SP), but it was still a great character to play.
Sadly, I've since opted to essentially mothball the character for about a year to train it into a much more specialized role.
Even so, you can PvP just fine at 900k SP or less. You'll have to learn how to pick your fights, but it's still a great experience! |

Assuming they are properly alocated. In the fallowing areas what is a good number of skill points to have for pvp? Solo Small gang Big Gang Tournament events

Fixed typo in thread title. ISD Ezwal.

Sad to say, almost all my PvP was back when i was a low SP (sub 30 mill) character.
These days with less time in EVE I tend to log in check some stuff with my carebear alts and log off.
Yesterday for example all I did was move 20 Itty Vs to a better market and then queue 20 more and change the sell price on 300 or so Ventures that were not selling at a hub then logged in a different alt and grabbed about half a bill of P2 from a 0.3 system and ran them back to highsec for Red Frogging to a hub.
Not a skeric of PvP these days. |

My PvP character, currently at just under 30m SP (EVEBoard). This is very much work in progress though. I need to finish up with this remap and then finalize the perception and willpower skills. :)
I like Tippias's character and I see her point. Personally, I would train a fair chunk of those IVs to V. While you can definitely attribute wins and losses to player skill, the actual skill points do matter to a degree. Not having a single gunnery support skill trained to V, against a pilot who's of equal skill and does have these at V, could easily mean the difference.
It's not JUST that extra % of damage. It's the extra damage + tracking + Rate of fire + Falloff + less cap used by prop mod, guns, scram, web, ... + that extra cycle of overheating + drugs + everything else. It just adds up.
There will be situations where your cap dies, the scram turns off and your target gets out. Those situations could have potentially been avoided by having that little bit of extra DPS and cap you'd get from having those skills at V.
That said, this character is just a year old and is well on its way to catch it. In a way it's already even. Of course you can PvP with any amount of skill points. Personally I'd go for the Magic 14 at IV (ideally V) + racial frigate V + t2 guns (with IV gunnery support). |
