Since rookie ships are free, is using a 900K alt flying rookie ships a fun way to stick your nose repeatedly in FW to see what it is all about?
How would you invest those 900K skills for these purposes? What modules would you stick on the ship (ok, so there is some token expenditures here)?
When I decide to get more serious about this, what's a good staging area for Minmater pilots in high sec for FW (or does it depend on the corp you join)? I'd probably like to set up industrial operations nearby to provide ships/modules to my alt and other pilots without trekking back to a trade hub.
BTW, is Minmater a decent choice for FW? |

I wouldn't use a rookie ship, because frigates are cheap and 100 times better. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Rookie ships for PvP? You've got me interested...
You can fit T1 Rifters for about 1mil a pop. Here is an example fit, though I personally would switch out the missiles for a neut/nos and put a damage control in one of the low slots. |

Pretty sure Rookie ships can't use the gates for FW complexes so there wouldn't be much point. |

Well, I thought it might be fun to see if I could get a group of "Rookie Chat" people to try out Rookie Ship PvP - but if it's completely boneheaded, NP.
But as for my other questions - I'd really like to start developing an alt for PvP. Minmatar a good FW choice? High sec staging area suggestion that has decent traffic? |

I have seen swarms of rookie ships own alliances in nul in the past. Key here would be numbers and experience, but since you may only have numbers I think small frigate gangs would be a better way to go. |

Well... you will certainly be acquainted with death and get used to the idea of losing ships... which is a positive thing if you want to join FW.
Charax Bouclier wrote:How would you invest those 900K skills for these purposes? What modules would you stick on the ship (ok, so there is some token expenditures here)? At a minimum, be able to use...
- a warp disruptor/scrambler - a stasis webifier - a MicrowarpDrive and Afterburner - a Damage Control
Beyond this it is up to you. Choose the racial ship line you want to focus on and the train the preferred tank/weapon style for that race.
Frigates and Destroyers will be your go-to ships in Faction Warfare.

BTW, is Minmater a decent choice for FW? - Each Faction Warfare side is no better or worse. They win, they lose... they have good people and bad people... etc. etc. Choose the side you feel you would like.
- If you join the Minmatar Militia then try to avoid the Ossogur/Amamake gate. It is usually camped by "professionals." There are a few back-ways (through the Dammalin system and Metropolis region).
- Most FW people tend to base in low-sec. Any industry we do (which isn't much) we either do locally or in an undisclosed high-sec area that is nowhere near our base of operations (for safety reasons).
- Most of us tend to just have stuff shipped directly from a nearby trade hub in bulk orders (either through alt characters or allies/friends' alt characters). If you can start your own trade run... you can actually make a decent profit. Ships and mods in low-sec tend to sell for a 10 to 40% mark-up depending on the area.
- Always try to join a corp. Make friends. Show you can be one of the "cool kids." Good things will follow. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

Just to fly around and see blinking orange bars on your overview? I guess you could. Eventually you'll want to actually kill someone and for that you'll need more skills and a frigate.
Keep in mind that FW is entirely in low sec so it's not just opposing militias that you'll encounter. |

You'll find that the majority of the cost of FW PvP comes from the cost of the modules, rather than the ship hulls themselves. A frigate costs 500k to 1M. It's not uncommon to for the total price of the fitted ship to be upward of 10 or 15 million depending on how many meta mods you use. Rookie ships are really only viable in pvp when used in blobs of extreme numbers. www.ensignyooch.wordpress.com

Every "boneheaded" event in EVE has a fun factor attached to it. The more boneheaded it is the more fun it is... You'll be extremely successful if you are able to get many boneheads in one place at the same time doing the same boneheaded thing.
PvP can be expensive for new players, but sticking to frigates and flying with few skill points will get you in the arena. Remember you are not the only new player asking these questions and you'll find many others with the same skill point levels and ships to shoot at and shooting at you. The main problem aren't even the ships - they aren't that weak compared to other frigates, especial if you haven't maxed your racial frigate skill yet. The problem is that they come with a civilian weapon that deals almost no damage and no other useful module.
Once you equip them with real weapons and other needed modules, a rookie ship can be surprisingly decent. But if you spend a few million ISK on modules, you might as well spend 300k more for a combat frigate hull and double your performance. |
