It's a no-brainer. We'd get a ton of people logging back into the game.
I'm not saying one way or the other whether it would be a good change or not. Just answering the OP.

I wasnt aware they had left.
The ice belt in Warouh lasted about two hours maximum yesterday due to the two dozen locusts that fell on it.
Unless you mean have them hang around the one place longer?

Discuss No, unless you mean bot miners, then yes. Yes. They would crash so hard, that even bot miners would struggle to make a PLEX. No. No, the ice or mineral market prices aren't even relevant to PLEX prices. The only thing relevant to PLEX prices is what someone is willing to pay for one, that is it, period, full stop. False. Just in the short time I've been playing, they undid loot spew from exploration containers.
If anything, they need to do the same thing with asteroid belts they did with ice belts.

I'm of the opinion that the hardest part of ice mining should be finding it... but when you do it should be relatively lucrative.
I also think there should be a "Claims" system in place, where a miner (of any type) can stake a claim to a particular resource for a very limited amount of time.
If someone "jumps your claim" (which should be entirely possible) they forfeit all Concord protection.
It should always be apparent if a particular resource has a claim on it or not.
Selling or giving someone the rights to mine from a "claim" that you own should be perfectly doable.
Some resources deplete quickly... and when gone so is the claim.
Some resources stick around a long time (and are in high demand) but the claim may still be short term and not instantly renewable by the same person unless a very stiff price is paid for a "long term claim".
Needless to say, in all cases there should be no accurate way to determine when a particular resource is due to play out, ESPECIALLY in the case of resources worthy of an expensive "long term claim".
Mining should always be a little bit of a gamble.

What you are saying isn't entirely true. They twaked exploration some yes..... I will give you that however.... Exploration is in no way the way it was. Gone are the clunky mechanics for probes. Gone are the static 1/10 Plexs. And hello annoying hacking minigame.
I do agree with you on the regular rock belts a million times over.....gankers have it entirely too easy. Make em' work a little.
Topic tho is what if ICE was to change back to what it was and what the impacts (if any) would play out. Its a pretty dumb question really.
1. You already know the old mechanics. 2. No-one was driven away from high-sec, that's in your pea-brain. 3. Changes to the game affect the economy. 4. PLEX are an element of the economy. 5. Increase in bots.

Limiting the resources drives the price up and therefor generates conflict. I think the situation is still developing, but I see more and more miners considering aggressive methods to secure their share of the ice. Meaningful conflict is the lifeblood of EVE, this change already drives meaningful conflicts and I think it will intensify even more.
Changing back to an infinite source would remove a great deal of potential content and fun from the game.
The "grinding for PLEX to get another month of boring grinding for PLEX"-playstyle should never be an argument for any change, because it has absolutely nothing to do with anything that makes this game fun and worth playing. the Code ALWAYS wins |
