I currently Fly L3 Missions in a T2 Drake. It is starting to feel like work. I have a job in RL and don't need another one. I have the ISK to move to another hull/faction. Perhaps I can find one that I find more to my liking. So my question for the folks that do L3 and L4 missions is: What do you fly and what makes it more fun for you then the others? Please no "I fly "X" because "Y" sucks". That is no help. If you do in fact like the Drake and enjoy it, tell me why. maybe I am missing something or more likely doing it wrong. Thanks! |

Move up to a battleship... or if you like a smaller ships a T3 for level 4s (you won't have to train larger guns/missiles).
The Abaddon has been my one and only ship for PvE. I just couldn't justify spending the bling on a Nightmare. |

A different approach might liven things up a bit for you. I'd recommend either training up to a battleship that suits your tastes for level 4 missions. For level 3's you might want to consider shipping down to an assault frigate. You wont complete the missions quite as quickly, but it will ramp up the fun aspect of the missions considerably. |

All forms of highsec PvE eventually get old and feel like a job IMO. You can switch up ships or do different types of PvE, but you're just prolonging the inevitable. When I did missions I started similar to you, with a Drake, then I switched to a Raven, Navy Scorpion, Navy Raven, Nightmare, Machariel, Tengu, Ishtar and finally a Rattlesnake but I got bored of them all in time. If I had to choose a ship I'd go with the Machariel, it's fast, has the warp speed bonus and does a ton of dps, it's the most 'fun' to fly while also not giving up any dps like a T3 would. I've also blitzed L3s in an Ishtar to unlock level 4s for Sisters of Eve which was good fun for awhile. |

battleships for max gank is how I roll. missions get VERY repetitive, but with super duper deepz you can at least have a chuckle at how fast you make npc explosions.
Flying a AF in high level missions quickly becomes a click orbit shoot guns repeat snooze fest. with high deepz you can at least roll through multiple missions in the same amount of time.
also probably worth getting a daredevil or two for burner missions. it seems to be the best ship for a few of the burner fights (awesome webs + high dps). not sure about the other one or two. You can trust me, I have a monocole |

I haven't flown a Drake since they murdered it a few patches back. Fact is, the Drake probably isn't good at anything now. (Or maybe it's heavy missiles?) ( Or both?) Try the Navy Drake, or move up to one of the BS the other posters have mentioned.
I use a Navy Raven I've owned for years. I don't really do missions for ISK exactly..... I do them when I want to chill in game and still be doing *something* productive. |

I only ever do missions for standings these days, most other activities earn you more for the time spent doing it. What makes EvE interesting isn't the solo content but doing stuff with others. |

Whenever I logged on to EVE, I try to set an objective for the time I spend ingame. If for example, I only have an hour to spare, I do lvl4 missions and try to earn as much ISK i can within the timeframe allowed. On an average, I'd earn 60M to 80M (LP + Loot + Bounties) and that in itself feels rewarding for me.
Anyway, there are a ton of things you can do in EVE. It's up to you on how to think of a way to better enjoy your sandbox. |

What makes you think that flying an other boat does make missions more fun? Missions stay static and boring in any boat, one boat can do the mission just faster then an other. |

If you are aiming for fun, try using smaller ships. Try blaster moa for l4's for example....or HAM caracal.....or Hawk!!!
If you are aiming for isk/hour, go for battleships/t3's. |

I fly tengu.
Its a lazy "cheap" tank. Speed sig tank, because of high skill am cap stable even with a ds small hardener. Ahven't given AE bonus room a go for a bit but nothing so far has me going oh crap tank wise.
Its easy to make hard to find. I like my privacy. Way mine is setup uses old unprovable mechanics (as the fit is old enough I used it back in them days) to be hard to find. Which gives the bene's of very jam proof as well as I see gurista missions a fair bit.
I hate BS's.....tried many. I am just not a big ship kind of guy. Think its just too much time on bashes has me hate being in them. Like the freedom of my smaller ships as it were. Just personal preference here really. Tried MJD runs and while nifty not me. if I want to think about angles to land where i want to be 2-3 moves out and such I call up a friend and say its time to shoot some pool and have a few beers lol.
Tengu is HML spec. I get a fair mix of long room missions and short room, but I tend to see rats at long range more. With HML the killing starts at longer range. Case of looking at time for me. Rush to close with hamgu time has its downsides to me. But I may give hamgu another go at some point. |

I use the paladin, kronos, and the vargur on a fairly regular basis. Of these if I had to pick one it would prolly be the vargur, with the kronos as a close second. Just personal preference really. Although, I put them ahead of the pally bc em/therm dmg type is needed less frequently than other types.
Marauders are nice for the ewar immunity and because they can loot + salvage well while in combat, and also use substantially less ammo compared to similar boats.
I'd suggest moving away from missiles if ur not too invested because: * gunnery support skills apply to 3 different weapon systems * you don't need to train target painting * missles don't mesh with incursions * turret boats usually have a variety of rig options, missile boats use rigors. * turret boats allow you options with hardwiring 6 and 8 without sacrificing weapon system enhancements. * if you ever run missions for the lulz with others, gunners will kill things sometimes before ur missiles even reach the target. |

I'd suggest moving away from missiles even if you are heavily invested in them. Not only are all the above true, but with large guns, you can usually insta-pop approaching frigs and cruisers, while medium guns insta-pop approaching frigs. Oversized missiles will never apply damage like that, no matter what range. Disclaimer: My opinion does not necessarily reflect that of my corp or alliance. My opinion is my own, and if you don't like, that is your problem. |

Like was said above, missioning will begin to feel like a grind regardless of ship. I keep a fleet of diverse ships so I can switch up play style when I want to keep it fresh(er).
For level 4s, things like a Rattler for drone warfare, CRN for sit and blast, MWD Vindicator w/ blasters for times when I want to get up close and be moving. I'll also fly a pimp Gila just to watch BSes fall to a cruiser.
All in all though, if missioning is feeling like a job or a grind, you need to find something else to do just to break it up - otherwise you'll burn out. Maybe build out an explorer Stratios or (depending on skills) go on a cloaked site seeing tour to the Eve gate. |

Thanks for all the replies! The general consensus seems to be: By a Battleship and go L4s. Fair enough. Unfortunately, that is not financially feasible at this time. While I could build a low end BS, I would have to violate the first rule of EVE. DonGÇÖt fly what you cannot afford to lose. In my case it would be GÇ£replaceGÇ¥. LOL So, I am going with the other idea presented and changing weapon systems. I did enjoy sniping when I first started playing. I donGÇÖt know if that is viable strategy beyond L1 missions. I have only flown Caldari ships (mostly missile fits). Is there a gun/rail Battlecruiser fit that can handle the blockade? That is the mission that caused me to go T2 on my Drake so I am leery of it. |

I fly a Golem, Paladin, and Vargur for level 4's.
Because no jamming thats why. And lazy is also why. No switching fittings for particular missions. Have them in 3 separate empires and jump clones to match implants to ships.
Non marauders that are fun to fly IMHO are Rattlesnake, Machariel, Fleet issue Typhoon, Armageddon, and Tengu.
I try to keep it diverse as possible to keep it from feeling like a 2nd job. Sometimes I blitz, sometimes I maraud, sometimes I rush several missions then noctis them all. Have in industry toon to make stuff out of reprocessed junk, pretty much have to have a PvP setup for hauling Pirate faction BP's to make stuff, and have a Stratios on a 7 year exploration mission.
I do a,little mining too. Have a baby and can mine and play with her at the same time. And gank miners. Because all miners are assholes. Accounts may not be used for business purposes. Access to the System and playing EVE is intended for your personal entertainment, enjoyment and recreation, and not for corporate, business, commercial or income-seeking activities.-á |

At minimum I have a Vargur and a Tengu at hand.
Vargur: for Ewar immunity and clearing+salvaging. Usually I have looted and salvaged everything 30 seconds after I killed my last rat. (salvage drones and 3 tractors.
Tengu: HAM Tengu for blitzing
If u are afraid to lose your ship when going o lvl 4s Id say train for a Dominix and sinse u are planning on changing weaponsystem go drones. The domi will have outstanding both application and projection so your tank will be no issue with all that range.
Eventually ull be able to use a Rattlesnake (missile/drones) and rock 1400DPS at close-medium range with a massive tank. |

My bro and i duo the L3's and 4's. i use a Rupture (ropey armor tank, just for ***** n giggles) and he's using a drake. It's fun because it's actually a fight - not a case of fly in pew pew leave, more like fly in, aggro, kill a few, back off and regen and fly in again.
Instapopping stuff is amusing for a while, but we found it to be slightly underwhelming when a mission or even a sansha site, is over in a few clicks GÇ£To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skillGÇ¥ |

It's mildly enjoyable to figure out a missions' triggers and blitz them for LP. Usually I just use them as a rapid method to increase sec stat, and keep an even wallet balance. I tend to welp a lot of cheap ships in pew pew. A few missions set me up for an entire night of frigate PVP so I tend to treat missions as in-between content snacks, to occupy one half of my brain while the other is on Teamspeak and chat channels. If hisec missions bore you, try lowsec or nullsec missions. They are not harder then hisec ones and range from level 1 to 5. The latter are fun to run with a fleet, although you will need to be a little ballsy and social to be able to join in on that content. |

what i fly and why-
when i dual box(no software, just two pcs) i fly mjd dominix. fairly quick killing big missions.
when i want to loot- vargur or golem
when i want to fly passive- rattlesnake, great tank, excellent damage, missions go quick. when i get too many gurista/serp/sansa- vargur or golem, no more jams.
when i want fly fast- ishtar, still handles l4's just fine.
all the above are reasonably easy to change fit for extry tank, range, etc.
i still have my drake(s). i use them to run l4 recon 3. one of them is now a poor man's command ship.
havent used an assault frig in l4 in some time. was fun the first couple times, but about as slow as a drake would be now in l4's. |

Didn't do them for a while and since Mina finnished missile skills I planted her in fleet phoon and another girl in nestor both shield tanked got north of 2700dps combined over some 80-90km, curator cruise for phoon curator tachions for Nestor.
Was rather fun considering both ships are light on tank and just when rats start to brake tank they switch to 2nd ship they constantly did that.
Missions happened in amarr and both ships had huge em hole there was melting on both sides but was actually fun largely becouse it seems that particular agent did not see a pod pilot in a while and bombarded with blockade and assault missions.
Bur yeah another day or so and I am rdy to took 3-4 month brake from missions. If not for mina horrible amar standing wouldn't even bother otherwise. http://i.imgur.com/1N37t.jpg
