The following expansion of the September 30, you have translated EVE to French. Spanish is the third most used language on the Internet. There is a project? to translate EVE to Spanish?, as you have done with the French?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that, while spanish is spoken widely throughout the world, for some reason there are more french speakers in eve.
and again, i have no facts. just conjecture. |

While language specific clients are awesome to attract new players to EVE, let's get the rest of EVE fixed up *FIRST* so no matter what language is involved the game returns to greatness.

Vyl Vit wrote:Yeah...except...Brazilians speak Portuguese. at no point in this thread anyone suggested otherwise.
the main problem with this is the simple fact that there's a TON of Latin Americans playing many games online already, games like WoW, Planetside 2, EVE and Rift as of late, the reason you can't tell they are there its mainly because Spanish peaking Latin America has a level of English speakers fairly similar to that of northern Europe. countries like Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina have English as a second language since early middle school. so by the time they start roasting their brains online, they already have a fairly good level of English. (far better than any american can speak Spanish for example :p)
comparing Spanish speaking Latin America to Brazil in terms of English speakers is hardly fair, the only places where English is thought on any acceptable level on Brazil is on private schools, and outside of professionals no one takes English learning seriously. this is the main reason for when Brazilians are playing any given game, you can tell.
this is just stats, so hopefully no one will get offended over it. and you can find them anywhere online. a similar thing happens in Russia, the % of English speakers is extremely low. its just a cultural thing.
this is also the reason why on every game you will find strong in-game groups of Brazilians and Russians, but you'll be hard pressed to find Mexicans, Chileans or any other country. not because they don't get along, but because language is not a barrier to them so they easily integrate on any other group.
the point is, if you want the "Spanish speaking market" then fix your game, and market it in a honest way. spending money on a translation is a complete waste of time... in the other hand, a translation to Portuguese would help already established Brazilian communities in game to sell the game to their friends. in a similar way the RUS community has a good way to get new players with their translation. |

To be fair to him, Americans tend to only hear or deal with 2 kinds of latin/south americans, Mexicans who think its our job as an english speaking country to learn spanish toc ater to them wanting to live here, and brazilians who repeatedly correct us that they do NOT in fact speak spanish, but portugese.
And yes im aware alot of Mexicans speak English, but most of them also avoid calling themselves Mexican and instead imply their from the Southwest, because of the stigma attached to being "from Mexico" in alot of the US. |

Thanks
the only problem i have with your statement is that you base it on how many speak it world wide but if the player base aint the same it doesnt matter
fx lets say that 50% of the player base is from denmark what will be the point in translate it to spanish it will make more sense translate it to danish
the way i see the translation should go is by the amount of player from each contry and how many from that contry even want the game be translated to their language |

I respect the opinions of each. I did not contemplate a complete translation into Spanish. Many words would have no meaning. And it would be very laborious translation. The only thing I see is the potential that can give EVE translate it into Spanish. As a translated into French, German, Russian and English, the universal language. But what if I say at level for new players in EVE. I think it would be very important to translate this fantastic game. Thanks again. This is my opinion

Aside from a paycheck... because I very much doubt that they work for free... which is to say the payroll is better spent on devs who are fixing crap rather than translating it.

We should also fire community managers along with the people from finances and HR because they obviously don't fix anything in EVE. The legal department can also be fired for the same reasons.
Throwing more money at the dev team won't fix stuff all that much faster if any. |

Never really understood localization of an international MMO. I mean attracting the new crowd, ok, maybe, yet it starts often with a community separation and does not bridge easily once you settle into your secure environment.
I am against all non-english ingame features out fo principle, it is agains global communication. I found it always detrimental to limit oneself to ones own language in communication, trade and all other social interaction, it does not teach you anything.
The internet or mostly games in general were leading me towrads english, not school. Personal interest in the game, its community, its features are what drags you into the foreign language as no other educator can. - Do not limit yourself. Join the BIG Lottery (see Bio ingame), oldest and only non-profit Lottery in EVE, every second Monday. Wire ISK to BIG GAMES for tickets ! The Spanish speakers, expect answers. It seems right to translate into French. When the Spanish? |
