I plan on using this cloaky proteus fit as the basis for the one I will fly: http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/67953-Proteus-Covert-AAR-brawler-700-dps-OL.html
My question is what my targets would be? I plan on going into WH's to find my targets. I don't know if I should target frigates as I might have trouble tracking them or BS's if the tank will be unbreakable. So is there anyone out there that has done cloaky proteus hunting and can comment on what kind of ship I should target if I am putting out around 600 dps and tanking over 600 dps. The fit claims higher stats but you know how that is.
Also me and my brother are thinking about teaming up so what kind of ship could we tackle together? I am thinking he could use an ECM or neuting boat to incapacitate possibly a blingy BS in a WH. In that case we would be bringing around 1000 dps together and either bringing lots of ECM or neut capability.
Thanks in advance! |

A free divination from Bob's Divining Doomsayer:
Since you clearly are not very well versed in wormhole fleet doctrines, as evidenced by the questions in your post, my advice would be to stay out of wormholes.
I see proteus losses and level 5 subsystem retrains in your future.

I dont know much about WH fleets but I did solo WH anoms from L 1 - 4 so I know a bit about holes themselves. Would it be better to just take it to low sec space instead? If so why? I would prefer not to lose sec standing. Also thank you for giving me no advice and assuming I know nothing. Its always helpful to answer someone with no actual information. |

I can't advise you about K-space, as I have lived in a wormhole my whole eve carrier. A proteus is a very good ship for ganking in a wormhole, but going by yourself will likely just end up with you tackling one target and having 3 more land on grid with you. Teaming up with your brother is a better idea at least.
Despite what Hyperion might make you think with the new frigate only wormholes, we rarely actually fly frigates (and as such are scratching our heads about why we have frigate only wormholes). Covops frigates we do fly, but you aren't going to catch one of those in a proteus.
Battleships .. that one made me laugh. There are a few battleships in w-space, but usually they are flown either as a hole collapsing ship or by a pilot that can't fly a t3 yet. And then they will really only ever be flown for pve.
Wormholes are about cruiser combat. And as soon as someone sees you that you don't know is there, they will start plotting your death. They will likely have more intel than you, have the chain all mapped out and cloaky people watching your every move once the know you are there. We are patient and will sometimes stalk our prey for a long time while waiting for them to make a mistake.
But by all means, please look for people to gank in wormholes. Bob loves the warm glow of explosions and is not particular if it's your ship or mine.

That's some of the best advice I have ever seen.. no, really. There is no better way to learn wormholes than what he intends to do, and if anything, should be encouraged.
As for the Proteus, most of your solo kills will be industrials and low-class site runners, which are a rare sight these days. As long as you properly check your target's history, you can minimize the risk of backup arriving.
Generally the only frigs you will encounter are covops, and you won't be able to catch them. You don't want to pick fair fights, you want to focus on easy kills that present little to no risk of backup. Battleships are an extremely rare sight and 99% of the potential targets you will encounter are cruisers, battlecruisers and some industrials. Your target selection is very small due to this and there's a good chance you'll get bored after many hours of scanning with no viable targets to shoot.
Teaming up with one more person gives you more options but it will still fall in the 'not quite enough' category, however a neuting Legion, Falcon or some of the other more useful recons would be a great help. Hell, even a bomber can be extremely useful as it can land initial tackle while your decloaking delay expires and re-engage for an additional 500-600 DPS.
There are simply too many variables and your best bet is to just go ahead and give it a try, and figure out what works for you. Just be warned that viable targets are rare in wormholes, and most bears will insta-dock the moment they see you in local in LS/NS.

I have reviewed your fit and have a deep desire to help you gank me. Based on your DPS and locking delay I would say iterons are your best bet as targets. Looking at your cap stability I'd recommend scanning the iterons and passing up on any that have a neut/auto cannon/point setup. They will probably take you. |

U on drugs or something?
I've used a similar fit to yours when hunting ratters in w-space. Easy targets are obviously miners, indies and cov ops(if u can catch em). But i've also killed 2 domies with a brutix backup. Took all three of them and my tank was holding fine... However I've also lost my proteus against 2 domies but that qas because i forgot to turn on my reps. Could have helped I guess :) Important advice is that when you actually decloak turn your mwd on and bump the target out of alignment, gives u that xtra second or two to get the scram on them.
Good luck out there! |
