Anybody who PvP's with the primary goal of earning money off of loot and ransoms is a pirate.

Piracy is attacking or threatening anyone who didn't consensually engage in PvP or would cause you a tactical disadvantage.

IMO, killing people with the intent of stealing their stuff is piracy. Killing people that can't defend themselves is piracy (big group vs. little group, Bship vs. frig, Nicocat vs. miner, etc.). Finding people to fight because rats are boring, and picking fair fights is PvP. killing goons is not murder, because they're not people. Killing people in highsec is retarded, period.
I think that covers everything. Aside from highsec ganking, there is no nonconsentual PvP, either. If you're in lowsec, alone or with a group of noobs, you asked for it. ---------------------------- The opinions expressed by Nico do not reflect his corporation. He's just an ass.

assuming that the moon is lawless
Nope. If you kill a rabbit it's not murder, it's just a killing. If you kill a human it's murder because it's against the law - murder is just a legal term. If kill somebody legally, then it's execution, not murder.
If there is no law, it can't be murder.
Same with piracy - if you rob somebody illegally it's piracy, if you do it legally it's privateering (or taxation ) So if there's no law, there's no piracy.
Hmmm. Without law, there's no piracy and no murder? anarchy 4TW

well my definition is, if u attack random peeps in low sec and ransom them for isk, ur a real yarrrian pirate
sadly the art of ransomming seems to be a dying profession cuz these days u only seem to run into snipers or random gategankers who are only interested in higher statistics on their precious killboards Banner will be updated shortly |

IMO attacking/killing anyone who isn't a pirate is piracy.

Article 635 subsection 12 paragraph 5 of the CONCORD destruction of ships code CLEARLY STATES:

End of story, there it is.

Originally by: Kaiu If the area of 0.0 is lawless
There is no 'society'
There are no rules, because no one has claimed the area of space or attempts to defend it...
Then you happen across another random pilot out in space, surveying or taking holiday snaps of 'that pretty moon'
You engage him, before he has the chance to shoot first. Its basic survival. You aren't foaming at the mouthing eyeing up the scans of his ships sexy modules... you are just doing what might be needed to survive.
You destroy his ship, pod him.
No one else is in that sector, region or within a gazillion light years from your location.
Did you commit an act of piracy? Who labeled you as a pirate?
Your own conscience?
If a tree falls and there is no one around to hear it, does it make a sound?
First, I'd like to apologise for calling you American. Unforgiveable, I know
LAW does not equal SOCIETY. You can have a society with no laws. You can have a society with lots of laws.
And you and your victim - that's a society right there. He probably thinks it's piracy. And then there's the game society. Like I said before, you're equating illegal with immoral. You're not breaking the law. You are pirating. Whether you're doing anything 'wrong' - now that's a difficult question.
This isn't a signature either
