Since I am not a child, and I don't need to unwrap something every few days to feel like it's Christmas I'm perfectly happy with the rate of speed CCP has chosen for itself. Age also allows me to conclude CCP probably knows what it's capable of better than I do, and childish expectation isn't a wise thing to foist upon the adults in the room. It generally gets you stood in the corner.

Which would give them the ability to give features and things a good solid look, maybe even better then a dev blog. But we will see I'm pretty hopeful on that score as well, the original EVE TV was great, and informative.
This one will also show case player content, which should be highly entertaining as well. If you like EVE Online and War Thunder content stop by my YouTube channel.-á

I'm happy with it so far. I think every software company has a release rhythm that it settles into. I'm a backend software engineer at my company and we tried a few different timings. We did six months for a while; we did 6 weeks. We even tried weekly releases at one point. What we settled into as a good pace for us were 4 week cycles.
It's going to be different for every company. You have different vacation cycles, you have different planning cycles. It's almost impossible to come up with a one-size-fits-all release cycle.
You have to find a balance between giving the teams enough time to get some bigger things done and little enough time to make a point of eliminating feature creep for a given release.
What I mean by that is that when you get all the project managers together and some of them want something big and stupid, it's easy for them to say, "well, you have 6 whole months!! Surely this is doable."
I don't know anything at all about CCP, but I see it all the time, just in a 4-week cycle. "Come on! You've got a month! Can't you just do this one tiny little thing??"
Well, no. Not without completely re-architecting large parts of our systems, and not without testing a bunch of stuff that we don't have tests for because you jerks never let us put the time into testing stuff, so no. That one simple thing you want is a no go.
From my end, with a 1-month release cycle, we get a ton of stuff done in terms of bigger picture projects. Yes, we do a lot of small stuff, and that makes people really happy. It makes me happy as a dev to be able to cross off a large number of things on my to-do list. It keeps morale high because we feel like we are getting a lot of **** done. But we also feel good because we are making progress on the bigger goals instead of letting them stagnate.
Shorter release cycles give devs more power to force other stakeholders to make real decisions about priorities. This is generally a good thing.
The things that I would imagine are the best byproduct of this change for CCP is that I bet there is a) more focus during planning meetings that leads to b) a heightened sense of purpose that leads to c) overall higher productivity and morale.
But that's just pinning my own experience on to CCP, and it may not be that way at all.
TL;DR: I suspect it is a very good thing. I haven't been disappointed so far. We will probably find this to be really good in the coming years. But it's possible that it doesn't suit the team well. If that's the case, I hope they have the wisdom to experiment with other timings. I honestly feel like I just read fifty shades of dumb. --CCP Falcon |

so far I feel like it can be good for a lot of things, but at the same time it seems that some features could use a little more discussion time before they go live. I mean we just had the last patch and they are just announcing stuff for the next one. http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/coming-in-oceanus-on-september-30/ we have all this coming in like 2 weeks, but it doesn't seem like we have had any meaningful discussion on any of it. For example the interceptor changes aren't even posted yet, where in the old release schedule I feel like we would get at least a months notice.
It feels like some things are getting rushed, but at the same time the smaller things that can get quickly deployed have a nice easy way to do so now. You can trust me, I have a monocole |

I forgot to add that because the cycles are so short now, they--by definition--need less feedback. If something goes seriously wrong, it's at most 6 or so weeks before it gets a rethink. Not 6 months. This is a good thing, and it allows CCP to take bigger and more dangerous risks. This is a good thing. I would rather have them trolling more and shaking things up more and making potentially bigger mistakes than not. I honestly feel like I just read fifty shades of dumb. --CCP Falcon |

I thought a co-worker was doing parkour once, but it turns out he had just had some Taco Bell for lunch and was only trying to get to the toilet.

I like it.
I notice a lot of smaller things getting fixed.
Like new anomolies popping up on your scanner immediately without having to spam the 'show anomolies' button. Or dragging and dropping active targets to sort out which you want up next actually working correctly 100% of the time.
I can only imagine that Seagull sat down and played EVE for the first time once she took the helm and started asking 'Why is this like it is?' or 'Why is this not working correctly?' and people getting tasked to fix it.
You also don't see as much posting on the forums by developers. Say what you want about open communication but you shouldn't be posting on the forums during work as a game developer, that's what devblogs are for.
All in all I was pretty skeptical about Seagull as well as her 6 week 'expansion' plan. I don't think its working out quite as we had all hoped but I think it's working out quite well all things considered.
TLDR: CCP Seagull has suprised me and I'm happy the direction EVE has taken since she's started at CCP. Not today spaghetti. |

It seems that faster update cycles allow for less if any room for feedback changes before they go live. For example the next update is less than 2 weeks away and we still haven't even seen the details for some of the purposed changes. i.e. The Interceptor changes.

Of course, if industry is your thing then that's great, your time has come (after just 10 short years lol).
I'm hoping something comes along which renews my interest in the game. It hasn't happened yet, but we'll see.
What do you think about the new release schedule? Is it like living on a drip feed on life support, or a constant stream of riches?
I don't mind the new schedule at all. As long as they don't out-pace themselves. I do not like the men on this spaceship. They are uncouth and fail to appreciate my better qualities. I have something of value to contribute to this mission if only they would realize it. - Bill Frug

Last expansion was Apocrypha. Everything else was just updates anyway. They should have started fixing more bugs and trying to release less expansions a long long time ago. They were just releasing "expansions" so they could say they released an "expansion" every six months.
When I worked for Intel they opened up a factory JUST to say they produced the most flash memory in the USA that year. As soon as they met their goal they closed the factory. Only real difference was that they have billions to lose and CCP doesn't.

The burner missions so far of all the updates I've played over the 3 years of EVE fun, is BY FAR the BEST thing they've come up with.... do I sound excited, well I am. It's nice to see them go in a challenging direction and really show love to PVE and not just the same level 4 mission with different named ships. |

so far, i like it.
industry will be the first thing that's gonna profit from the new release model.
so far, we had Crius (the bulk of which was developed under the old model).
Things took a while to adjust while the devs were working on invention changes.
The next release after Oceanus will bring those invention changes.
I suspect the devs are now working on Industry 1.1 based on feedback from the industry feedback thread and a lot of really good discussion with the devs working on the feature.
This kind of work would have been simply impossible under the old release model. the feature would have been dropped and left in a playable state after the first point release. Build your empire ! Start today ! Rent Space in Perrigen Falls and Feythabolis Contact me for details :)

When the change of pace was announced for game updates it was said that it would provide more flexibility and rapidity for game changes and I think that the new update schedule is effective in that way.
Now reading previous posts, it seems players mostly see it as a cover up for less major changes. I don't think it's an intended thing but it's true that the last 3 updates focused on details that have to be addressed but aren't very, may I say "glamorous" for invested players.
So I'd say it's a gain for a loss... for now. Hopefully, one of the expansions to come will prove all pessimists wrong with a knock-you-out-of-your-shoes feature... |
