How does one get 60 fps on more then two or three monitors?
When starting up first client all is good at 60 fps, however as soon and I log second client on I get average 30 fps on both clients. And with three clients running on three monitors I'm getting average 20 fps per client. Is there a way to get all clients to run at average 60 fps? I have two brand new 780ti cards running SLI bridge. |

I'll make a few assumptions here: you are using Windows 7 and running the game in Fixed Window display mode with the Present Interval set to Interval One. Is that right?
If so, the issue you are experiencing is related to the way the Windows Aero desktop UI utilizes Vertical Synchronization (Vsync) and how it interacts with fullscreen rendered programs. In Eve Online, the Present Interval setting equates to Vsync in other games. As you have noted the initial client opened will run at 60 FPS as intended by the Aero interface (because that is the frequency that your monitors refresh at), but each subsequent client opened will divide the intended frame-rate by the number of open clients, hence you see 30 FPS for 2, 20 for 1 and so on. This is unfortunately not a problem related to Eve but due to the way the Aero UI is programmed and one that will likely never be changed.
There are several ways to work around this issue:
1. Set the Present Interval to Interval Immediate in the Eve Display menu. This is the easiest way and retains all visual aesthetic across your system. The downside is that your video cards will be working at maximum performance trying to achieve the highest frame-rate possible, probably several hundred. This means they are under full load all the time, using a lot of power, creating a lot of heat and noise which is unnecessary for Eve as it hardly takes any effort from modern high end video cards to render.
2. Disable Windows Aero when you play Eve. This causes Windows to render the UI in a more classical and basic look, you will lose the fancy transparency of window borders and shiny taskbar but with it goes the Vsync settings. Right click desktop > Personalize > Find the Windows 7 Basic theme.
3. Use monitors that have a high native refresh rate. This is the least accessible option and costly. The standard LCD monitors that you are likely using have a refresh rate of 60Hz leading to a Vsync frame-rate of 60 FPS. More upmarket monitors have 120Hz and 144Hz refresh rates that would allow you to leave both options enabled and still maintain a decent frame-rate of 40 and 48 FPS.
I had issues with this years ago with the GTX200 series and earlier but in recent times have found that modern video cards and systems are less susceptible to the problem (possibly driver related). The current arrangement I use consists of 2 x GTX770 in SLi (very similar to your's) but I don't have anywhere near the trouble you describe or I experienced in the past. My frame rates are mostly stable on 60 for each client with the occasional drop to 30, before returning to 60. Try setting up like this:
- Windows 7, Aero on
- Currently on Driver 337.88 (latest version should be fine also)
- Cards connected in SLi
- Maximize 3D performance set in Nvidia control panel under Configure SLi
- All monitors connected to card 1
- 3 separate installs of Eve Online - one for each screen
- Set the display of each client to run in Fixed Window, Display Adapter 1, 2 and 3 respectively, Interval One
This is the way I have configured my system. It has the added benefit of not needing to change display settings as you do when running multiple instances of one install. Each client has it's own settings and files, so if something breaks during a patch or whatever you can copy across settings from another client to restore (good for UI). Be sure to change the launcher settings on at least one client so that it saves downloaded patches otherwise you will have to update each client individually. Just copy the .patch files across from the Eve directory.
Let me know how you get on. |

I think on the last bullet it was supposed to be interval immediate not interval one. |

I am trying to explain to Oscar how to achieve 60 FPS on all clients with Vsync enabled. This is how I do it and for the most part it works. It's an okay trade-off to lower power usage, fan noise and heat output - which will be quite excessive with 2 of those cards running at full load. |

Well Jin thanks again,.. I did all what you mentioned .. However I could not get all clients to run at the same time with this setup. After I start first client all is great with the setups for each monitor, but as soon as i log the second client the first one drops connection. I dont understand why it does this. I have set my system up as below:
Windows 7, Aero on Cards connected in SLi Maximize 3D performance set in Nvidia control panel under Configure SLi All monitors connected to card 1 3 separate installs of Eve Online - one for each screen I have the main client set to save downlaods & launcher for each install to close after launching client.
However the setup did get all clients running at 60 fps when using only 1 launcher for all 3 clients. So thats a plus, tho I would still like to run the 3 separate eve installs so I dont have to change the settings every time I log them in. |

Hmmm, that's an odd issue, I haven't seen anyone experience that before and I know a bunch of people that play like this including myself. I'd hazard a guess that it has something to do with a different aspect, like, firewall, router, ports or maybe some other client setting.
How did you install the other clients?
I'm glad to hear that you at least got the frame-rate sorted out. |
