Thanks for trying it out! thanks for reply i however running tons of other programs in my PC, would it affect the result? or would be recommended running PROBE alone after fresh boot? Other programs may affect the performance, yes, so in general it is best to have nothing else going on.

Circumstantial Evidence wrote:In most scenes, some frames stumbled / stuttered for me, on pans and zooms. Is that sort of event captured in the logs? Yes, we count the number of frames that take a long time to process. It also affects the average frame time.

Have you experienced crashes in the EVE client when running Fraps?

Seventh Pinnacle wrote:Questions: will it work better with, or without three regular EVE clients running? Does it make a distinction between a graphics card already being stressed? What would provide you with the best usable data? For now, just run it alone, with as little going on as possible. We may devise tests later on for gauging multi-client performance but that will come later.

Juliette Asanari wrote:How long is the control tower scene supposed to run? I've just terminated Probe after 20 minutes of tower shooting (maybe you shouldn't have fitted lasers on that leviathan ;-) )
For serious: The scene plays out with multiple pans and angles (with ~1 fps - no surpise there) until it stops with a amarr battleship in the foreground (abaddon or armageddon - I'm bad at this) and the tower being pummeld in the lower left corner. No camera movement, just the ships shooting at the tower. After 20 minutes of disco lightshow, I quit probe, since apparently something is going wrong...
20 minutes is definitely way, way too long.
We will take a look at the results and see what we can do about this.
Thanks for posting!

The long initialization the first time you run EVE Probe is a know issue.
This is due to the application downloading the needed resources for the scenes. You will find that subsequent runs will be much different.
We'll see what we can do about this, but we still wanted to get the EVE Probe out now and get feedback (and stats).

Funless Saisima wrote:So I run EVE using DX9 because awhile back DX11 would crash and I never bothered switching back. I noticed that Probe studders quite a bit and has frame tearing. Neither happens when I play regular EVE. I presume Probe is running DX11.
WIndows 7 64 bit Intel Core i5-2500k 16 GM RAM Radeon HD 6800
Yes, EVE Probe runs DX11 if the machine supports it. It will fall back to DX9 if DX11 is not supported.
It also runs without V-Sync, so you will see tearing you wouldn't otherwise see.

Karbowiak wrote:Will it auto update in the background? Mostly thinking that if it's set as screensaver, it'll run multiple times a day, giving you guys more intel, but will it auto update aswell?
It will not auto-update. For now, at least, we will simply post a new thread here if we have an update.
If you do run it as a screensaver, it will not send the performance results to us. Apart from alerting us of crashes, it is purely for your viewing pleasure.

Kendra Zane wrote:Mine doesn't want to get past the "Preparing renderer" stage in a timely manner. The bar doesn't move and if I alt-f4 the process after 5-10 minutes and restart it, it'll get a little further each time. I've rebooted and there's nothing to suggest why it's slow. Both CPU and GPU usage are minimal/none.
Edit: system specs i7 920 at stock GTX 580 12GB RAM Win 7 pro 64 This would indicate that the download of resources is very slow for some reason. We should be getting error logs from you even if the run was abandoned - we'll be going through those logs and can hopefully figure out what is going wrong.

Akasha Mayan wrote:As pleased as I am that a tool such as this exists to provide a way to measure and directly compare the performance of different cards under Eve, I don't find any of the tests to be a very good facsimile for its real loads. Ok it's a tool designed to allow the run and test of a checklist of effects; but as a benchmark approximating use, your fleet3 'large fleet' is barely a small gang; It does not tell me what I'd need to recommend; whether to render a fleet of 250 drakes, all firing (as an approximate minimum for a one-time regular fleet engagement). Let alone performance once 200 boots (archons - with drones, cyno and bridging in ~1000 subcapital support, firing, doomsdays - all at the same time). How about a re-enactment of B-R5RB to set the scale? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvB2nRGMl2c Our focus for now is squarely on measuring the engine performance with various types of content - we know the really heavy fleet fights perform poorly even on powerful machines but for now we wouldn't necessarily get more useful data from such scenes.
Over time we'll add more scenes, with more specific tests, but also larger ones, throwing everything in there. We'll probably have scenes designed to bring any machine to its knees...

Someone will take it as a challenge and you will end up getting a log where it's going 500 fps and they're running triple SLI with GTX Titans. Hey, I can use that as a reason to request such a setup on my desk. How can I optimize for a triple SLI GTX Titan setup if I don-Št have that on my desk?

Ka'Narlist wrote:Does it need eve installed on the same machine?
Because I installed it on a relativly fresh installed notebook with Windows 7 64Bit and after starting eve probe nothing happens. In the taskmanager I can see the process for a few seconds but then it justs closes again. If I start the screensaver I just get a black screen. It shouldn't need EVE installed, but we may have messed something up. We'll investigate this.

Pete Butcher wrote:Hmm... Visually there seems to be a little stutter in all tests, but the results show 24, 93, 90, 53 and 38 FPS. Are you sure you get those metrics right or are my eyes lying to me? These FPS numbers are averages for the scene as a whole - the stutter comes from irregular frame rate. We'll be working on smoothing these issues out as much as we can.

We've updated EVE Probe, hopefully fixing the crash we've seen in particles as well as addressing an issue with getting logs. Thanks to all who tried the first release - I hope you'll find the time to test this and future updates as well.

I and I dare say most other people would be happy to have it update in the background. That is something we have thought about, just haven't had time to implement that yet.

I tried re-downloading the version linked in the original post in this thread, but I suspect I just downloaded the same version I already had. I'm still getting the same behaviour where the client starts, then quietly closes a few seconds later. I see nothing at all happen; perhaps its because I'm behind a corporate firewall and eveprobe can't download anything it needs? I've started a new thread with the link to the new installer.
