I fitted an expanded cargo hold to my mining ship but was advised can not activate required skill Hull Upgrade Level 1. Searched my skills to train but can not find this skill listed. Where can I get this skill so I can equip the cargo hold and do the mining mission ? |

I believe you get that skillbook as a reward from one of the tutorial missions, I'm not sure though. However, in general you will want to buy them off the market. In the "Show Info" page of an item, there is a "View Market Details" button at the bottom. In the window that pops up you will get a list of all the buy and sell orders for an item, in this case a Hull Upgrades skillbook. You can sort by distance and price. I think Hull upgrades and a lot of other basic skillbooks are available at very low prices in the starter systems, otherwise you'll want to go to your regional market hub.
Hope that helps, good luck and welcome to eve. "I only lose ships when I fly with Azda." - Barry Cuttlefish |

Alternatively, you can open the Market (icon on the left or Alt-R, I believe) and type "Hull Upgrades" into the search box.

In EVE, every station has its own market and items don't get magically moved. Moving items around is a big part of economics in EVE and many players make a living hauling items for others. For now, just make sure to select a skill book in your station.
Pretty much all skill books that you need right now should be sold in your starter station for a low price by NPC sellers. (They are still on the normal market, the only thing special about NPC sellers is the 1 year offer duration.) Basic skill books are sold by NPCs in stations belonging to "teaching" corporations. More advanced skill books are acquired by other means and can most easily be found sold by players in trade hubs. |

Note to self, don't post at 4 am . Thomas explained it far better than I did. "I only lose ships when I fly with Azda." - Barry Cuttlefish |

Sorry Thomas none of that worked for me could not find it or most of what you described did not appear.
I think this game does not explain things well. I have not been able to do one single thing without asking this forum. Great community and always get and answer but ...... Don't think this game is for me too much time trying to work even basic things out ! Will give it another day but not looking good right now.
Thanks for your help guys/gals. |

Skill books are typically sold at schools and academies. There are a few exceptions, but none you need to worry about yet. Schools and academies are all over, but maybe not where you are, however if you are in a starting-system, you can bet there is one there!
Open your skill sheet: there are many ways to do this, but here is a no-brainer method: 1. On the Necomm (the menu bar on the left) double-click on your portrait. This opens your character sheet. 2. On the left at the top of the character sheet, under your portrait, you will see the section SKILLS. Click on it! 3. To the right of that are three tabs. Click on the one labeled SKILLS. 4. Just below the word SKILLS on the tab is a small gear icon. That's the options. Click on the gear! 5. A menu will appear. Click on the button for SHOW ALL SKILLS. 6. Check the boxes for HIGHLIGHT PARTIALLY TRAINED SKILLS and ONLY TOGGLE ONE SKILL GROUP AT A TIME.
Almost there! That was just some one-time setup.
7. At the top of the skills list is a section labelled ARMOR. Click on it to expand it! 8. Under Armor you will see HULL UPGRADES!
The next part might be confusing, but don't give-up yet!
9. If the skill is dark greyed-out and there is a red X next to the skill, you can't inject the skill-book yet, as you are missing a prerequisite. [Not possible in this case.] 10. If the skill is dark greyed-out and there is a green check-mark next to the skill, you can inject the skill-book! 11. If there is a 5-level gauge next to the skill, it is injected and ready to be queue for training!
Okay, now for the hard part: How to find a skill on the market.
12. Right-click on a skill and select VIEW MARKET DETAILS. 13. At the top-left of the market window, select REGION for the RANGE FILTER. 14. Optionally un-check SHOW ONLY AVAILABLE.
You should see some books available on the market.
15. In the top SELLERS section, click on the top column header PRICE until the lowest price is at the top. 16. In the bottom BUYERS section, click on the top column header PRICE until the highest price is at the top. 17. You can right-click in the SELLERS area and select BUY THIS ITEM. Make sure it isn't to far away, and safe to travel to (you can check by right-clicking the order and selecting LOCATION -> SET DESTINATION.
Here is a third-party listing of the market. It tends to be outdated, but may help give you an idea where to look: https://eve-central.com/home/quicklook.html?typeid=3394
Still confused? Tell me where you got lost, and I'll try to get you back on course! |

Sorry, but opening up the market and searching for Hull Upgrades WILL list the skillbook.
Then it's just finding that order that is in yoru station (you are doign the tutorials so are in the tutorial station which also seed skillbooks) double click and accept the sell order to get a skillbook.
Then open your hangar inventory, right click and inject it. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

cargohold expanders generally aren't a great idea on mining ships anymore thanks to the specialized ore bay that is present on most mining ships.
also my first week or so playing eve I spent a lot of my time just reading stuff, just because something says something doesn't make it true doesn't make it false either. there are usually multiple valid paths. You can trust me, I have a monocole |
