I've been working on this since the new overview changes.
Anyone who wants a new overview can download the packaged overview pack. The real power comes when you use this as a base for customizing or making your own overview .
Full details on the Project Site. Be sure to check out the FAQ.
Enjoy.

The EVE Online Overview Generator facilitates creating and maintaining overview packs.
Essentially, you define a common set of LEGO bricks and build your overviews with them.
First, create overviews out of game by editing a set of YAML files. Then, generate importable overview files by running the included Ruby script.
Rather than a single YAML file per overview, the various overview settings are split into many files which can be reused to create custom overviews based on a set of common groups, presets, settings, etc. The modular design makes updating, sharing, and customizing simple.

Nice idea. You might want to create something like this: http://tools.dathost.net/#alpha=200/color=5/color_b=50/color_r=50/color_g=250/dot=0/gap=0/size=5/style=4/usealpha=1/thickness=0.5/outline=0/outline_draw=0 (just to get the idea) EVE Online Fraud Prevention - http://eve-fraud.blogspot.com |

There are already (were?) some web based overview makers like that. I thought about it, but ultimately it's not the goal of this project.
From the FAQ:
Quote: Where is the graphical interface?
My goal with this project is to track my overview in version control in a DRY format while keeping everything in human readable text files. I have no plans to write a web interface or a graphical program.

Whatever happened to .zip files? I guess that's not "techy" enough for the cool kids. Anyone with any sense has already left town. |

The old web overview generators only did the tabs and ship tags, because you couldn't use symbols or color codes without importing from xml. Now that those can be just pasted in they wouldn't be very useful.
Your project is cool and all but anything tied to CLI software that for normal people "is beyond the scope of this documentation" is a pretty big letdown. It's human readable compared to exported eve xml overviews, but that's not saying much. |

I develop on Linux and tar is pretty much the norm for distribution. I know windows can open compressed archives natively now, but maybe not tar files. I'll update it to use the zip format. |

Not so long ago I released my own overview generator with UI, blinking, preview similar to what you could see in game. Few weeks later they changed format to yaml and I said frakk you CCP, ain't gonna do work for you anymore.
Hopefully your project will be full success. Somebody has to make Eve better, if not devs than bunch of slaves paying for this privilege. Invalid signature format |

Lots of improvements on the overview pack since the first release: https://io.evansosenko.com/eve-overview/#changelog
Even more features planned for version 1.0.0: https://github.com/razor-x/eve-overview/issues?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Aissue+milestone%3Av1.0.0 |

Pretty much this ^^ The web based overview generators were only really useful to aid with injecting html. This however came at a price as once you had imported the xml containing color tags for your overview you could no longer export your global settings to edit/update (which is why no upload/parse existing overview was implemented). Meaning if you wanted to make a change, you basically had to reimplement.
With the greater use of packs and the ability to share overviews in game there is probably much less demand for generators now.
Even so, there will probably stil be a use for them but just more edge case, possibly just being easier generation of profiles.
the entire enemy support fleet is dead except for one interdictor a titan could easily finish off with drones

Version 0.5.0 now updated for Rhea.
You can now join the in-game channel 'Overview Generator' for one-click overview links, however each link can only include five presets, so I recommend downloading and importing the full pack. |
