Hi,
IÆm trying to work out derived faction standing changes as a result of completed storyline missions. Prior to RMR you could easily work out what the derived standing changes would be based upon the inter-faction standings, but this simple approach no longer applies. It looks like the derived changes may be calculated based on a combination of various inter-faction standings, an unpublished set of values, or some other crazy method that takes skills, standings and the phase of the moon into account.
It may be possible that the calculations will be consistent based on the primary faction. If so, while maybe not deriving the actual calculation, it should be possible to chart the changes if there are enough examples.
To help sort out this mess IÆm asking that the next time you complete a storyline missions, can you please post all your standing changes to this thread? The details needed would be:
* Storyline Mission Level (1, 2, 3 or 4) * Storyline Mission Faction (Caldari, Gallente, Serpentis, etc.)
and the stated standing changes for each of the following factions:
* Amarr Empire * Ammatar Mandate * Angel Cartel * Caldari State * CONCORD Assembly * Gallente Federation * Guristas Pirates * Jove Empire * Khanid Kingdon * Minmatar Republic * Mordu's Legion Command * ORE * Sansha's Nation * Serpentis * The Blood Raider Covenant * The InterBus * The Servant Sisters of EVE * The Society * The Syndicate * Thukker Tribe
Note: To get the standing changes, open up your character sheet and go to the æStandingsÆ page. For each of the factions listed in the æLiked ByÆ and æDisliked ByÆ tabs, right-click on the faction and select æShow TransactionsÆ.
I will only need the base data taken from the æshow transactionsÆ window. You donÆt need to do any maths or anything like that -- IÆll collate everything together and once I have a few sets of data in, I will post the details and any findings.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers, Arrs.

hey hey
Are u insane !
I hope this works but the data collection would need to be alot more detailed that that. Agent quality, skills, location of mission, rats killed. existing standing. . . and many more i cant think of. ive had missions give different gains and losses and one even give a negative gain to the faction that gave the mission. there is way to many variable that Derived mosification comes from. the only absolute ive found from derived modification is that even if you have a trnsaction listed you only gain as much as the faction like each other. ie gallente to minnie +8 there was a dev/gm response that confirmed this too.
theres alot of variables to consider. afaik each mission doesnt have a static change. and even if it did then every char has some kind of variable that adjust this in some way. ie social, connections etc.
Maybe the information could be found in the data export ? Either way u have a huge taks to undertake . . GL and will chuck u some iskies after DT.

This would be true if he's trying to calculate the actual modification by derived standings. However he's made the logical assumption that there is a ratio involved in the derived standings modifications (which will ignore all the problems with skills like Social and Negociation) and that they are consistent between the involved groups.
For example, presume the Amarr:Ammatar ratio is 1:2. If you gained 0.5 standing with the Amarr, you'd get +1 with the Ammatar and vice versa (0.5 standing with the Ammatar would get you a +0.25 with the Ammar).
A major problem would be inconsistent ratios - eg. Ammar to Ammatar was 1:2, but Ammatar to Amarr was 3:1.
To Arrs: There's also the problem that Mikal pointed out of the derived standing changes being capped to the inter-faction relationship level and whether this would be reflected in the Show Transactions information.
Would you be interested in any faction standing modification or only those from storyline missions? Although they're generally negative changes, destroying faction ships in missions would give you data a lot faster about derived modifications.

Yup, this is exactly what I'm thinking. My assumption is that the current derived standing are calculated in the same way as prior to RMR, but that the values used are different. Basically, the changes are based upon the following formula:
Derived Standing Change = Base Standing * ( Unpublished Inter-Faction Standing / 10 )
By using this formula against the standing changes I posted above, I get the following set of 'inter-faction standings' towards the Gallente Federation:
Amarr Empire: -2 Ammatar Mandate: -3.75 Angel Cartel: -8.75 Caldari State: -5 CONCORD Assembly: N/A Gallente Federation: 10 Guristas Pirates: N/A Jove Empire: -0.25 Khanid Kingdon: -0.25 Minmatar Republic: 8 Mordu's Legion Command: -5 ORE: 8.333333333 Sansha's Nation: N/A Serpentis: -11.25 The Blood Raider Covenant: N/A The InterBus: 5 The Servant Sisters of EVE: 13.33333333 The Society: 2.5 The Syndicate: -7.5 Thukker Tribe: -3.333333333
Now, to me these figure look promising as the 'right' inter-faction standings for derived gains. I suspect that these values are actually calculated based on some sort of mix of all inter related standings, but if they are consistent, then just knowing the ration will be useful. However, it may be possible that when more data is posted that there are conflicting sets of results, but if that is the case at least we'll know that this is not the right approach.
Originally by: Marine HK4861 There's also the problem that Mikal pointed out of the derived standing changes being capped to the inter-faction relationship level and whether this would be reflected in the Show Transactions information.
There is an outstanding bug where if you are maxed on you derived standings any derived changes are still displayed in the 'show transactions' window.
Quote: Derived standing transactions show that a faction standing has been modified even though it as reached max and is not modified.
So until this is fixed we can still collect the details.
Originally by: Marine HK4861 Would you be interested in any faction standing modification or only those from storyline missions? Although they're generally negative changes, destroying faction ships in missions would give you data a lot faster about derived modifications.
That is a good point, but at the moment I'm only interested in trying to work out the derived faction standing changes as a result of storyline missions. As these give changes to all factions it should allow a clearer picture to be put togetherà but we'll seeà

Sorry for the double post, but I've found the following derived standing changes in a document by JP Beauregard:
Amarr Empire Missions:
Amarr Empire: 10 Ammatar Mandate: 11.25 Angel Cartel: N/A Caldari State: 7 CONCORD Assembly: N/A Gallente Federation: -2 Guristas Pirates: -8.75 Jove Empire: -0.5 Khanid Kingdom: 7.5 Minmatar Republic: -5 Mordu's Legion Command: 8.3333 ORE: -5 Sansha's Nation: -8.75 Serpentis: N/A The Blood Raider Covenant: -13.3333 The InterBus: 0.41666 The Servant Sisters of EVE: -0.41666 The Society: -0.41666 The Syndicate: N/A Thukker Tribe: -6.6666
Caldari State Missions
Amarr Empire: 5 Ammatar Mandate: 7.5 Angel Cartel: N/A Caldari State: 10 CONCORD Assembly: N/A Gallente Federation: -5 Guristas Pirates: N/A Jove Empire: 7.15 Khanid Kingdom: 13.3333 Minmatar Republic: -2 Mordu's Legion Command: 15 ORE: -3.3333 Sansha's Nation: -8.75 Serpentis: N/A The Blood Raider Covenant: -11.6666 The InterBus: 2.5 The Servant Sisters of EVE: -0.41666 The Society: 1.6666 The Syndicate: N/A Thukker Tribe: -5
Thukker Tribe Missions:
Amarr Empire: -3 Ammatar Mandate: -5.25 Angel Cartel: 5.25 Caldari State: -1.2 CONCORD Assembly: N/A Gallente Federation: -0.6 Guristas Pirates: -1.5 Jove Empire: 0.15 Khanid Kingdom: -2.25 Minmatar Republic: -1.2 Mordu's Legion Command: -1 ORE: -1 Sansha's Nation: -2.25 Serpentis: 2.25 The Blood Raider Covenant: -2 The InterBus: -0.25 The Servant Sisters of EVE: -2 The Society: -0.5 The Syndicate: 3 Thukker Tribe: 10
JP also has figures Gallente Federation missions. Promisingly, JP's figures match my own, so there may be some consistency here.
I'll put these into a table later tonight and post a link.
Cheers, Arrs.

Storyline Mission Level: 3 Caldari
Mordu: + 2.7638 caldari: + 1.8425 SSOE: - 0.0768 Society: + 0.3071 interbus: + 0.4606 Khanid: + 1.3819 Jove: + 0.3224 Minmatar: - 0.3685 Ammatar: + 1.3819 Ore: - 0.6142 Amarr: + 0.9213 Syndicate: 0 Guristas: 0 Blood raider: -2.1496 Sansha: -1.6122 Angel: 0 Thukker: -0.9213 Serpentis: 0 Gallente: -0.9213
I've just realised something. Ranks in Social will completely screw this relationship tree up as the results will be skewed towards the bonuses, leaving you unable to compare the penalties with the bonuses.
Removing the effects of my Social skill would give the following results for all the positive gains: Mordu: 2.3032 caldari: 1.5354 Society: 0.2559 Interbus: 0.3838 Khanid: 1.1516 Jove: 0.2687 Ammatar: 1.1516 Amarr: 0.7678

Thanks for the input! Very much appreciated.
I've run your base figures through the following simple calculation:
Inter-faction standing = ( stated change / primary faction change ) * 10
where the primary faction change value is the standing change for Caldari and came up with the following results:
Amarr Empire: 5.00 (5) Ammatar Mandate: 7.50 (7.5) Angel Cartel: 0.00 (N/A) Caldari State: 10.00 (10) CONCORD Assembly: 0.00 (N/A) Gallente Federation: -5.00 (-5) Guristas Pirates: 0.00 (N/A) Jove Empire: 1.75 (7.15) Khanid Kingdom: 7.50 (13.3333) Minmatar Republic: -2.00 (-2) Mordu's Legion Command: 15.00 (15) ORE: -3.33 (-3.3333) Sansha's Nation: -8.75 (-8.75) Serpentis: 0.00 (N/A) The Blood Raider Covenant: -11.67 (-11.6666) The InterBus: 2.50 (2.5) The Servant Sisters of EVE: -0.42 (-0.41666) The Society: 1.67 (1.6666) The Syndicate: 0.00 (N/A) Thukker Tribe: -5.00 (-5)
The figures in brackets are the values from JP's data above. As you can see they all almost match up, the only difference is the Jove Empire / Khanid Kingdom values. As there have been several static data patches since JP's data collection, I'm not too concerned about this at this time. It is also possible that there could have been some 'finger trouble' in JP's data as for Jove 7.15 is very similar character wise to 1.75 and for Khanid 7.50 is 3 / 4 * 10, while 13.3333 is 4 / 3 * 10.
Originally by: Marine HK4861 I've just realised something. Ranks in Social will completely screw this relationship tree up as the results will be skewed towards the bonuses, leaving you unable to compare the penalties with the bonuses.
As can be seen by the results above, I don't think this matters. I'm pretty sure that the social skill only affect the primary faction standing gain and the rest of the gains and losses will be based on that one value. As such, the changes should be consistent. I think this is pretty much demonstrated by the above figures.
I'll run some more missions myself and post more details as and when I have them. In the meantime, if you can, please post any storyline mission standing changes and we can hopefully chart this accurately.
Cheers, Arrs.

I had a whole pile of more recent data beyond this but must've burnt that stuff in a drunken rage. Not that any of it would have done you any good. Derived changes: Amarr Empire: -1.68% (-2) Ammatar Mandate: -3.15% (-3.75) Angel Cartel: -7.35% (-8.75) Caldari State: -4.2 (-5) Interbus: +4.2 (5) Jovian Empire: -0.21 (-0.25) Khanid Kingdom: -2.1 (-2.5) Minmatar Republic: +6.72 (8) Mordu's Legion: -4.2 (-5) ORE: +7.00 (8.33) Serpentis: -9.45 (-11.25) Sisters of Eve: +11.2 (13.33) Society of Conscious Thought: +2.1 (2.5) Syndicate: -6.3 (-7.5) Thukker Tribe: -2.8 (-3.33)
ps. other factions were not affected.
Different level, different character, different type of storyline agent (COSMOS vs. station), different type of mission (courier vs. kill) .... identical results.
Note: All the above modifications are listed in "show transactions" ... however, not all of them appear to have actually taken effect. This may be related to claims by other posters, that once your standing with a faction is higher than that faction's standing with the one you're working for (or lower, if they dislike each other), derived changes no longer occur.
eg: Gallente standing now +9.39 Minmatar Republic is +8 to Gallente Minmatar standing no longer altered by Gallente storyline missions.
This *appears* to be what's happening to me, but I haven't gone into it thoroughly. ________________________________________________

Sounds like a sensible hypothesis. Thing is, why would you complicate the standing system further by introducing such a check against a standing cap (w/o any documentation)? Just to have another chance to mess up? |

I'm pretty sure that this is what is happening. Your dervived standing changes are limited by the other Faction's view of the primary Faction (i.e. the Faction you completed the storyline mission for). There is a documented outstanding bug where if you are maxed on you derived standings any derived changes are still displayed in the 'show transactions' window:
Quote: Derived standing transactions show that a faction standing has been modified even though it as reached max and is not modified.

And yet I can falsify that hypothesis.
My faction standing with the Jovian mutants went from 5.99 (rounded up) to 6.03 (rounded down) on a derived standing change of 1.265% on July 30 as a result of an important mission for SEVE/SOE.
SOE to JE and vice versa is 2.

Hmm... The limit works for my Gallente <-> all other factions standings, so it could be that the SOE are bugged... Especially as I've found a formula that works for all the data above except for some SOE derived changes which are consistently out by a factor of 10.
I'm going to do a little more investigation, but I will post the formula and findings later tonight.

Yup, just checked them. They are also consistent with the predicted results from my formula, as are Marine HK4861's Caldari figures and JP's Armarr and Thukker Tribe values.
I'm just writing a post describing the formula are creating a web page to show the derived standing modifiers. I should be finished in the next 30 mins or so -- I'll be posting in a new clean thread so watch this space...

First, many thanks to everyone who replied and provided information.
OK, so here are the formulas to work out the standing impact of a storyline mission on friendly and hostile Factions in RMR:
Derived Standing Change = Primary Faction Standing Change * ( Inter-Faction Standing Modifier / 10 )
Inter-Faction Standing Modifier = Secondary FactionÆs standing view of Primary Faction * ( Primary Faction Size / Secondary Faction Size )
where 'Primary Faction' is the Faction you completed the mission for and 'Secondary Faction' is the Faction you wish to work out the standing change against.
The Faction standing information can be found in-game by looking at the 'likes' and 'dislikes' tabs in the FactionÆs details window. The Faction size information was taken from the RMR Data Extract (I found it in the dbo_chrFactions.csv file). For convenience, here it is:
Faction Name : Size Factor Amarr Empire : 5 Ammatar Mandate : 4 Angel Cartel : 4 Caldari State : 5 CONCORD Assembly : 5 Gallente Federation : 5 Guristas Pirates : 4 Jove Empire : 5 Khanid Kingdom : 4 Minmatar Republic : 5 Mordu's Legion Command : 3 ORE : 3 Sansha's Nation : 4 Serpentis : 4 The Blood Raider Covenant : 3 The InterBus : 3 The Servant Sisters of EVE : 3 The Society : 3 The Syndicate : 4 Thukker Tribe : 3
IÆve uploaded a couple of charts showing the in-game Faction standings and the full list of the derived Inter-Faction Standing Modifiers to http://www.newedenlibrary.net/tmp/standings.html.
Example
You complete a Gallente storyline mission which gives a 8% standing gain to the Gallente Federation. To calculate your standing changes to Minmatar Republic, SOE and Ammatar Mandate use the following:
Minmatar Standing Change:
Minmatar view of Gallente Federation: 8 Minmatar size: 5 Gallente Federation size: 5
Standing Modifier = 8 * ( 5 / 5 ) = 8 Standing Change = 8 * ( 8 / 10 ) = 6.4%
SOE Standing Change:
SOE view of Gallente Federation: 8 SOE size: 3 Gallente Federation size: 5
Standing Modifier = 8 * ( 5 / 3 ) = 13.3333 Standing Change = 8 * ( 13.3333 / 10 ) = 10.6666%
Ammatar Mandate Standing Change:
Ammatar Mandate view of Gallente Federation: -3 Ammatar Mandate size: 4 Gallente Federation size: 5
Standing Modifier = -3 * ( 5 / 4 ) = -3.75 Standing Change = 8 * (-3.75 / 10 ) = -3%

Excellent work: and glad I could help. There still remains the problem of working out exactly when a derived standing is, and is not, applied; the working hypothesis is the one I detailed above, until we find out any better? ________________________________________________

I think you are right on this one and others have stated this before aswell. A derived standing will never get higher (or lower?) then the view of the primary faction to that faction.
Great work on the formula Arrs! now we just need a nice web-application that works ingame so we can see the derived stats all in one go instead of looking them up seperately :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Great stuff. So it just took someone less mathematically challenged than me to dig this up. And someone who had the patience to filter through the data export
If you have no objection, I'd like to copy yout findings into my Excel sheet and turn that thing into a printable pdf - with proper credit of course.
Maybe Grismar can find a way to add this info to his wiki complete with a calculator?

Indeed. I agree that the general rule seems to be as discussed above, but JP's example hints that there may be something else involved... or it is jusr broken.
