Hi gents,
I read some weeks ago that if you check the market history for a given item, the average column is not the average of the transactions that happened, as one would expect, but the average of the sells and buys orders... Meaning that if someone want to buy for 0.01 ISK an item, the average value is totally off balance and useless.
Now I would like to have imagined this piece of infos, because if that's the truth, the average data is of no use. Can someone infirm or confirm that?
Thanks, |

The market history is based on actual, completed transactions. As you say, to do otherwise would be useless.
Quickly and easily confirmed by comparing open orders to the table version of the market history (which gives a high and low, and may even knock out some outliers, since I once sold a BS for 4b and it never showed up on the market data) "It's easy to speak for the silent majority. He was most likely referring to the warning you get when you enter a price that is a certain threshold above or below the regional average. That is based off of the average of all open market orders, which is why you see people putting up large orders for 0.01 isk, in order to raise or suppress the warning. |

Market history is based on actual transactions.
Regional average is based on all current buy and sell orders.
Because of this, don't ever trust regional average. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

I wish I could always suppress the warning, and as such if market tricksters do it for me I'm grateful. The comparison with the regional average is vaguely useful to discourage order-of-magnitude errors, but the dialogue box is just maddening. |

Sorry I'm still confused.
Please look at the Astero or Stratios at Jita. The Price History indicates an average value for the past transactions above any of the offering from actual sellers.
How can it be? I can understand a one-day discrepancy, with large transactions completed but not this scenario. |

How can it be? I can understand a one-day discrepancy, with large transactions completed but not this scenario. The high, low, and average are calculated based on completed orders. If the sell orders are lower than the average it is usually because the item has been traded often and competitively, resulting in a drop in price as people outbid each other. This is especially common in Jita as there are many station traders who earn their isk by setting low buy orders and high sell orders on the same item. The next day you'll see the average drop down to the new price, but keep in mind that the end values are daily and so might not reflect drastic price swings due to active trading. |

You are looking at "The Forge" regional history, not only Jita.
Also, if can be that in the past there was some heavy buying and selling (say just before a big fleet fight an alliance stocks on ships and modules) that isn't there anymore. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy
