Hi, I'm currently trying to get into incursions as my first non-solo experience (explorations/missions are my main buisness). I spent days reading guides on tactics, fittings, organization ect so I should a have at least a basic understanding of the topic. I can fly a Basilisk with a "classic/basic" fit like this (with Logi 4):
Quote:[Basilisk, Incursions] Damage Control II Beta Reactor Control: Reaction Control I
EM Ward Field II Adaptive Invulnerability Field II Adaptive Invulnerability Field II 10MN Afterburner II Large Shield Extender II
Large Remote Shield Booster II Large Remote Shield Booster II Large Remote Shield Booster II Large Remote Shield Booster II Large 'Regard' Remote Capacitor Transmitter Large 'Regard' Remote Capacitor Transmitter
Medium Ancillary Current Router I Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Light Shield Maintenance Bot I x5 Hobgoblin II x5
In my humble opinion this should be a solid base. I thought I would start out with a rather affordable ship and a reasonable skill training time in High-Sec VGs. But as I browsed through the channels (using "Incursion Public" as an index) for hours this seems to be almost impossible for a newbie. I'm especially confused by the proposed fittings for each fleet. Everyone want's expensive equipment and the different fittings would maybe require a dozen Basilisks, probably half a dozen jump clones, tons of ISK and time for Logi 5 of course. This is a serious entry barrier I don't want to take right now, at least not before I tried incursions for some time. Did I miss some offerings/opportunities for beginners (would be glad to hear from them) or do I just waste time waiting until I bought/trained the real "hot stuff"? |

Logi 5 is fairly short skill and it should open up some fleets for you Im on phone so it is pain for me to link thread in this very subforum that have extensive channel list. http://i.imgur.com/1N37t.jpg

Grab logi 5, seriously.
Also take a look at WarpToMe incursions. I've flown with them a few times, they're a good group of guys willing to help a complete newbie out.
They have a site with the fits they want and a public channel you can ask questions in while traveling to site/waiting for fleet |

WarpToMe looks good indeed but they do only HQ sites. I think these are too difficult/risky for me and the fleet right now. |

If you inform the FC about your situation, that you are new to incursions in general, he will take that into account and the other logi will help you out. Worst case (without a outright no), they will take a extra logi into the fleet to compensate.

WTM nearly always tries to put logi 4 pilots on grid to, as long as you have at least 1 Basi that can refit to more cap transfers it should be fine.
If you have amarr/gallente cruiser 4 and some armor skills you can also give IIC pub or OIC a try, since we also can use T1 Logistic Cruisers with Cruiser 4 in the fleet from the new player program, if the Inc is not to far away from amarr I can also provide a fully fitted Exequror or Augoror so you don't have to buy a separate hull for that. There is also a Mailing list called "OIC - T1LCP" if you want to double check if you can use all modules and got all required skills for the ship.
Nearly every shield VG channel will prefer the Scimitar, since you don't really need the cap transfers for VG. If you meet the requirements in skills for tank and your ship(like your logi 4) it shouldn't have a problem, the FC or LC will give you a quick run-down what to do and I seen lots of people that flown her first site in Incs as HQ with WTM without to much problems. |

WTM also likes to run incursion logi "schools" from time to time. And I know they like to run a mixture of Basilisks and Scimitars in their logi squadrons, because Basis can also serve as cap boosters for the DPS squadrons.
Having done both vanguards and HQ sites, my impression is that the HQ sites aren't massively more risky than vanguards, although I'll admit that some HQ sites can get rather ... interesting if you draw full aggro. As a side note, that classic/standard basi is first off, designed as an HQ fit. Secondly, with the exception of a couple channels that I cannot recommend for reasons, basilisks are almost entirely deprecated in VGs. Thirdly, because of the incredibly contested nature of VGs compared to HQs, being in anything sub optimal, with sub-optimal skills is going to be harder than getting into several kinds of other fleet. fourth, because with logi 4 you need 2 incomming cap xfers, you need either a DPS with 2 xfers who is dedicated to feeding you, and you them back, or another basi, which means that you won't fit into alot of existing fleet comps. That crazy bag FC with the silly things on the hull that shouldn't but just did. |

Thanks for all the input! I will try to get into HQs or Training with WTM next week and I will probably start training Logi 5 soon. I have three remaining questions:
- How to use the shield drones? They seem to be quite popular to fill up the drone bay but I don't really know why. Maybe as a backup if cap chain fails, but the repair amount is quite low and drones take some seconds to get to the target (not good against high alpha/dps Sanshas I guess).
- Why do I need an afterburner? I guess as speed tank or to keep up with my anchor. Could it be a refit candidate for more tank or a remote sensor booster?
- Do I generally need to reconfigure my fit above for HQs?

- Depends on the group, many don't bother with shield bots but rather use dps or armour ones when necessary.
- AB is for getting between some gates in hq sites quicker and generally helps with a bit of speed tank.
- Varies from group to group, most likely okay for wtm as is.

2. Afterburner give you few seconds to broadcast when focused (before taking full damage) in TCRC site after 4+ webs will lower your speed to 50-60m/s and your signature will be increased to 250-300m by multiple target painters.
Note: upon landing in TCRC start AB and hit full speed - and only after that start establishing cap chain, repair others, orbit anchor. New logis often forget to start moving and insta-pop. It's almost impossible to save immobile Basilisk in TCRC (scimis pop even before other logis can start reppers on them). This is pretty much the most important thing to learn for a HQ logi pilot. |

Its possible to save immobile scimis with AB+ DCU tank if all 3 of the other minimum logi is on the ball, has 1+ reps still free and catch the BC with <1s lag. Needless to say, this is unlikely with only 3 other logi yes, 3 others. 4 is the hard limit to have sufficient reps on grid to out-rep the DPS in A type + DCU +t1 em fits, and so is the number I use for "can it be caught" math. 1. They are used like damage drones, but on friendly targets and act like a weaker extra shield transporter on them. They can also be used to keep them on another Logistic all the time, what is often done between Scimitars to prevent problems when they take damage while the other logistic is jammed and because they have a very low buffer, what gives you more time since there is already RR on them. I for myself mostly use them in to have more RR/s in case the other Logistics are later, be more flexible in case of split agro to shuffle them around and see if it the target holds up or goes down(what can be a bit tricky to tell in bigger sites, since it is hard to tell how much DPS is on a target and how many Logis have how many reps on it). With our Oneiroses it is mostly done to max out HP/s in case of Logistic disconnects and if you do solo Logistic(what different to 11+1 setups means very high damage on our ships since it is most of the time 3+1 or something). They really make a big difference if you go all the way, getting T2 logistic drones and help to reduce the amount of overheating that is needed in high dps situations.
2. The AB is used to travel to the next gate or to a anchor(to keep the fleet together and prevent NPCs burning off to distant ships of the fleet) in a logistic in HQ. It can help with the damage migration depending on how many webs, painters and neuts are on you, but in the worst case scenario(3+ webs on you, multiple painters) it will not make a massive difference. In my experience as LC what will kill you are logi that are semi afk, you can easy tell this when a logi still got the reps on a target 30s after a agro switch, doesn't lock up other logis for minutes after warp in or when targets magically go up in seconds when you "check check" the FC and request for more RR on target X as LC.
3. That depends on the channel you want to fly in nearly every channel has slightly different fittings and you need to look at her websites, mailing lists or ask in the channel how they want the Basilisk fitted.
