I played a trial account for a couple days, liked what I saw and signed up.
Having been a paying member now for 3 days, I've lost 8 mission bonuses and two ships due to server crashes.
I can say this isn't making a very good impression. Perhaps it's not too late to tell my credit card company to deny the charges.

Don't feed the trolls yeah I know...
It's not normally like this, this past week or so has been really weird, I think they changed to a cheaper brand of bedding for the hamsters and they got a rash or something.

The servers have been wierd for the last week. I know its hard to believe, since this is all you have seen, but they are ushally very good, and pretty stable. Eve has its down times, but its just like every other game in that regard. And IMO they do a better job of keeping the system up then most other guys.

EVE is allways like this, its impossible to play for over 20 seconds. I recommend you go climb a tree instead. And preferably fall out of it.

Valar mentioned on page 5 of today's server crash thread that he thinks he found the cause of the crashes over the past few days (a misconfiguration of MSSQL). Now that that's been fixed we should hopefully be crash free. --------------------------------------------

i haven't EVER lost a single mission or ship to server crash, somehow i think you must be doing something wrong. Perhaps you settled in one of those unstable systems that people keeps whining about shutting down at a regular basis this week?

When I first joined there was a severe run of server drops, and nearly 18 months later I am still around. Most of the time it is fine. Within a week or two you will have forgotten all about it and the 2 ships will seem insignificant as the isk starts rolling in. _______

Sara,
I've been playing since just before RMR, the servers the last couple weeks have been wacky but normally it is pretty good. The servers weere a bit wacky after RMR and Bloodline deployments too.
If you lost a ship because the server crashed, you can file a petition and in some cases they will return a like ship. However the wait line I think right now on petitions is 3 to 5 weeks, which is kinda bad. I wouldn't file a petition unless it was an expensive ship.

I have been playing over two years and have not lost more than 1 or 2 ships to lag and server crashes.

Rest asured, these hickups are highly unusual for TQ.

*sigh* and here I thought this was a mature community.
Anyway, to the others that responded contstructively, I'm merely frustrated because I just left World of Warcraft after playing since release because of the server instability.
I had heard great things about this game and for the first couple days it was everything I expected... then all of a sudden, the game will either lock up when I undock or the server will crash.
Perhaps I'm in the wrong system (one of the buggy ones) but being new, I haven't quite learned how to navigate around systems yet.
I plan on giving it some time but felt the devs. should hear my discontent. Forums were put in place for things like this. If nobody complained, nothing would get fixed.

Sad you just arrive when server got some problem i guess hampster got some holidays ;)
For the ship you just have to petition. Waiting time are longer but you got reimbursment For the time bonus i know that for a new member Isk are very important for skill and stuff :)
Stay a little more, i'm sure the server will be fixed and you find the game very good :)

In my experience EvE is generally rock solid, and mostly unplagued by lag. I don't engage in 100 vs. 100 fleet battles though, so YMMV.
Having said that...
Some people just seem to be unlucky. It's difficult to say why, although it's probably PC or network problems. I've seen people have frequent disconnects, crashes to desktop, blue screens. I like to hope this is rare.
Every now and then things go a bit pear-shaped for a few days. The last week has been a good example of that. It usually sorts itself out quickly and is rare.
After patches, it's chaos for a few days. Fire rains from the skies, cows are born with two heads, and the help channels and forums fill with angry whining.
Apart from that, it's fine.

And of course do try to avoid staying too long in a system that has more than 200-300 people in local. I tend to lags alot like Fraggle-rock in one of the stations. ---------

If you're experiencing more crashes than other people, I can strongly recommend that you replace your router with something other than a Linksys.
I literally haven't crashed to desktop in a year. Maybe once or twice, but for other reasons. Before, with my old linksys router, I couldn't stay connected for over 20 minutes.

There's always one, not much we can do about it.
About the server, yes it must be quite annoying to start your trial in a bad time like this but rest assured it works fine most (95%+) of the time. It's worth it, don't give up because of some bad days.

There's always one or two. Where wow has a lot of younger players on the forums, Eve has a fair few who just have no concept of the word "polite". (as a few people have said, "even the forums are PVP")
the last week has been pretty bad for server stability - I've had my first crashes to desktop in months over the last few days, including a couple of times while in combat missions. On the positive side, the devs seem to be aware. so it should be fixed soon(tm)
if you have one spare, do try swapping routers/modems/string with a tin cans and see if that helps with stability for a bit. I used to have blue screen of death *all* the time with a Netgear ADSL modem/router, replaced it and the problem solved itself comp[letely.
good luck with getting on with the trial without too much hassle.

no need to change anything for anything imho, last weeks lag was out of the ordinary, i've never seen it that bad in any game, something somewhere went pear shaped as they say, and it wasn't our end.
