I am so sick of this! It has happened about a hundred times now! I sit for 15 minutes to compile a good post to answear something in a thread and when I klick POST REPLY the page reloads and my post is just GONE!?
I freakin hate this and it HAS to be fixed!
I partially blame myself for not copying all the text to clipboard before but seriously - this should not be necessary!
Fix this crap NOW (please)

Actually... it IS very annoying.
And second time you write up a post it tends to be a lot shoter and less elegant.
hmmm... i wonder if short and to the point posts is the real reason behind that "feature".

Personally I use the Opera browser. So far, even when the server logs me out and tries to log me back in when I post (which is what I think causes your problem) I could always get back what I typed by pressing the back button.
Alternatively, you can always compose your post first outside of the browser and then copy and paste it into the reply. --- The Advanced Drone Control Panel. |

Awwwww don't you just love it when people have nothing better to do than throw their teddy in the corner
On a more constructive level: 99% of the time, the problem lays with the internet (including your connection - slower connections are more vulnerable than faster ones, though fast ones are not immune). So, in short, its not their fault/problem.
Appologise to the nice web master, and move along quietly. Well forget this little outburst ever happened

I use IE and hitting back to recover the post when this happens always works. In fact, once it logs me in and blanks my post, I just 'Back' back to the post, hit post reply again, and it works, with no typing or copying or pasting.
IE FTW ----------

Yes it is necessary. All forums I have ever visited have hiccups every now and then (usually timing out and asking you to log back in, forgetting what you wrote). If you don't make a copy, it's your own fault. Heck, if you write something in Word and forget to save its your own fault.
The internet isn't perfect.

Edited by: Sandra Tseng on 08/08/2006 12:10:59 I can not say I agree on the statement that "it is my internet connection' fault" I post on many forums you know - not just theese, and it never happens anywhere else.
Also, it happens at my work (No idea what connection speed here) as well as at home (100/100 connection) - So I still blame the EvE forums.
And on a side note: I would never work without getting paid in some way or another, which I think you are
If not - thanks alot for your commitment, but ask for a small payment (isk?) and start fixin things likem this :p

That's rich, considering a mod has already posted twice in this thread without locking it
Anyway, it wouldn't be so much of a problem if it happened once in a while, but it is common knowledge that the eve-o forums are about as borked as it gets.

What drives me nuts is the login cookies for the forum are so short that you might hit reply and by the time you are done writing you've been logged out and if you try to just log in then it will forget your post.

It's sporadic.
It dosn't happen here, but does at home. It's not browser dependent. However, at home I have to log in once. Here I refresh and I'm not logged in...it takes 2-3 trys to login.

It isn't just the log out when replying. Even with cleared cache and cookies and and and.......this forum tends to 'forget' you're logged in quite a bit. i've tried with IE, firefox and opera (with opera working the best and yet not perfect).
These are the ONLY forums I've seen with this kind of problem. My solution is to compose the 'longer' stuff (such as tech replies down in our linux thread and such) in gedit and then paste it in here.
There are problems, and haven't stopped awhile ago...for most of us. ----- ------------

Edited by: Hugh Ruka on 08/08/2006 13:02:58 when it happens, hit the back button and hit post reply again. if you have a good browser (like mozilla), it will remember the form contentc when submited, so you'll have your post back and be able to post it immediately after the page loads from browser cache. no need to copy anything or write a new post.

There's an easy solution btw;
The normal go back button doesn't help much as it'll just 'go back' to an empty page, however if you use the pull down menu on the 'go back' button you'll see that there's a 'please wait' (or something) page which it will try to go back to but the second in line is an actual EVE-online page, if you click that one you're back at your post.

With Mozilla you can hit back and save your text.
I am sure its problem with logins, cos this always happens when forum says you are not logged in on forum index, but it says you are logged in on forum view or thread view. Or if you have two chars and just recently switched, check forum index and some forum view, both should say that you are logged in under same username but often it doesnt. And thats when problems with posting, not showing char info, endless reloads etc. happens.

personally never have a problem with it. So, yes, it must be PC specific
For reference, just because you don't have the problem elsewhere, doesn't always mean its a problem here (though its often a good indication ). It could be things like (purely for example) connection speed vs screen content. Basically, other forums are usually light on things like pictures etc. Eve is pretty heavy in that department.
