First off in spirit of what Akita T started I suggest the 'paper' cut thread on GD should be named in such manner to cerment what not only what Akita T snowballed into existence but help drive this is the impact factor ccp is looking for.
With that out of the way, onto the subject.
This argument is going to stem from a viewpoint for sake of for at least forum posters.
I bring to the table of reasons why keeping one thread open all the time can be counterproductive.
- For the first reason you are probably going to wind up with a thread numbering in the threadnaught size as its just a matter of eventuallity.
- Following the threadnaught problem is going to result in various problems.
- One may be the consumer/poster gives it the TL;DR and repeats papercuts thats been well defined already.
- Counterpointing though numberous of irritation of the same problem may speak volumes of the disconent for the feature (or lack of in most cases) I am going to weigh that this issue of closing out a thread for every expansion is more benificial than what is to be gained from numerous complaints.
- Secondly its going to inherinetly have problems listed that may have already been solved expansions ago.
- Thirdly its may eventually be a strain on developers overall going though such large threads and time consuming for newer information.
Now by starting a thread for every expansion is going to have several benifits.
- One it creates an archive. Naming the thread "Paper Cuts of {Insert Expansion Name Here}" creates an easily searchable and digestable sized document for everyone to read.
- It will also limit what a poster may have to read though allowing for more unique paper cuts to be possibly added.
- As an additional benifit the more annoyed players would point out papercuts that have carried over unresolved and combined with closing the threads out every expansion you can see how far back the cut has been in existence (if viewed as such by ccp)
- It also brings in a fresh oppertunity to start naming any new paper cuts that came with the expansion or any old ones that where forgotten about because of the larger cuts resolved.
- Finally what is going to be the icing on the cake, is that it will help players identify that ccp is indeed going though the thread, digesting it, and maintaining contanct with it instead of making an OP topic years ago and be expected to be taken seriously.
Also to keep things sensible previous expansions' thread should be locked and unsticked as the new one replaces it.
Aside from that I currently rest my case.

Well now the developers are awake.
I would also like to point out that starting a new thread every expansion would result in higher productivity as well saving time

Yeah I would like that too. Im sure new paper cuts will crop up with this expansion Im sure of it. Its almost like the endless fight against lag, sqaush one faceut and another opens up.

i found the hardest thing about that threadnought was that it was hard to find relevent information in it.
since i have an abundance of time on my hands at the moment, if one was made i might be willing to make a "thread directory" for it. a second thread that just lists the issues and not all the "ya" and "roaw i need my post here and bring nothing to the thread"
many of us get really tired over weeding through post after post of nothingness trying to find something good. |

I actually like this idea but, like Hecatonis, I find that a single thread full of little things tends to get overwhelmed with the same little thing on every other page because it is a hard read. OTOH, having these little suggestions strewn all over the place is counter-productive. Maybe if all the ideas got put into the correct forum things would be easy to find... Even then, forum threads get pushed to second pages and further.
Duplicate ideas and bugs are a fact of life for a developer. I personally tried and experienced several different tracking methods when I was actively developing open source, and I can't say this idea is any better or worse than any other.
EDIT: Thread "directories" like the one Ian Widdershins and co. are maintaining are extremely helpful, but they also take a lot of dedication and time. If someone can do that, it's one of the better strategies. Leaves only the fresh scent of pine. |

I have to agree that there isnt a nice or perfect solution to this but at least having a new one per expansion makes it more of a newsletter than a dictionary britanica. where words of english nobody has spoken in a thousand years can be found.

Well now that ccp are awake.
I sat down and thought about it and honestly couldnt forsee any other reasons for or against it.
To bad this server doesnt have foot notes or something a dev can inject.

Oh I like it, but at 56 pages long for what seems to been 1 month in age this thread is easily going to outpage GD forum itself within an expansion life cycle, and I for one dont have the time to browse though all 56 pages of what should be minor cuts though some people post entire bleeding wounds at time.

What might be better is a submit and vote system (like Ubuntu's Brainstorm). Everyone is on the same playing field, addressed issues can be removed, accepted issues can be elevated, and plain old spam can be eliminated without dirtying a forum thread. Duplicates can also be linked and ideas can be commented on with alternative solutions.
I should be more specific, it's based on Ideatorrent. I'm not sure how it's licensed.

Aphoxema brings up a good counter to my pruposal.
Have the thread moderated per patch. Make a fix'd post and trim out all the postings that called for that band-aid.

I know it's long, it's probably what's going to happen with every papercuts thread we put out there I hope we can just tick so many things off the list that the requests get fewer and fewer! CCP Punkturis | EVE UI Developer |

Agreeable, but remember grass is greener on the other side of the fence, pull out enough weeds on one side of the fence and when you hop over all of the sudden the other side has more weeds needing to be pulled.
...Thats a horrible analogy.

Alright, Ideatorrent is Gnu Public License version 2, so it is safe to use if CCP chooses to. If I still had a dedicated host I'd host it on behalf of the community, but someone else can take those reigns if they like.
Here's Ideatorrent's own Ideatorrent...
http://www.ideatorrent.org/ideatorrent
It's an amazing system and I'm sort of surprised more projects aren't using it already. Forums and single correspondence are just terrible ways to handle putting ideas together and I feel Ideatorrent is the only real solution I've seen yet.

I am actually glad I picked gallente subrace now. It looks more like myself than my old pre incarna avatar did.
But i have to agree punktruis does look like herself. Its better than alot of the older CCP is face pictures they did for one fan fest which honestly in retrospect wasnt that good especially after being pointed out by a winterstripe's comic.

thanks! I spent A LOT of time trying to create myself in the character creator, was probably weird for everyone else on my team always seeing my face on my display CCP Punkturis | EVE UI Developer |
