I see a lot of people suggest using AC on Maelstrom, but the maelstrom is slow as hell, base speed is less than 100m/s. Do people who fit AC on Maelstrom fight rats that come close to them (angel cartel)?
I'm in Caldari space and the gurstas are often keeping 50km between us. Now here's my question, would you still use AC on a Maelstrom in Caldari Space, and if so, how would you go about dealing with the missions.
Side note/question....how good are the fits on battleclinic? I've seen some highly voted fits that look...silly. I get the impression that sometimes people are voting things that look good on paper (like insane dps), but completely ignore things like how much range the ship has, how slow it is, etc. If a fit is more complicated (IE not cap stable, involves switching ammo, etc), I get the impression that people will not upvote it because it doesn't fit an ideal image in their mind, which in actually - disregards important factors like how much of that insane DPS will actually be applied to the enemies.

Don't use AC's in caldari space unless they're bolted onto a Vargur. Even then it's not the optimal solution.
Battleclinic fits are a good indication on where to go with PvE only, but copying them straight is rarely a good idea as they're all posted at "All V" skills. |

If you KNOW that caldari based npc tend to stay at 50km, why are you asking us if AC are the right weapon? Because they're obviously not. Yes, yes-áI am. Thanks for noticing.

the new MWD no longer leaves your cap completely banjaxed, and the AC shield boosting monster meal makes the best of it's hull bonuses. although it still might just be more efficient to use arty, and drop transverse on anything that gets too close.... NPCs are slow and dumb
gods I wish hull buffs were anything else. |

Our loadout function isn't meant to be a catalog of "win-fits" but rather a vehicle for discussion.
For PVE, there are certain ships with certain loadouts that you can copypasta and print isk, and you can find them readily enough on BC. And many FCs require specific loadouts on specific ships for various corp ops, roaming, etc.
For most players, though, loadouts are individual to their flying style, preferred role, and skill level (both human and game), and loadouts evolve as players modify their roles and goals.
The value of any loadout is inside the discussion, not the fit itself. If you want to get the most from BattleClinic, put a fit together and join the discussion. Killboard, Loadouts, PLEX and EVEMon at BattleClinic |

I routinely used to run missions in Lonetrek with a Mael, and I kept a set of autocannons handy. I didn't use them all that much, because of the range issues against Guristas (that's what my rack of 1400's was for), but they were handy to swap into when I had a mission against the Angel Cartel or something like that. Agree. I used to mission my alt in Black Rise in a Mael. With the Mael you need to keep arty vs guristas and ACs for Angels and Serpentis.
Once you get a Vargur then AC all the way. |

I am kind of with Marc too. I did run some missions with fleet tempest, I started with my usual arti fit, but then some missions were just easier to do with ac so in the end I carried a set of arti and a set of ac.
