So what ever happened to these unique environments? It's places like this that existed around eve that convinced a lot of people to go on an adventure. To find these places and see what was there. A lot of beauty that came with EvE has disappeared. She is capable of getting her beauty back, but why wont anyone help her I would rather ship spin at some of the old and busted places with the beautiful environments than in a plain and boring station.

CCP is killing their game from the inside, that's happening. They are cluless about the meaning of emotional connection and reduce EVE to a pointless game where no one feels any connection to it anymore.
And telling them is no use, because they lack people who understand what this means and rather hire brainiacs who think they are smart. One of these rather feelingless people call it "flavour" and proves his cluelessness. I am Sol. I cook my bacon naked, you sissies. I remember the environment with huuuuge, green tornadoes or something like that, it was completely out of place in a space game, I could only assume that some dev had bad LSD trip. http://i.minus.com/ibeZ0sJewvDMBN.gif =ƒÿü |

What, you mean to say that the new, updated and improved graphics are actually worse than the original? That's been true since they started working in it. See webs, lacking moving bits on ships, cynos etc etc etc. This is because the new and improved devs are a lot better just not as awesome as the old ones. Yes, yes-áI am. Thanks for noticing.

Another great example of how CCP killed a bit of emotional depth.

We can't get planetary interaction involving seeing the world behind a window in a station in EVE. They completely abandoned it for EVE. Same as WIS and avatar exploration. That was a great opportunity for a crazy, artsy stuff.
But the quality of models and some textures were updated, not really a resolution, just cleanliness and updated models. They did get rid of the completely crazy stuff, but it is what keeps some people too in a game, lets be fair, some craziness in a space game, not boring stuff. I vote for Quafe stations, broken moons, more epic explosions, comets orbitting the sun, and more life in a space, like some outposts with blinky lights, neutral haulers and miners around DED places in low sec. If you shoot them, incapacitate their outposts, you will lose sec status in empire, you will spawn faction militia and you will be yellow on the overview for everyone else. Some graphics, some gameplay. But no huuuge otherworldly tornadoes, or clouds and trees in space, if you want something epic, I would advise more broken, huge planetoids in data and relic sites, remains of space catastrophes from ancient times, as stations broken in half (and you could fly inside them, dammit), and comets ocassionally visible in some systems. Space is empty for the most part, let the small pockets of life be alive, or epicly dead. http://i.minus.com/ibeZ0sJewvDMBN.gif =ƒÿü |

The other major lroblem is the game is run by the 0.0 people. They dont care about anything in the game as long as it doesnt affect their ability to rat in supers. But their csm members keep getting voted in.

I don't think they are going to get this memo. I stopped posting [edit: almost] altogether in topics like this. I think we are in for a period of contraction. CCP doesn't usually act until things are really bad. It's only kinda bad now. |

I would not put that entirely on the denizens of nullsec though.
The root of the problem is the obsession with ISK or stats (or both). Anything new to the game that is not directly and with laserbeam focus fueling the min/maxer tendency to improve ISK or stats is demonized and denigrated with the usual rage about the game catering to carebears, going the way of WoW, etc. Everything to these people is "muh stats".
And if their influence could be accounted for, I would not say they entirely win. Certainly the graphics of the game ship-wise have improved, though the "feel" of space suffered somewhat.
Ship trails for example was something a lot of players, even the "muh stats/ISK" crowd wanted, so it's not all one-sided.
Few people will cheer the removal of the Pleasure Hubs. I don't know what SJW (old school religionist or modern day misandrist) move caused that to happen.
Meanwhile, that old trailer of the capsuleer exiting his pod with the narrative saying something like "sometimes you have to do things yourself" (paraphrasing here) is gone, because the min/max crowd screamed about space Barbie. The depth of that and the potential is gone.
And finally, the chronicles, which added further depth to the game, are fewer and far between. The live events are now scheduled, planned and canned, and more about stats than backstory.
Yeah better times are behind us. These days I'm reading the works of Poe rather than playing. I was here for the science fiction (Poe actually and in great detail has a story describing a moon flight using a balloon that I could not put down) but I fear I may leave sooner than later in disappointment.
If all I wanted was a game, or a scoreboard, I would have played something else for 8 years. Bring back DEEEEP Space! |

They've got their agenda, and schedule. They've got their "vision". I'm sure they're aware some of what they've done has a lasting appeal to some. I'm sure they're aware moving into this future will require some digital high-stepping. What it was will certainly not be what it will be. What will it be? They'll get to that ASAP I'm thinking. As you've all said, you would if it were you....

I would actually. Personally I believe immersion is a key factor in player retention. You know that phrase that was made popular "I was there", that holds true in a lot of respects. Personal belief, if a player really feels like they are there they will want to be there more often regardless of good or bad experiences.
They day I built my first battle ship, my mega (built aug 2006), which i still have today, i played the imperial march as i undocked it from oursulaert III fed navy assembly plant. Since ours was a great noob system at the time with lots of mission runners i finally felt like i could play with the big boys after undocking that ship like i alone could take on the universe. Of course i took it to all those sites, docked it etc to make it look good wherever i could. I felt like i was actually there.
That why i will always fight for immersion in this game. It's the one thing that got me to subscribe in the first place. |

But changing the explosion effects automatically means that they're an improvement, despite what the plebeian player-base says. The Devs' jobs are done for another five years.

I agree, those sites were awe-inspiring eye-candy which helped make Eve excellent. CCP probably removed them since most of them were mission based, mainly Cosmos.
I should have taken more screen shots while running them. Actually, I wish I had made some FRAPS videos while running those sites. They were mesmerizing, totally alive with ambiance.

OK first off when was the pleasure hub removed?? I never heard of it being removed.
I always wanted space tornadoes, please gimmie space tornadoes? Meh. I used to rant about them because I never got to see them.
As for that sign? I once got a mission with nothing in the site but a bunch of pirate frigates orbiting that sign, pretty sure that one is still around somewhere.
I enjoy a good session of mining.

Since this is part of the art team, I wonder how hard it would be to redesign it with the updated graphics? I suspect with the new engines it might be more graphics intensive though. Any art and graphics devs able to comment on this? |
