New Player Oceanus Deal
1 Month $9.99 a month 3 Months $10.00 a month 6 Months $8.33 a month 12 Months $8.33 a month
Just for new players.
https://secure.eveonline.com/AddGametime/
1 Month $14.95 a month 3 Months $12.95 a month 6 Months $11.95 a month 12 Months $10.95 a month
For existing players.
Am I missing something or is there a reason why CCP appears to be placing a lower value on retaining existing customer as opposed to attracting new customers?

NOTE: The offers displayed apply to your first purchase only. After the initial payment, your subscription will automatically renew at the regular subscription rates.
That's written literally right under the prices. CCP is trying to lure new customers, nothing wrong with that. |

And to answer your second question, it's due to the slow but steady rise in popularity this game is getting again. When buzz starts you want to advertise to capitalize on that. Why would they spend more effort and lose revenue when existing customers are already paying? |

I, for one, am happy to see CCP trying to find some new kids to play in the sandbox.
The old ones are starting to get on my nerves, to be honest.

What is a "New Account Promotion" for $400 Alex.
The part you may be missing is many existing players use these to create alts. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the ho's and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' and I'll look down, and whisper 'Hodor'. |

Just off the top of my head, two things come to mind:
1) New players tend to pay with cash. $$$ converts on the books a lot more readily than a conversion of digital currency to income. 2) Subscriptions, if you believe all the whining by the Space Barbies, are stagnant (to be generous). New players (aka, new subscriptions) help the numbers shown to the industry talking heads. And investors. :)
But in the spirit of full disclosure, I'm closing three of my four accounts in the next 3 weeks. No you can't haz stuff: characters are getting biomassed and stuff is getting blowed up. "Blow it all on Quafe and strippers." --- Sorlac |

You area already hooked on the EVE drug so keeping you is easier than attracting new people. Once they get hooked, they will pay just like you because they are into it by now. It's like cellphone giving you a rebate on the hardware, internet promotion for the first x months and pretty much all subscription plan. |

Yeah I guess that makes sense. I was under the impression that there were bigger issues coming up now with existing player retention. So when I saw this I just kinda shook my head and was wondering. I was thinking Ok this is great for the new players.... But isn't this kinda a slight to their existing customers?
I'm all for bringing new bros into the game but I've also seen some people leave that have played the game for years. Just trying to figure out why none of these sales promotions are geared towards existing players. Maybe those promotions happen and I just missed out, I dunno.......
But yeah I realize that by posting on the eve-o forums many people would rather post snarky replies to my question then actually provide some helpful feedback. Which to be honest does so much more to encourage newbros to become part of the community.

PLEX are not made out of thin air. Nobody pays their subs with ISK. The only "currency" CCP accept to add gametime to an account is a PLEX which are income already cashed by CCP but not treated as an income until it was redeemed for accounting reasons. |

What you're missing are threads dealing with paying with PLEX leading to the ghost assumption all "old" players actually pay money. New players don't have an enterprise up sufficient to pay with PLEX. By the time they do, they'll be "old" players.
I like that kind of math. Don't you? Ultimately, CCP needs money. They can't spend PLEX to pay their light bill. Anyone with any sense has already left town. |

CCP can not pay their bills with PLEX. It's not a valid currency in iceland.

How did that PLEX get created in game? What happened in the real world for a PLEX to be created in game? List all the steps and you might understand. |

1 PLEX purchase is more valuable to CCP than 1 month of subscription, if they could choose, everyone would be using PLEX to pay their sub. |

That's true to some extent. But in all cases those subscription based services you're talking about usually require a phone call to cancel the account. So if a person is ready to pull the plug on their service they call up and are immediately thrown something similar to an incentive package to continue being their customer. And yes I can say this from personal experience.
With Eve however, when someone walks like the person above who's going to biomass 3 of their 4 accounts, that's it. That's lost revenue that will not end up being poured into the game.
Like I indicated above yeah these incentives are great for new players. But there doesn't seem to be anything beyond the power of two offer for existing players. And if memory serves that's good for 6 months when you create a linked account right?
Love the name by the way |

Guess a change like this is just like a double-down on my original point.
You would still be wrong. While the older player might lose some capacity that he had before, it's only because the game rules changed. The newbie player is not getting treated better by CCP in this case. |
