We are now at 2008 level. I was there, so it's okay. The effect of the cap butchery on 0.0 would be interesting though. |

Nice try, Mittens... BoBwins Law: As a discussion/war between two large nullsec entities grows longer, the probability of one comparing the other to BoB aproaches near certainty. |

For the love of god some people of f**king ********.
Eve offline only shows the PCU count. It does not show how many subscribers there are.
PCU Count does not equal subscribers..

The last Official figures given by CCP was in Feb 2013 when they hit 500,000 subscribers. This included all Dust 514, Serenity as well as Tranquillity accounts.
They often use to give subscription figures in their QEN reports before they stopped them.
Since Feb 2013 they have not released any official figures. We are now in Oct 2014. Make of that what you will.
In the last QEN which was the last quarter of 2010, CCP stated there 360,000 accounts, with 725,000 different characters in-game. The average number of characters per account was just over 2 which had been stable over the years

@ Zmikund there was some sort of Fanfest presentation earlier this year where I think Rise (?) talked about player retention stats. It'll be on the CCP Youtube page somewhere (possibly under New Player Experience).
You can attempt to work out how many subs there are by reviewing the FinStats, but the method for handling Plex sales obscures raw sub numbers.
There's also the results of a 2012 survey here that give some interesting numbers (3rd chart down in particular).

There are less people on the server than there used to be.
We dont know how many though, CCP quit publishing the numbers to mmo-data.net and then the site went down for good.

Subscribers only matter to the health of CCP's finances. PCU speaks to the health of the game.
AFAIK CCP's financials are to some degree a matter of public record? So vague guesswork isn't needed there. Witty Image - Stream Not Liking this post hurts my RL feelings and will be considered harassment |

There are plenty of graphs, charts and statistics... and CCP will never let you or me see them.
Those charts on that link mean nothing except for the year-long trend. And I will tell you exactly why there was a decrease.
PLEX skyrocketed to 800m in a matter of days really... and many, like myself just let alt accounts go inactive. Personally, I have a total of 11 accounts, including this one. I will bring 1 or 2 alts online for a month once in a while, but the current cost of PLEX (in-game) is manifest there.
What I would like to know is what is the bare minimum of staff CCP would need to manage servers just to keep the game running at the status-quo (at any given point in the future). I think EvE would last a very long time with minimal CCP staff and only a few thousand subscribers. Yes, new content wouldn't be developed often, if ever... but I think the game could easily survive in that worst case scenario. |

If all else fails, they can sell the game to Riot. That way, it gets its best devs back. GÇ£Some capsuleers claim that ECM is 'dishonorable' and 'unfair'. Jam those ones first, and kill them last.GÇ¥ - Jirai 'Fatal' Laitanen, Pithum Nullifier Training Manual c. YC104 |
