Just played part 1 of L2 "Technological Secrets" again in my Caracal. It's a breeze in that ship because even though I start in middle of the Thukker (sp?) pack, my passive shield tank with two mission-specific hardeners easily holds and I'm able to AB out to 50+ Km where I'm out of range. Then I simply heavy missile them to death. I can turn off the hardeners because with AB I'm faster than all enemies so they can't close on me.
Fine, but what about L3 "TS" in a Ferox?? My Ferox would be too slow to escape the initial enemy pack so my greater range would be useless. Also, I've read here that you can get warp-scrambled in this mission......so that tank had better hold. But if you can't get away and if you can't kill enemies fast enough, you're going to be fighting 3 waves of enemies (rifters, stabbers, the lot). I did some research here on this and the consensus seems to be, if you get scrambled, you can easily be dead in this mission. I've read there are some strategies (such as using a shuttle to place bookmarks, etc), but I'm wondering if this mission should be avoided unless you have have high skills/best weaps on your Ferox (which I don't)? Thanks for any info.

If I remember corretly, alot of the frigs tend to orbit in smartbomb range. So I'd use that to your advantage. Other then that, you'll need to have either a good passive tank, or a sustainable active tank, but when using smartbombs you'll probably have cap issues. It's been a while since I've done it, and even longer with a Ferox.
In my case I nearly tanked it all with almost no SP and a passive tank that included 3 Large Shield Extenders, making my shields at about 10K hp (or maybe over). Together with Shield... Rechargers? (not sure about that part) I could tank alot of the incoming damage. The only thing I lacked was sufficient firepower to kill the spawns fast enough.

It can be done fairly easily with low skills in a Ferox. I started running L3 missions at about 1.1 mil SP, 660k were in learning and about 300k were in spaceship command(amarr and caldari cruiser both at L3), the bulk of the remaining SP were in missiles and engineering.
I was using 3 or 4 of the best named Large Extenders and Malkuth Heavy launchers at the time. low slots were shield power relays.
I don't recall my shield recharge rate(it was relatively fast), but my cap recharge rate was around 1500 seconds and my shields were around 11-13k.

I ran that mission with this set up. which gives me a almost undefeatable setup for a ferox on all lvl 3 missions i've ran, from low quality to the highest.
Hi- 5 malkuth heavy launchers with scrouge missiles, one tractor beam, med nos Mid- Large C5-L shield booster, invuln field I, Photon Field I, Thermal shield hardener. (named ones help as they give you an extra 2 secs of duration), fill the rest with large shield extenders. Low- Either one BCU and the rest Power diagnostics or as I run all PDU's. (helps tremendously with cap and shields while also giving you more grid)
I've only been forced to warp out a few times since that setup and always run solo and can finish on the second sweep. the ship is in my opinion set to be extroadinary with that setup and can take quite a beating for a long time.

I very much caution using the setup above in a ferox. The ferox is not a great active tanker, it's much better at passive tanking. But run other missions with your passive first to know how it works in the ferox before trying a hard mission. The setup I'd use is as follows:
Hi:5 5 launchers 2 tractors (if you need more firepower, throw 2 75 or 125mm rails on for frigs... even blasters possibly with high tracking and make sure they can shoot at least 10km without going more than 1 falloff away)
Med: 2-3 Large Shield Extenders (T2 if possible, Regolith if not) 2-3 rat specific hardeners (NO INVULNV FIELDS). Use one of each type you'll face and perhaps an extra in the damage type the enemy uses more often as listed on eveinfo.
Low: 4 Shield Power Relays
That's it. Simple setup, not too expensive really either. You should have your shield regen/max skills to 3/4 at least as well. Otherwise this is plenty to handle level 3 missions... at least it was for my friend who had less than 1 mil SP's and didnt know the game all that well.

My set up
Hi's 5x XR Heavy Missile Launchers 2x Tractor Beam
Med's 3x Top named Shield Extender (Can use lower, just a nice buffer) 2x Rat Specific (ACTIVE) hardners.
Low's
2x BCU 2x Shield Relays.
I never warp out, do most missions AFK. Have 2m SP (1.4m of that in learning)

Edited by: Shadarle on 12/08/2006 01:28:50 With slightly better skills (More than 1-2 mil) that setup you listed is great for sure. The BCU's make missions much faster, just slightly less tankability for low SP/scared people
