Can anyone give me a complete breakdown on how these agents work....how to get started, what is the best way to go about doing it, the skills needed how to advance etc. I pretty much have no knowledge about these agents, and i would like to know all about them. Any and all info is appreciated |

You need an agent. You need sufficient standing from the agent and his corp. You need Science 5. You need the skill related to the research area at the same level as the agent - or higher. The research areas list the T2 BPO that are in the lottery. If none are listed, you still get to collect RP each day, waiting for a new wave of BPO to be handed out. You fly to the agent, talk to him and tell him to work for you.
You wait.
You get research points each day. You will find the formula in my bio. Now he mgiht have a mission every 24h - or not. Quite some R&D agents do not have missions. He will send you an invitation via EVEmail. You can do the mission for doubling your RP income for the day - or ignore the invitation. If you ignore the invitation, the agent will stop sending you invitations. You continue getting your daily does of RP. If you are around and want to do your daily mission, just talk to the agent. The missions normally cost you quite a sum as most are of the type 'Bring me fifteen cans of <RareMissionLoot> for a thankyou.'.
When you stop the research at an agent, all accumulated RP from the agent are gone.
If the unrandomgenerator decides that your agent has a BPO for you, the agent will send you an EVEmail.
If you do not claim the BPO within a week or 5 days, he'll offer the BPO to another pilot. You will still have your RP from that agent and the research continues.
If you claim the BPO, all RP will be lost with that agent, and your research is stopped. You can start the agent's work right there again. --*=*=*--
Even with nougat, you can have a perfect moment. |

There is a lot of information in this old thread. Much of it is valid, however there are currently no T2 BPOs seeded. Only the Devs know if there will be any more seeded in the Kali Part 1, or if invention will replace the lottery.
Cheers, Arrs.

You only need the research skill at level 1 to begin research regardless of the agent level. Any increase over level 1 only serves as a modifier for your RP per day. I started a level 4 research agent with only level 1 in the field.

Nope. Science skill must be in line with agent level or agent won't lead the project. For example, agent lvl4 and your Nuclear Physics skill must also at lvl4. Besides, it's all in agent info... called requirements.

Not true. Started an agent yesterday with only skill level of 1, agent was level 4.

Oh, IÆm sorry, I must be mistaken. I guess I wasnÆt sitting at the agentÆs station waiting for my skill training to finish level 1 so I could start a level 4 research agent doing Laser Physics research with my Laser Physics skill at level 1 on 2006.07.05 at 23:15 Eve time. My RP per day surely then didnÆt increase with each corresponding increase in skill level from 2 to 3 and finally 4 on 2006.07.10 at 16:55 Eve time. I must have just imagined the whole thing then.
Seriously though, the player guide also says itÆs required in an obtuse sort of way. It also says that labs are rented for five day blocks and that there is a drawing in the tech2 lottery every hour. Browse through old patch notes and youÆll notice lots of æfixed error in description boxÆ type fixes. The description is incorrect or the implementation is screwy; either way donÆt dismiss it if youÆve never actually tried it.
