Ok, perhaps I'm just too old, or generally to dumb, or my brain is just wired the wrong way, but I wonder whether I should just give up on this game. After f***** eight months in this game I've just spend half an hour trying to do something totally basic and simple that will take about a second ***if you know how to do it***---and I couldnt do it.
Its this: I bought a couple of frigs, and I wanted to transport them with my Bestower. Ships you bought, contrary to other items, dont show in the item hangar, but in personal assets. (Why???? they could just as well show un-assembled in the item hanar, no?) To get them into your hangar, you have to assemble them. If I assemble them, they wont fit into the frighter, but I dont find a way to get them in non-assembled, packaged form into either the freighter or into the item hangar. Right-clicking them doesnt show any way, dragging them with the mouse doesnt work. So apparently Im once again not seeing something totally obvious, or once again to do a simple, basic thing you have to do some secret dance steps or curious movements with the mouse or whatever. As many times before, I fail to think out the right search string for google to find a solution.
Yeah, Im *whining* here. Enjoy the salty liquid.
Anyone tell me the, surely totally simple, solution, though? |

tldw;
- make sure you are not in the ship you want to move (right-click, "Leave Ship") - right-click the ship in question, "Repackage" - ship is now an item and can be moved into cargoholds and/or sold on the market
NOTE: even though a "packaged" ship is now an item, it will still be in the hanger with other ships. There is a way to combine items and ships into one window... but I will have to look into it.
Also... don't feel bad. Stupid **** like this happens all the time even to the best of us. A few months ago a bitter vet friend of mine (from the early years of EVE) resubbed. The man spent 10 minutes looking for the "Undock" button and then screamed "What is THIS??? WHAT DID THEY DO TO MY EVE!" Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

Ships always show in the ship hangar, despite their state.
https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Inventory_window
You might want to add your assets to the station menu: ESC > General Settings > Station > Merge "items" and "ships" into station panel
You'll find EVE a lot less frustrating if you just ask before you do get frustrated |

Perhaps I should word my prob shorter: How to get a ship from "Personal Assets" to "Inventory" without assembling it? |

Btw, you can just click-and-drag the packaged ships from the ship hangar into your bestower.
You don't need to assemble them.
EVERYTHING shows in the assets window, regardless if it is a ship or an item. It is for locating things, not manipulating them. Inventory is for manipulating.
If you are not in the ship, you can right-click it in your inventory and repackage it. |

Hey, really, I dont want to be complicated, but new-bought ships for me *never* showed in the inventory, but only in the Assets. The only way to make them usable so far has been clicking at them in the Assets window and "assemble" them....only after that they use to show in the inventory. I guess, there must be another setting that is different between your and my installation.

When you look at your cargohold, do you see a tree to the left?
It has: * Current ship (cargohold) * Ship Hangar (where all your ships in-station are). * Item Hangar (where all your items in-station are). Left-click on one to change the view.
If you don't see the tree, it may be collapsed. There is a white arrow (triangle) at the top left of the window under the word "inventory". Click on it to expand / collapse.
This help? |

Any bought ship should appear in your "ship hangar", unassembled or assembled. Not in your item hangar.
Unassembled ships just don't show up in the quick drop down menu of the ship hangar (as you can't board them yet). Click Ship hangar itself and voila, they are there. Your ship hangar will by default also show any assembled ship in the tree to the left. For quick access and switching, but your unassembled ships are also in the ship hangar. Ok, perhaps a screenshot really helps here:
http://rat-service.de/temp/assets.jpg
......from the very beginning, no bought ship ever appeared in my Inventory before I right-clicked at it in the Assets and "assembled" it. This drove me nuts and cost me an hour or two when I bought a ship for the first time. |

You are looking in the wrong window. :D
There should be TWO windows... one for items (Inventory) and one for ships, packaged or otherwise (Ship Hanger).
You can find the Ship Hanger in the NeoCom "start button" (the E above your picture) and in one of the folder trees in there. When you find it, drag it down to toolbar on the left side. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

All good now....Tau talked to me in game and solved it for me. Idiotic from me, surely, but I just had not realized that the new ships would not appear on the left side in the ship list, but only if I really clicked at the "ship hangar", then they appear on the right.
Sight, again...prolly my dumbness, but perhaps also a bit of complicatedness one doesnt necessarily get.
Anyway: Thanks to all that tried to help me!

It can happen to anyone.
When I started out I was completely baffled by the fact that I was unable to stack some items in my hangar. I took me several weeks to realise that items have to be repackaged before they will stack. |

That's cool! ....but allow me to modify your graphic a tad to add the advice that actually I needed: Before Tau told me, I actually never CLICKED AT SHIP HANGAR. Perhaps very dumb, but perhaps, as I realize now, not really so dumb, cause EVE at this point moves away from Windows standards that are very deeply ingrained in most of us: In the list on the left side Ship Hangar is opened, and the assembled ships are listed there---according to normal Windows UI standards that means nothing else but these same ships would appear on the right side if you clicked at Ship Hangar. Obviouisly, EVE is not a standard Windows program, but the Inventory just looks so much like a standard Explorer-like display that one, or at least I, is expecting the same behavior.
Anyway: the slightly modified graphic:

Not entirely true.
In Windows tree system, you will only see sub-folders (assembled ships) in the tree, but you won't see actual files (un-assembled ships) in the tree itself.

Actually youre mostly right, regarding Windows tree system, then again a folder wont unfold and show the sub-folders unless you clicked at the folder beforehand---and then you will not only see the the sub-folders but also the single files on the right side anyway. In EVE the ship hangar folder seems to be unfolded by default, without showing the "files" (=non-assembled ships) on the right. But lets not nitpick: I think what confused me may indeed confuse other players, too, so I guess its good we have established the silly, simple solution here.
(And of course Im not using MS Paint but Photoshop like everyone...I just sometimes find it kind of charming to brutally paint with the brush instead of using the straight-line pencil. Wouldnt have cost any more time, but I found it funnier this way.) |

I prefer a different solution.
In the main "E" menu in the upper left you will find "inventory -> open ship hangar".
You can drag that icon to the bar on the left to be able to immediately open your ship hangar, rather than clicking the inventory icon first. Saves a click and makes it so I always see items when I click inventory and ships when I click ship hangar.
Don't lose heart. You'd be surprised what some of the older players don't know. It's a vast game. Nobody knows everything about everything. www.ensignyooch.wordpress.com

I used the merged option to see my inv and ships hanger in the station gui .. which shows all ships nicely .. and i had never thought of not being able to see them the way you were looking at them .. i would have been as lost if i solely relied on that method .. learn things (not just 1 thing) every day in eve .. year after year after year.

To have to come here and have this convo on the forum tells me that you don't have much support in game. This game is a true MMO you need to play with other people to really enjoy it so I'd look for an active corp with helpful members. Or find some chat channels with friendly people in it.
You are not too old nor too dumb. This game is complex. I had my cousin get me into this game and had him on vent to walk me through simple stuff, It was a year of that before I felt even slightly confident.
TLDR; get friends, find a good corp, find good chat channels. |

The sad thing is that I played eve online before all these UI changes and it was more intuitive back then. Ship hanger for instance, was much easier to find for a newbie. Every time you opened an inventory tab, it was a new window instead of redirecting your window to that place. That made dragging and dropping items, ships, and ore, etc, much more intuitive than the system in place now. |
