I am in a quandary. I want to PvP more (I've done very little), but I hate the large loss of skill points that switching to a blank clone involves.
Everything I want to do seem to require so much training, and the difference +4 implants add more than one day's worth of extra training out of seven. And while I am prepared to lose tons of ships on a regular basis learning PvP, implants are just too expensive. But skillpoints are the one thing that can't be gained by gameplay, so it really hurts to be sitting in a blank clone for a day because I decided to go on a roam for a couple hours.
How does everyone deal with this issue?
I suppose once you are really good at PvP, you can be confident enough to fly with a high value clone, but it will take me a long time to get there even if I started PvPing more. |

Getting a pod out usually isn't a problem (unless you're in null). In low, you can more or less count on a pod instawarping.
If you're worried about it, try +2s or +3s. Find a sweet spot where your budget can afford a few sets of replacements. Oh, and if you're skilling to fit your remap, only plug in the relevant implants. On my most active character I've been on int/mem for... a long time... and only have those two implants upgraded. |

A couple of thoughts:
Don't ever use blank clones. +3s are about 11 million, last I looked, so that makes them affordable to almost every pilot. At the VERY LEAST you could do +2's for learning and base hardwireing for expendable pods.
As you get better and better, you'll learn to start spamming your pod into warp before the ship even explodes. At some point you will get comfortable flying +4's regularly.
Just buy the 2 PRIMARY implants that apply to what you are training. Fly them until you have to buy the off map implants one at a time. Generally, if I lose a pod with 4 implants, it means I've had that pod a LONG time. (And it probably means I made a mistake) I can live with one or two losses a year like that. |

Well, I've lost pods in null, but I didn't even try to escape, I didn't even want to bother trying to fly out in a pod. And I lost one to a war target because I tried to dock, and they podded me before the station docked me. Since then I've jumped around celestials creating a safe spot and hoping they don't try to scan me and go away. I'm unclear if immediately trying to warp to and jump through a stargate is a safe option.
Using lower grade implants, and only the ones immediately necessary makes sense, cuts the skill point pain down. |

Simple, don't fly with implants. If you do, fly with very cheap ones. Low sec is usually a hard place to catch pods, unless you have smartbombs. |
