...I'm fairly sure lots of people taking up EVE were inspired by stellar sci-fi (not to mention the devs), so what's your favourite series or movie?
(PS: you shouldn't find it too hard to guess mine - the toon is Mallory Reynolds, the ship is the Kaywinnet Lee, and I signed up to Firefly Industries...)

Movie : Blade Runner
I watched Serenity the other day, was a nice movie. I liked the Reavers who had ships that looked like the Blood Raiders ships.

Best Movie of ALL time!!! (at least Sci-Fi wise)
I'd have to go with Firefly/Serenity also as a big Favorite of mine.
What got me hooked though was Startrek, All the way from TOS to Enterprise, Once it started... there was no turning back

Favorite series: hard to say, so many. Currently running it is Batlestar Galactica. If I miss an episode of SG-1 I shrug it off and wait for reruns. I *don't* miss episodes of BSG. For those of the past, well, I was a big fan of Farscape, and I swear to god if you mock me, I will come over there, Andromeda(which I can explain).
Favorite Movie: Again, so many choices. I'll have to go with original Star Wars. For me it defined what sci-fi should be. Epic overarcing story, mix of ground and space based combat, drama, intrigue... it defines the genre for me.
Favorite book: Toughie. Probably Timothy Zahn's Star Wars series, but mostly just because of his writing style compared to the other sci-fi writers I have read. I actually saw what he was writing about, the rest the pictures were at best blurry.

I have to agree with Avon there, strange he would like B7 , as B7 is excellent. No happy endings there.
As for film well that'd have to be, I want to say Serenity but it's too soon to say it's the best one ever, The Terminator even though I don't really see that as a sc-fi film.
The worse would have to be Solaris with George Clooney. How the hell did they turn out a film so boring and crap? ___________________________________________________ Serenity Prime Is Recruiting |

1) Babylon 5 1a) BSG 2) Farscape 3) SG1 4) Star Trek TNG 5) SGA
There are so many Movies that I like, I can't pick one...
If I have to pick one I'd put at the top, it would be UnderWorld, closely followed by Stargate, then Unbreakable (I consider it Sci-Fi).
Then all the StarWars, StarTrek, etc... So many I like... ------------------------------------------------ Current Hobby other than EVE

sorry DS, I loved Ghost in the Shell but i thought the remake of Appleseed was attrocious. I refuse to by in to this 3d and conventional animation mix. GitS did it well, as did the korean movie Sky Blue. However Appleseed just smelled bad. I thought the original was much better!
For me its Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex all the way to the finish line as best sci-fi - Ever!

I've enjoyed B5 in the past, as the undertone of politics and scheming running through a long term story arc was good to see when written properly. I think thats why crusade died a death, it was more TNG than B5. For the same reason I liked DS9, when they got into the major politics and war stroyarcs.
For this reason I absolutely adore Battlestar Galactia. Its dirty, very dirty, true to life.
Bladerunner would probably be my favourite movie.

Um, it wasn't a mix of 3D and conventional: it was 100% 3D. Not a frame was hand-animated.
Yes, some of the 3D was rendered in a cel-shaded fashion, but it was still entirely CGI.
I thought the movie was good simply because it had a good, understandable story, good characters, badass action, and its the best CGI movie ever. Of course, since it only has to compete against Final Fantasy, thats not a hard title...

Disney films like Cars and Toy Story, and Dreamworks films like Shrek don't count.
There are normal CGI films (Appleseed, FF, etc), and then there are cartoon CGI films.
Toy Story is a "cartoon" CGI film and thus doesn't really count in my mind.

Although 'the spirits within' had generally a sh!te story, practically no action, and was generally crap, imo it's stil the most realistic-loking CGI film...

"Ants"? Wasn't Disney or Dreamworks IIRC, but still wasn't that great either. Worth watching though.

I prefer my Sci-Fi quite gritty, with an element of reality. I know this sounds stupid the idea of Sci-Fi is just that Fiction. I just prefer to get caught up on the story and believe, ęDamn you know what that could be possible.Ę I cannot stand the likes of Stargate, it never makes me think that. Stargate and its brethren are horribly parodies. If you ask someone to describe whatĘs happening in a typical episode of Stargate. You had better prepare yourself to be bombarded by the most bizarre assortment of b-movie garbage and clichTs.
Still umpteen years on and there still going, so they must be doing something right?........right?
IĘm not opposed to flights of fancy, were I can let my imagination run wild but some shows just seemąącheap!?!
