If this has been posted before, I apologize, though it wasn't in the list of frequented ideas.
So, we all know there are a lot of aspects of the game that need improvement before throwing new capitals into the mix can be a viable idea. But be hypothetical for a moment, and humor me.
Imagine having Pirate and Navy/Fleet Issue Capitals available for fleets. I'm not talking about Supers like the Nyx, Hel, Aeon, Wyvern, and CERTAINLY not Titans, but mainly Carriers. Those ships are so big and expensive that they almost need to be one of a kind. But, in general, Carriers aren't overly expensive, usually around 1bill (from what I've seen, minus the fits, which usually bring them up around 2-3bill). Now imagine having an Archon Navy Issue, Thanatos Navy Issue, Chimera Navy Issue, and a Nidhoggur Fleet Issue available to Capsuleers. Or for those of you who love the flare of the Pirate Faction, think of a Blood Raiders faction Archon, or Guristas faction Chimera, etc. (I'm not sure how a Pirate faction Nidhoggur would work, wouldn't it be an Angel faction? I forget what the Minmatar Pirate faction is :/ )
These faction ships could have proper traits that go along with their factions, yet keep them for being overpowered, which is the most prominent issue with giving something like a Capital ship an upgraded version. It's for this reason that I am a bit hesitant on the idea of T2 Carriers, along with many others. The Price of the ship would also be an issue, you can't have something that is so ridiculously expensive that only the richest of the rich can afford to buy and fly them. In the case of the Megathron, the standard issue is usually just under 200mil, the Navy Issue is about 500mil, and the Vindi (Serpentis Pirate Faction) is right around 1billion Isk. So you pay about 2.5x more for the Navy, and about 5x more for the Pirate. If you apply that to a carrier like the Thanatos (sticking with Gallente theme of example), you'll be paying around 3bil for the Navy hull, and at least 5bil for a Pirate hull.
Again, this all hypothetical. We are all aware of the current issues with the ships in the game. Hell I don't even know if this is even a good idea. But say there WAS an opportunity for faction Carriers. What would be a proper upgrade from the standard carriers flying around Low/Null sec, that wouldn't make them overpowered or excessively expensive. What would a Navy or Pirate carrier realistically look like to you guys?
* I left Dreads out of this because they already do how many thousand DPS with incredible tanks, they don't exactly need an upgrade. However, for the sake of discussion, how would you set up faction dreads so they aren't crazy OP?

Lets wait until Fozzie/Rise rebalance (nerf into the ground, depends on who you ask!) Carriers first, then ask for faction ones!
....and the only warning was the last line of the patch notes, which said. "Oh yeah, we also shuffled Moon Goo around!"
Show your support, move Moon Goo with Power Projection changes!-á

I second the request to wait and see where regular carriers go before we worry about faction versions. Also, the angel carrier would instantly be the best if it has the typical fairly balanced slot layout of an angel ship and the warp speed bonus.
That crazy bag FC with the silly things on the hull that shouldn't but just did.

Not necessarily demanding or asking for something right this instantly, or even in the near future. Just comprehending what faction carriers would be like, and what effect they'd have on the game.
Btw, do standard carriers need a Nerf? Why or why not? If somebody has a link to this topic please let me see it. Thanks! |

Lugh dear, with the bomber changes we are getting those neut-bombs. I think we has enough capacitor warfare as it is and even though I cannot fly Blood Raider a bhaalgorn can cap a carrier out fast enough with its nosses

I would love to see a Blood Raider Carrier with strong bonus to neut (and NOS ofc) amount and range, essentially turning them into capital neuts (as actually introducing capital-sized neuts would probably be bad for the balance). And a Gurista Carrier with damage and HP bonus applying to both subcap drones and fighters.
When it comes to Dreads, how about an Angel Cartel Dread with falloff bonus and another Caldari Dread with Hybrid Turret optimal range bonus? Chances are that those ships will be very expensive and rarely used in combat, of course. But who cares, everyone prefers new ships instead of just new paint jobs
Edit: Yeah, I forgot about those new bombs that will drain a carrier quick enough. We yet have to see how OP or commonly used they will be, though.
People hate highsec for various reasons. Mine is the terrible metallic music that plays on and on.

Remember when titans were introduced and people thought that they'd be relatively unique things due to their price? ... I figured If there's one thing CCP has learned, it's that isk cost is just about never going to be a limiting factor for a ship. |

I would say that due to the extremely high premium that pirate faction carries, it would not be feasible to make pirate faction carriers.
A straightforward enough route to go would be instead of introducing faction capitals, introduce navy faction fighters. They would carry all the advantages and premiums of navy drones, but unlike an actual faction capitals they wouldn't be a logistical nightmare to move and sell. |

Yes faction carriersGǪGǪ BUT:
Make current carriers into logistics only platforms.. Remove all drone bonuses and only keep fleet support things (reps, ship bay) No fighters 250m3 drone bay 125m3 bandwidth. Make faction carriers a combat only version. (no fleet support bonus only drone and dps ones) 1+ drone per level. Fighter Damage bonus. No rep range bonus or anything (so you can fit but you get crap range just like fitting reps on BSGÇÖs compared to proper logistics ships) No ship bay or a super small one like 500k m3
This also gets away from Carriers been able to refit for pretty much any situation. So gives us shiny things to use/kill but fixes the carrier OP fitting problem. Does not even need to be faction carriers just make 2 different types of normal carrier one for combat one for well not anything to do with dps. |

titans had/have quite a unique role if you want a ship that does what a titan do you have to bite the bullet and buy a titan there is no other option, so price tag for them it's not really an issue. a faction carrier would just be like all the others carriers with extra HP, extra bonus and doubled price, still they wont really bring anything new to game they wont fill that unique niche like a titan would do. |
