I love keyboard shortcuts because they give you a way to quickly tell the computer what you want to happen without moving a little mouse pointer to a specific spot on your screen and then clicking a button. Keeping that in mind, here are some disconnects where a keyboard shortcut should work a certain way, but does not.
Launcher If I've clicked "Switch User" after logging in on my main account, I should be able to use the arrow keys to switch between all the saved account names. Right now, the only way to do that is to click on the little down arrow, deleting the contents of the user name field, or typing a letter that is not the first letter of any saved account names. To be fair, this is probably the least time consuming thing for me to deal with manually. Since my hand already has to be on the mouse to click "Switch Characters" to begin with... but I just don't like it.
Game The default key to warp to and use the selected item is "d" (in this case, a stargate or a station). If you've clicked on an item in your overview to select something it's just a quick movement to click the dock/jump button on your selected items window. However, when you have multiple clients all over multiple monitors.... things are a bit different. Right now, if you jump through a stargate, the next stargate (or station) on your autopilot is automatically highlighted and pseudo-selected in the selected items window. I say pseudo-selected because you can immediately click jump/dock on the selected items window and it works every time. However, if you just hit the "d" key, without having clicked it on the overview first, nothing happens (a notice shows up to click on something in your overview, but that doesn't count). In my world, I'd be able to just hit the "d" key, and my ship would warp/jump/dock just as if i had hit the button with my mouse on the selected items window. ---example--- The way it is now, I have to click each game window I have open, move the mouse to the selected items window, click on the dock/warp/jump button, move to the next window, and then repeat as necessary for all clients. The way it should be, I would click on the button on my taskbar for the 1st client with one hand, then the other hand hits the "d" key. then i move over a tiny bit to hit the button for the next client on my taskbar, and hit the "d" key. rinse and repeat for all clients as necessary.
This is true for many of the keyboard shortcuts. If you haven't clicked on something inside the game window first, the shortcut does absolutely nothing. Minor problem? Yes. Working as intended? I don't think so. I can kill you with my brain too. It's genetic.
Please, for the love of the whatever you hold dear, stop calling an Abaddon "abba-dawn".-á It is "uh-bad-in" http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/abaddon |
