Expanding on a suggestion I made in a seperate thread I had the following idea:
Privateer Missions:
The Empire factions recognizing the great threat posed by the ever growing Pirate factions and rogue capsuleers have agreed to fund CONCORD approved covert missions into lightly or totally unregulated systems for intelligence gathering, black ops, resource gathering and similar missions. Depending on missions level (1-5) these objectives would always require travel to at least on sec level lower than that of the agent home station (hisec agent -> losec or lower missions, losec -> null or WH missions).
The missions can be of any existing type, including mining, exploration, combat, distribution. Rewards should reflect the risk involved in accomplishing the mission. As these are sponsored by CONCORD on behalf of the Empire factions the capsuleer can choose which faction to run missions for at the agent with level dependant on faction standings. These missions will always be against non Empire factions and as such would give pilots a means to repair standings on the basis of putting themselves in greater danger on behalf of the Empire factions.
Missions would be of single objective types or chained multi-step missions potentially involving more than one career path.
Mechanics:
Capsuleers accepting these missions will be cyno'd/bridged into the mission region by Empire/CONCORD agents and are then on their own. They must make their own way back to Empire space by any means they choose.
My hope would be that such missions could be used to expand the lore whilst enticing more players to venture into lower security areas. Acces to WH systems for missions would be via WH entrances guarded by faction vessels and intentionally crashed upon capsuleer fleet access to prevent any others from following. |

I can see some problematic areas that would need to be workd out if/when this idea was considered.
For now I like the basic premise of this and give it an enthusiastic +1 |

I think there are some good concepts to the idea, and some bad.
A bad one being, bridging or cynoing the pilots in. Let them fly out to the objective, and fly back. Let them learn about venturing out, and not just coming home.
A good one being introducing players to lower security areas.
I can see how you could work various missions into these, with fundamental differences. If the pay scale could be directly tied to the distance involved, as that is going to be a very large part of the difficulty, that wouldn't hurt.
Courier missions might involve flying out to deep null/low and picking up or dropping off an item with an agent that spawns in space for the mission.
Mining missions would give more use for the venture and prospect, for players that can already use exhumers.
Combat missions might involve flying out and eliminating one or more targets in spread out systems? Make them like faction warfare, where you can do them in assault frigs or interceptors? |

The idea of bridging/cyno pilots in is to encourage those who are initially concerned about running in through gatecamps to try out different areas. This could be restricted to lower level missions or only into losec space where the Empires still have nominal control. If you re running the higher level missions you will already need to know what you are doing and shouldn't need cyno/bridge access.
I'll edit the OP accordingly |
