Is it possible at all to invade one of the factions with a player alliance?. Yes, I realise the feasibility could be deemed nearly impossible, but I am asking about the actual practicality. CONCORD will surely mass up, but burn Jita showed a way around that, and sure, the stations will stay intact, but is it possible to deploy sovereignty structures and blockades? Do the factions use any sovereignty structures that could be destroyed? |

No it is not possible. In general terms the game can be divided in to 3 larger sections. Empire (highsec and lowsec), nullsec (0.0 space in known scape) and wormholes. Sov warfare of any kind is only available in nullsec. In other areas of space there are player groups who assert control on the area where they block gates and hunt down intruders, but there are no official mechanics to support those efforts. Lowsec has faction warfare that changes NPC control, but it still remains under the control of other NPC factions. In highsec CONCORD has such a strong presence, that open warfare is limited to wardecs between corporations. That means there is no feasible way to claim an area for yourself, but you can try deny that area to certain other player organizations. |

Nope, the sov structures don't do anything outside of k-space nullsec. You can't even online them in wormhole space, which is also considered nullsec.

No. You simply can't deploy SOV structures outside of SOV null-sec.
Hell, it isn't even possible in NPC null-sec.
And you kind of already could answer that yourself...
As if it was possible, people would have already done it.

Alright. Thanks peeps. I just wanted to double check. It's a pity really. It would be interesting to see player factions getting involved in large scale warfare against the Empires at some point. I just don't like how the map has some high-sec exclaves north and south of the galactic core. |

IIRC there is no exclave empire systems. All of empire is connected to each other.

You sure can try to claim one or more systems for yourself or your Alliance by trying to evict the current residents. Just wardec any Corps that operate in your claimed system and suicide gank anyone who is with an NP Corps.
And while warring against player Corps you might have some success, against NPC members you will run out of security status rather quickly, so your chances for success of claiming even one system are rather slim. Also, since stations are not claimable, the whole thing would be quite pointless.

I think if CCP annouced that in a Dev Blog, SOV Alliance members would hear it like this .........

Sovereignty in wormholes please.

Yes, absolutely.
Sov mechanics are like a piece of paper. Unless there are people with guns making sure that said piece of paper has legitimasy, said piece of paper is nothing more than what you use on the toilet. Pasta has shown that in the south.
Ownership is an illusion. One does not need game mechanics to rightfully call a spot of space his own. What matters is that the people who live there believe in it and defend it if necessary. Or you do it by yourself. In the end, it's purely psychological.
To quote Hargbard Celine... "Ownership if theft." If you own a farm on a piece of paper, but have slaves working there and never visit it, then the only thing that makes said farm actually yours is the law which protects your piece of paper.
It becomes worthless, as soon as there are more people with bigger guns who declare the paper invalid. |
