Hey guys, I am fairly new, quit about a year and a half ago ( have 1M skill points, basically still new character ) due to school coming up and I just didn't feel like playing EVE. I decided to come back a week ago and had some extra money left over so, I decided to buy and sell a PLEX...
My questions is, what should I do with the roughly ~800M? I don't want to spend it all at once ( since I still have no source of income yet ) and I want to spend it in a way that would benefit me, e.x. skill point training, buying ships / equipment to help me make money... etc. It's basically going to be my jump start into getting back into the game.
Thanks!!!!!!!!! |

Research basic PvP fits for frigates... buy a whole mass of them with the necessary fittings... have them moved to low-sec... shoot anything that moves and talk with the people who kill you (in a friendly way, ex: "How can I get better?").
Sooner or later you will be picked up by someone and taught how to make money and, in my opinion, really experience the game.
Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

And to add to what he said don't haul said frigs by yourself if you don't plan on basing from Jita. Use Red Frog or pushx to avoid silly things like hauling 400 mil in modules in an untanked t1 indy through rancer or something.

The first step is deciding on what you want to do in the game. I also wouldn't recommend buying a PLEX until you already know what you want to spend it on or you are inevitably going to waste at least some of it. |

I would strongly recommend that you spend it on skill books, and train as many and varied things as you can over the course of a few weeks, and I don't mean just ship skills, but some industry skills, science, leadership and anything else you might have an interest in.
I did this with this toon and one of my alts, I trained only to five when it was a prerequisite for something else and just kept going with each skill tree, now I haven't used half of those skills yet, I'm PvP centric for now so I'm currently fleshing out my t3 skills but should I decide to try industry or science I actually already have a lot of the skills minimally trained (and well trained in some cases).
My reasoning behind this is if I had tried to play the market I lickly would have lost it,if I spent it on ships I would have lost it it. however I still have those skills and I will continue to until the game dies or I stop playing.

Per above; Skillbooks and allowing you to not have to "slave" for your money, meaning you have time to find something enjoyable to do. Don't spend it on "fancy purplez" be it modules or ships. |

use the isk to get like a lot of fitted frigates

t2 fit frig can cost between approx 10 and 15 M isk i think. so ur money should last you a while |

You should be able to T2 fit a frig or even most destroyers for 10 to 15 mil. Skill up, buy a pile of them, fit them and pew pew pew!
I think you will find there is a *lot* of fun to be had on that road :-)
Good hunting!

I bought a Plex when I first started 2 months ago. Mostly it's still in my wallet. I use it to replace ships when need be and upgrade fits as my skills improve. I spent about 200 mill on a full set of high grade implants, another 100 mill on a new outfit (cause ugh, the base options are boring as hell) and that's about it. I figure it'll come in handy a bit later on when I get my hands on a jumpclone or two and head down to low/null to get blown up. :)

800m is a nice starting capital for a career in industry and/or trade. you would need roughly a week's worth of skills to be effective in either but if you are the kind of guy who enjoys being rich, there is always demand for 'explodables' (ships, modules, ammo etc.).
I should buy an Ishtar.

Must be emphasized, we wouldn't want the OP's stuff to end up in your 'hoard' now would we ?
OP, as others have said, I recommend getting a small stack of cheap frigates and going on an adventure through low and or nullsec. You'll likely die, but it's fun and teaches you valuable lessons for this game. At the very least it'll help you learn that losing a ship isn't the end of the world.
Your ships in EVE aren't like the Milenium Falcon or the Enterprise, they are tools, to be used, abused and chucked at other players faces at high speed. Consider every ship you buy dead from the second it's undocked. I can tell you, it makes the first time you come home with the same ship you undocked in after a long roam feel freaking amazing; and if you do lose it, so what?
The advice of "go and lose 10 frigates in lowsec" seems to be a classic. Having followed that advice I can confirm that it is awesome. One thing I would add though is that it helps a lot to be actively trying to get better while doing it, try and learn something from each loss (and victory?), and even better, read up before hand if you have the patience, there is a wealth of information in this forum, and on other websites. Also, as mentioned above, a polite "gf" in local and a question can get you a ton of good advice, even space buddies.
If after a loss or two you catch the pew pew bug...
This is the blog that helped me get into the lowsec groove: http://www.evealtruist.com/p/article-index.html
Start with the newbie articles and branch out as needed, take it slowly, there's a lot of stuff to absorb.

Hi David.
If you need to ask what to spend it on, then you are not ready to spend it, in my opinion.
Just sit on it and buy what you need as you become more familiar with the game. All buying a bunch of stuff on others people's advice will do is give you stuff that suits how they play, not how you play. Don't be in a rush to be broke and wondering how it happened.
That said, and as mentioned above, you can't go wrong buying things that you won't lose. Like skills.

Skills, skills and more skills.
After that it completely depends on what you are going to do in eve.
If you are going into business then use isk to buy a hauler maybe, invest in stuff and sell stuff, seed money to start a production run. maybe buy BPC or BPO.
If you going into exploration then you will need isk to fit out a proper ship and money to replace said ship when you lose it .. maybe have 2-3 spares all fit up and read to go.
If you are going to pvp .. then either do as mentioned or join one of the noob friendly corps that do pvp - and buy 10-20 frigs etc..
If you are going into mining then use the isk + skills to get into the right ship(s).
Really depends on what you want to do - but skills are on the only non business thing you can really invest in. everything esle is just tools .. but having the isk to buy the tools you need will make life alot easier.

Try everything - then do what you like to do. Dont buy plex as a newbee - it encourages you to buy expensive ships and mods which will be destroyed in short order.
Now if I were you (meaning that your "likes" are the same as "mine") , I would train into a basic mission ship aiming for t2 fittings, while also getting cruiser pvp combat skills up to snuff. Then when I had done that, I would leave empire and go to lowsec and have some fun.
I don't play, I just fourm warrior.

Since this is your second go at Eve what about joining a group like Eve University, Brave or some other new player friendly group? A lot of them will give you free skill books and rookie ships and will help you learn where you want to spend your isk. Just don't use your isk to buy into a group -- that would likely be a scam.
