I propose that all pilots have access to a "Poison Pill" option,
Properties: If their ship is destroyed when the "Poison Pill" is enabled their pod(and any implants) will also be instantly destroyed with the ship as if the agressing pilots had targeted and killed the pod. The state of the "Poison Pill" is not visible to other pilots. Existing bounty pay outs, loot drops, and kill right rules are not affected. When enabled the pod will be destroyed if the ship is killed by any means including self-destruct, NPC's, Faction Police, gate guns, or Concord. Conditions: Can only be enabled/disabled when in station. Only works in high sec. Pilot must be in the ship when it is destroyed. Ejecting from a damaged ship will prevent the "Poison Pill" from activating when the ship is destroyed. Reset to off when a clone is activated. Side effects: The security status penalty and kill rights applied to agressing pilots will be the same as if they killed the ship and pod unless the ship can be killed without a security penalty then the pod is considered to have self-destructed. Reason for enhancing game play: Element of risk for agressing pilots, will they loose 2.5% or 27.5% security status for this gank. Pilots sensing a pending gank can announce that they have an active "Poison Pill" giving the gankers a reason to reconsider their actions. Non-Combat high sec pilots will no longer have their ships killed 8-10 times by the same pilots before those pilots are relegated to low sec. Balance: "Poison Pill" pilot will loose pod and any implants in exchange for higher security status penalty applied to agressing pilots. No effect on the ability to suicide gank a high sec ship or pilot. No effect on low sec, WH, or null sec game play. Options:1 Works as a instant self-destruct in WH, low and null sec with no security penalty or kill mail for the pod kill to agressing pilots and kill rights will not be given in low sec.

Seeing as most suicide gankers are -10 already, I think this is pointless. Other than removing a KM, but that seems futile.
So why would CCP waste their time on it?

why are you giving up any chance of clearing the pod? After a few kills most tend to get better success rates at this. Or you just write if off as oh well.
Also not seeing the non-combat pilots getting killed 8-10 times.....they may need to consider changing their hauling routes. Dying several times in say niarja, to me that says find a route not going through that system. Miners need to move to better systems if this bad. well that and I'd be wondering why the gank crew is this focused on me/my corp. Usually when this happens as I have seen it some trash talking involved. Moron shoots mouth off in local and gank crews say oh...really basically and takes a high interest in making them eat those words. |

I think you are putting too much faith in the idea that people care about their security status.
Suicide Gankers generally do not care if they go down to -10. In fact... it is a point of pride for them.
And yes, you can still operate in high-sec with terrible security status... it simply becomes more difficult.
Overall... I don't really see the point behind this idea. It won't affect wardecs (because wardecs basically bypass security status)... it just makes death more expensive for the person taking the "Poison Pill" (unless they WANT to be podded in the first place)... and it won't stop people from ganking (or even hesitate to gank).
Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

as a ganker i would use this pill when concord kills me the pod goes boom as well, sounds like a quick way to get back to station and reship for the next gank.
personally i wouldn't mind a pill that disables the self destruct timer so my pod blows up instantly waiting 2 mins for pod express suks |

Current Security Status Losses are negligible for ship kills in high sec.
0 to -2.0 security status takes at least 9 ship kills in high sec. 0 to -5.0 security status takes at least 27 ship kills in high sec.
Raising security by 0.5 points with tags costs around 15-20M in Jita (4 to 5M per additional high sec ship kill)
Killing a ship and a Pod result in the following security losses:
0 to -2.0 security status takes 2 ship and pod kills in high sec. 0 to -5.0 security status takes 5 ship and pod kills in high sec.
(This is not personal, I have never been ganked in high sec) |

okay...but why are you cutting off your nose to spite your face? In time you are adding cost to the deaths. I am guessing this sounds great if low sp. One day you will have higher clone costs though. Higher the cost and that's more tacked on to the loss.
that's med clone costs that add up over time. And for the one ganker you send to low sec faster....someone will take their place. It may even be another dessi gank alt they have been raising on the same account lol
Then you have the very common ways people pimp their clones, even if just for pve.
Not seeing mission runners use this for sure. My pve clones tend to run hardwire and set implants, as do many others. To put into perspective....if ganked in a rattler t2 fit, I am more concerned about my clone than the ship. My clone is worth more isk,
Miners can be the same with processing implants, foreman mindlink or even +4/5's.
I could be nitpicky and say if dedicated to hauling ascendency nice to have as well to trim travel times.
And you have to consider your average suicide ganker can make several throwaway chars. You trash the standing in one....up comes the next dessi gank char. This sec hit is not the best solution really. All you are doing here is making sure the gankers want that kill more.
To give them happy thoughts of tears as they run loops in low sec and 0.0 to fix the sec standing later if not opting to buy tags. They will get those tears too....it can suck popping one bs per system per 15 minutes for days on end in a torp spec bomber (well bombers like by those I know who fixed sec status many a time) so they need all the motivation they can get.

Ah ok.
Well anyways - I think it could be interesting...the name "poison pill" seemed a bit misleading but I get the gist of what you're saying. However - in order for this to be viable, anyone being ganked would have to lose something of value in exchange for the damage they cause to the gankers sec. status.
For example - the thing (whatever it is) could cost say 25mil, so that those you need to spend that isk in order to have the retaliation. Or, since your pod is guaranteed to die when you get ganked with this thing in, you could be required to have implants in all slots.
However - the fatal flaw I see with this is that for highsec gankers, -10.0 sec status is the goal, not the punishment |
