No it is not !
A ship in motion that is halted to a full stop that pulls itself down horizontally is a constant reminder of that fact, I guess even in a spacegame we can't escape gravity.
Is this news ?
No it is not.
However when one invents such one-liners like "EVE is real" it does make people look more closely to what you are putting out there.
Now lets get one thing straight, EVE is top notch between all the space games out there, but being satisfied with what you have allready created has never helped progress. In that regard EVE is in constant change and I am good with that.
then why am I writing this ?
because of the type of changes and their not well tought through effects on EVE universe.
My concerns are no different than anyone out there that plays this game.
I think we can all agree that when you are making changes to the game it should be a change that people were longing for and resolves issues, that only effect and bring resolve to that issue alone, not create more issues.
In my experience that is not the case, the devs seem to be in a never ending struggle to balance the game, so when you get on-line after an expansion you can find that you have stuff missing, like prints that you researched to be gone or ships that are now suddenly missing a slot or wh mechanics that are suddenly changed, what these at most will harm is you prolly ending up loosing your ship and then suddenly you are aware, so they dont pose much problems, we deal with them.
when you claim that EVE is real or is at least close to real then you can understand that rebalancing is what a 6 year old kid would invent to win the game, it has absolutely nothing to do with "real" In the real world it doesnt work like that and never will.
It would be like my car manufacturer saying "sorry sir, we think your car is too overpowered, we gonna take it back and give you another one that is less powered"
crazy right ? but like I said we all gotten used to it, and personally I dont think about it anymore, we just deal with the consequences.
However....
What I cannot get over is the effect of changes on the EVE economy.
you see, anything that would upset the markets that makes stuff more or less valuable does have a bigger impact than loosing a ship, or any other silly thing we are forced to do, to accomodate the rebalance fury of the devs.
if you are a big corp/alliance or simply someone that has a lot of assets or isk, the effects of these changes can really hurt you.
you are then looking at billions and billions of losses in a single day simply because soemone at EVE HQ thought it would be a good idea to introduce something to the market without fully calculating its effects.
simpest example is maybe someone trading in implants and CCP suddenly decides to give away those implants for free, this type of things will simply ruin your game. Maybe more recent the erratic behaviour of fuel prices, imagine that you are a big alliance that uses up trillions worth of fuel per year, the potential losses could pretty much criple your operations.
The outcome of this goes beyond the fact that people are loosing value in isk or assets, the more serious effect of this is that people in general will loose confidence in the economy, you dont have to be a wizard to understand what the outcome of that will be.
people will either pull out of the market, sell their stuff and invest in more solid assets like PLEX, which will drive PLEX prices up and all of the rest will go down, dont get me wrong large corps will still need their reserves and immediate assets for operational purposes but other than that, all the isk will be pulled out of the market to be parked in safe havens.
People will still invest and trade, but it will be short term egagements and after that pull their profit out and again put it on safe, noone will keep large stocks anymore, it will be all about making a quick profit, in a very volatile market. In this situation all people will be doing is to try and counter the effects of devaluation of assets, reserves and isk.
in the real world we call that causing a crises due to incompetent governening, if EVE had a minister of Economy he would have lost his job long time ago, if not shot to serve as an example.
CCCP boasts that EVE economy is something that is player-driven and self-regulating, things cannot be more further than the truth, not with all the constant external intervention, and as any economy that is subject to these outside influences it will react and often not in a way that will give people confidence.
yes I said CCCP, cause lets face it, our comrades at CCP headquarters are communists, since we established that EVE although it appears to have a capitalist system but in fact is a planned economy with some really incompetent governers.
now tell me again that EVE is real.

At the end of the day, you should understand that MMO without new content or content drivers become stale MMO which become dead MMO. Dead MMO mean no more $$$ for CCP so they will do what they believe is right for the game even if it mean creating/destroying niche on the market. People get burned by patches/dev blogs/whatever but at the end of the day, the health of the game matter much more than the arbitrary value of your asset list and wallet. |

I feel like I should be writing a scathing, and slightly trollish, response to the OP, but honestly, my eyes glazed over halfway through and I went looking for a tl;dr.
I didn't find one, so I'm sort of at a loss at the moment.
Can someone provide a 50 word or less summary of the OP?

Bring your own hotplate or cook your bacon in the microwave in the break room. It makes them especially pissy, and you stand a good chance of locating any vegans that are presently unknown to you because the smell tends to persist the rest of the day, they'll eventually crack...

Sooooooo, (here comes the maths) 6*5+4= Op got boned on the eve market when CCP changed something. The other 887 words were just thrown in for content filler. |
