I've been doing Level 4 missions operating in a 0.8 high-sec system for a few weeks. Orbiting the station I base out of are two Orcas. They never go anywhere - just stay in orbit - and are there all the time. I scanned them. One has no cargo. The other has a Hulk, Covetor, and various mining crystals. Both have Tech 2 tanking. One pilot goes back to 2007. The other to only this year. Both are currently in NPCs. Other than these two, the station is rarely visited.
If interested in visiting them and checking them out yourself for a potential gank, message me and I will provide you the station location. I'm just tired of seeing the Orcas loitering around the station like nothing could ever happen in a 0.8 system. All I ask in return is a message of how it went down and what the total value of the kill was.
I'm not a ganker, so not interested in the kill myself. But certainly can appreciate those who remind others that EVE is not a quiet place to loiter in, even in hi-sec.

The reason those 2 orcas sit around that station is so they can dock up as soon as somebody looks at them funny, itll take a pretty dedicated fleet of bumpers and talos to get rid of them.
Im not saying its impossible, its just the game mechanics make it as close as impossible to bring the pew pew to those who deserve it like this. |

Plus, being a 0.8, CONCORD response times (and the station guns) will make it fairly difficult to blap them.
Not impossible...just difficult.
Now, if they are supa-hard AFK...and this might just be the case..........getting a dedicated bumping crew to knock them 500 + klicks off the station could definitely change the equation....:)
Everything in EVE is a trap.

These two are definitely AFK. I've been operating out of this station for about three weeks. The Orcas are doing nothing but orbiting. No other mining barges show up to join them. It's just these two.

That's the problem - they aren't touching me or anyone else. Hoping someone or some group will reach out and touch them.

What i don't like about this behavior is that they can give a mining boost while staying close enough to a Station to dock. This shouldn't be allowed. I use my orca for boost and hauling. Thats the orca's role. So i have to jump to the station and dock every 30 min. Also i have 2 Skiffs on board, so i can replace my hulks with them in case of trouble. Thats what i call mining. But every type of playing is allowed. So, who cares?! |

Orcas can fit three mindlinks at the same time, and if memory serves, there is no restriction that they be mining mindlinks only. Is it possible that they are boosting others also running level 4 missions? I am not skilled to provide boosts, but would an orca cost less than the appropriate combat ships also capable of three mindlinks? Just offering a possible explanation as to WHY they are there. |

Orca however only provides boost to mining links.
A Command ship hurtling away from everything at 600m/s, not aligned with any celestials 3AU out of any nearest object is way harder to find and gank as far as boosting for Level 4's goes. Not impossible, but harder.

OP, what links are they using. You might try pushing one yourself far from the station. Doesn't require a gank, but will make him realize he's not completely safe.

I recommend the OP uses these Orcas as bumping practice.
Bumping is quite challenging to learn, but a large target that isn't actively trying to evade you is a good starting point for learning. A cheap oversized MWD stabber works wonders.
You should lay claim to the system and consider offering the pilots the option of purchasing a permit to continue boosting there. As this would be your permission they would be buying, you can impose whatever other conditions you deem fit.
Ganking doesn't need a purpose, the gank is its own purpose.
You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don't ask why I gank.

Orcas are very effective at boosting Level 4 Mining Missions AFK although in an 0.8 system they will get less rewards than a 0.5 system (although that depends on the corp LP store). |

Two ORCAS with no mining permits. CODE has a job to do per their manifesto. I don't see anything from James saying I have to pay them to do it.

The reason they are there are probably boosting some miner, i dont know the system if it has belts or not, but thats the idea. In the case of NPC boosters you could claim the same about incursion runners that either have a booster orbit station or run a straight line at 1500+m/s

As someone with a fair bit of experience with orca mining ops, I can confidently say that no, siege warfare links are very rare. They are not part of the standard mining orca fit. |

No need to re-read it. I've read it. Nothing in the FAQ about me having to pay CODE to take out two ORCAS that don't have mining permits. Now if CODE doesn't want to do it, that's their choice.
