Armortank, and fit both with a remote armor repairer, so that they can repair each other.
Look up 'spidertanking'. |

Depends where you are. If you are in somewhere like branch, you can easily shield tank a dominix with 3 mid slots and a damage control, leaving a ton of free lows for drone damage amps and omni tracking enhancers, while getting more agility to go between sites faster, and bug out faster if hostiles show up. Same for angel space. vs drones or sansha/blood though, shield is a little more difficult to make work.
Shield = more dps, more agility, clear sites faster, make more isk Armor = potentially bigger tank, more buffer |

Short answer, depends where you are ratting.
It really depends where you are. Fighting Guristas/Angels means you get to use the godly Federation Faction Bouncers who have a falloff of 48km. This means that with skill Drone Sharpshooting level 4 you get to hit 100% of the time between 50km and 98km. No need for tracking mods if you warp in at 70km, so more slots available for medium, which means more shield tank mods.
Angels also do explosive mainly, which is easy to tank with shields, very easy.
Blood raiders is the other end of the spectrum. Here you need to tank against EM and the sentry drones you will be using are curators. Shields are inherently weak against EM and you need to focus more on mid slot usage to tank against it in shields. Also, the Curators are some of the worst sentry drones you can get, their falloff is 12km as opposed to the 48km the Bouncers had.`
This means that you hit 100% of the time at 50km with skill 4 in Sharpshooting BUT you miss half the time between 50-62km and miss ALL the time from 62km on. This means that you need to use tracking links in your mid slot to make it work, which means at least 2 mid slots are gone.
Already your shields are under pressure minus 2 shield slots, means shield tanking becomes almost impossible against 3 or more Blood Raider battleships.
So that is why you need to look at armour tanking for Blood Raiders.
Armor has a big bonus resists to EM damage, which makes it more attractive.

As said, depends on what sites you running, I used to use a shield tanked domi with a large SB for forsaken hubs and it was a beast with 4 x DDA's... more input!!!

Wait, you are saying you fly 2x Dominix from belt to belt to shoot three NPC's?
Anyway, if one of those happen to have the name of a purple module, you might want to reconsider your ship choice.

While the damage/resist types are right, this post has much misinformation regarding how optimal/falloff ranges work. Do a quick search on evelopedia or eve uni about how ranges work. |
