Sometimes, a man just has to swallow his pride and admit that he doesn't know something that he really should know.
Sadly for my E-honour, now is one of those times.
How does one search for and activate kill rights that aren't yours? I have found my own kill rights (kill rights against me, or ones that I have against others) and even listed some of them for sale (which always makes me chuckle, given the sec status of the pilots), but I've never had to find/activate them when they belong to other players. I've never had to do this before, but an interesting employment opportunity has arisen that may require me to.
Help a brigand out?

Well if a dude is on grid with you and has a KR you can activate that by clicking the crosshair icon next to his name. |

It should be noted as long as you click on them while they are on grid and as long as they remain the selected item (don't select anything else) the kill rights can still be activated even if they warp off as long as they are in the same system. This comes in handy if you see them with a scout and are not sure if you will be able to get your DPS into position in time and don't want them to know they are being hunted. It is also nice if you know your DPS is in postiion, the scout can activate them right before the target lands on grid which is two less clicks for the DPS to perform before it can engage.

EvElopedia containing useful information on current game mechanics? What manner of sorcery is this?!?!?
Kidding aside, thanks for the info folks. It should make life a bit more interesting for me.

In case it wasn't clear, the crosshair icon is in your "Selected Item" window when you select the person on your overview. If there is no KR, there is no crosshair icon. You can probably find someone baiting with a billion ISK KR on the Jita 4-4 undock for an example.

Funny story: I once derped during Burn Jita and shot at a Suspect while in heavy Tidi. By the time I had lock (with pre-activated mods) his timer expired and I got CONCORDOKKEN!!! and promptly podded by the entire grid...
Well played!
The KR set for me was worth a whopping 100m ISK some other guy derping in his HAM Drake took, when I exited my usualy lowsec haunt in an arty Cane...
Well played indeed! |

Safeties on YELLOW, guys. Always yellow in high sec, unless you actually intend to suicide gank someone in the next minute or so.

Get a Char on one side with heavy dps and a heavy interdictor on the other. click on targets coming to you to see if they have a crosshair before they jump. If its worth it hit activate and jump through.
Heavy interdictor would have caught the said fellow on the other side and both of you engage. Kinda fails sometimes though especially when you see a bhargest with 0 KR and you activate and both you engage and the bugger makes it back to the gate. |

I have this set to red by default, the security settings were added after I started playing the game. Nowadays I still feel it's a good idea, because it forces me to keep thinking about the consequences of my actions. Mostly operating in lowsec, red settings are required for ransoms and podkills. I have lost 2 (combat) ships in my Eve carreer by screwing up in hisec, but the remedy for a pilot of my player age should be "don't pick stupid fights in hisec". Fly safe(ties off)! |

When you're participating in a hisec POS bash/defense and the field is split evenly between friendlies, war targets, suspects, and neutrals, yellow safety is your friend.

There are ways of dying hilariously even with safeties set to yellow. For instance it turns out that if your missiles are in flight when your limited engagement timer expires, there's nothing you can do except wait for concorde.
