Hi everyone!
Remember EVE-Central? The tool that first launched when you exported market data using the "Export to File" button, but has been chugging along (mostly) reliably since those dark days?
Well, I am "bringing back the fire" to the project, and upping my contribution. EVE-Central is still an invaluable resource in the EVE economic arena, but it can be so much better.
Currently, the following projects are under way:
- Facelift: There is some advantage from moving from Web 1.0 to the future, and that is a better UI experience (also, accepting contributions for Logo redesign)
- Contribtastic improvements: This program has been long neglected, and while a large number of you use it successfully, it needs some serious refinement. Streamlining, adding first class Mac support, supporting multiple clients, historical data, and more.
- Core technology: The uploader acceptance system is getting an overhaul, in the name of better statistics and error rejection.
- New features: Hangar sells, API integration, and more.
Watch the development blog (or here) for more information as it becomes available. |

Contribtastic is now updated to 2.0.3, and should be far more reliable than the past.

It should be feeding e-mail.
You may want to check your mailing list subscription, as any bounce will make it very angry.
In the long run, I am moving away from the e-mail feed and towards pushed HTTP (the whole syndicate and common format discussion in that other thread). Creator of EVE-Central.com, the longest running EVE Market Aggregator |

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on various happenings:
New Server
The new server is "in" (not "in" the datacenter), just collecting a few remaining pieces (such as another 32GB of RAM). This is a much faster I/O, 12-core pizzabox. It really lets me do a lot more with the site.
Site Look & Feel Redesign
I started a base template borrowed heavily from Bootstrap, modified quite a bit. No other pages are redesigned yet, but thats coming.
Due to how various third party internet things work, a true single page interface isn't quite viable yet. However, pages such as the market browser and trade finder will support a more efficient filtering and loading mechanism. I haven't picked the client side stack yet, but looking at Ember.js
Site Backend, API
Most the prototype work is going on here. In fact, the entire architecture has shifted from the original, and not much remains the same (the only real constant is the database, for now).
I am going to make a bigger blog post about this, but the tl;dr version:
- Scala
- Akka
- spray-server, spray-can
- PostgreSQL
Uploader
The upload client now supports multiple EVE clients and automagically configures its self. No build available yet - needs a bit more testing. Stay tuned. Creator of EVE-Central.com, the longest running EVE Market Aggregator |

What are you going to use that monstrous amount of power for? :P EMK currently runs on about 4 times less, and it's not even at 10 percent load yet
But otherwise, great job! I'm still trying to find a way to get EC running on my windows desktop, so I can follow the progress :) Developer/Creator of EVE Marketeer

The EC server currently is quite busy due to the "large" amount of API traffic it gets (over a million requests per day just looking at it since Jan 1). This is on an older, 4-core, 10GB, mirrored SATA drive machine.
CPU wise it gets enough load to make peak times noticeable. I don't like that :) Creator of EVE-Central.com, the longest running EVE Market Aggregator |

Ah yes, I can see where that would start to become a problem :P EMK has had about half as many API requests in it's entire lifetime ;) Developer/Creator of EVE Marketeer

EVE-Central is now using the new server just for database requests. During peak times, queries should be significantly faster. All of the old code is still running.
I will be running a beta-test for the new API backend in about a week - stay tuned for details!

When we use the xml api what would be the best ratio of items / import? I have a spreadsheet that needs info on about 120+ items and I've always wondered how to setup the imports so it does the least impact on your servers to prevent getting "data could not be retrieved" errors. |

I suggest 20 for statistics only calls, 5 for full order lists.
Also, avoid making more than about 2 requests per second or you may run into the rate limiter. Creator of EVE-Central.com, the longest running EVE Market Aggregator |

I'm fairly certain google docs will never reach the limit, as it caches every page you request for an unknown span of time (a few hours probably). Developer/Creator of EVE Marketeer

Some updates:
- API calls are now routed to another server and hosted by the new server stack. If you have any odd issues, please let me know ASAP.
- The E-mail push service will gain a generatedAt field trailing all other fields, such inclusion in EMDR.
- The new unified uploader API is undergoing testing to use with third party clients. If you are currently uploading to EVE-Central, and would like to test the new API, please let me know.

Do we target the same gateway? Could it be possible to make it accept compressed data?
I want to help you test by pointing the EMUU at you.
Edit: Currently while uploading to EC using UF I get an empty string response. It would be useful if that could return a text if it's an error or "1" if the upload succeeded. I suggest "1" as it can easily be converted to a boolean that represents the "True" value and sticks with the way other servers, that receive data, have already implemented. |
