Yep, I am new to Eve. The complexity of all is daunting. My reasons to try it are pretty straight forward:
1) It looks supremely cool 2) It is a different genre than what I have played before (It has space ships) 3) It's complex-the complexity I felt would keep away most of the rif raf and should yield a more mature player base (I.E. Over 30 yrs old)
I started with a free trial, but I need to train skills to make use of the cooler stuff in game and skill training takes time so I decided to plunk down a bit of cash for a 3 month sub. By then I'll have a good idea if I wish to spend more time playing.
I have been perusing the forums daily and have found a lot of great content, explanations, and advice. I have also seen a lot of nubs posting and have chuckled quite a bit.
EXAMPLES PARAPHRASED:
1: Players don't leave Hi sec cuz we kill them and they don't want to die. That makes them crap players so they deserve to die.
2: Players don't leave Hi sec cuz they are crybabies! (wait..what?? this one really made me laugh)
3: Don't change the mechanics that allow us to kill in hi sec. If we can't kill the naive, new and unskilled (which makes them leave game permanently) it will break the game!
4: (duel gone bad)--If you play eve don't trust anybody and kill everybody! (yea that statement REALLY makes me feel I can have fun--not)
Now seriously if a 9 year old character asks me to fight him, I'm going to ask myself "why would this be a good idea? His skills are uber by now. Ship is uber. It would be like stepping on an ant. I will never catch him in skill power-so the answer is HA! HA! HA!... NO!)
4B: Yea don't trust anybody but trust me when I say if you go to low sec / 0 sec you will have a good time. (Hmmmmm)
Now there seems to be a lot of sentiment about EVE needing new blood. Dieing and so forth. Some of it from the same nubs griefing Hi sec'rs.
Here are a few things that will make me quit, which probably will increase as I learn more of the game-take it for what it's worth.
Training--after the first 3 months any useful training you need for your choice of path begins to become horrendously time consuming.
Chat--constant isk selling and stupid raffles websites.
Forced actions--Any existing or future changes that would force me to have to do something I don't wish to do. Such as leave Hi sec before I am ready to if I ever decide to in the first place.
Not being able to catch older characters in skill level-allowing for a more or less even match up.
Scamming and out of context aggression such as suicide ganking. (yea way to help the new people stick around)
It's amazing the amount of pimply faced, over weight, sociopaths in online gaming today. Sure the internet makes you almost anonymous so certain people shut off their filters and say or do something here that would result in them receiving extreme personal pain and injury in real life. Freud would have a field day with a lot of the people in this game--no that's not a compliment.
I will remain in hi sec for the foreseeable future for the following 2 reasons.:
It will allow me to learn the game at my own pace in peace and relative safety. It will allow me to train up my skills until i feel i can encounter more risky adventures.
I will never get anywhere near the skill level of a multi-year player-not even gonna try. So why would I pit myself against them ship to ship at this time? No fun in that.
Some game mechanics changes that would make new people stick around.
No pod kills in Hi sec 05-1.0
Wars, revenge kills and duels would be the only PVP allowed in hi sec
Duels -have a choice to fight to the death or to structure. If to the death and you can do it a pod kill is fine.
Lessen some of time it takes to train some of the higher level skills.
Short cuts to the more populated systems.
Autopilot -choice to have it warp to zero or not.
War dec hi sec corps is fine but if no hi sec corp member is killed in the first 24 hours the dec is cancelled. Hi sec corp can only be war dec'd once every 30 days.
For a price add teleportation of goods between up to 3 Hi sec 8-1.0 stations of you choice.
You want to murder someone do it in 0 sec - that's why there is 0 sec.
Now I am sure some of the nubs are red faced and puffy right now. Probably didn't even read the whole post. So...save your text and effort. I have no interest in the meaningless ramble your fingers are itching to spout.
Take 3 deep breaths, do a little mining, check your skill tree, watch something on Netflix or maybe even get out of the house-you haven't showered for a week now.

If and when you have a serious and well worded proposal for the betterment of EvE, please feel free to post it in the Features & Ideas Discussion part of the forum.
