I couldn't find anywhere any threads about this, and the lack of them seems to indicate it might be a feature rather than an issue, but still, here goes...
1. The only moment I get positive "derived standings" is whenever I complete a "storyline" mission, and therefore I only ever get any derived standings for factions. 2. I keep getting negative faction/corp standings for "ship kills" in missions, yet I never seem to get negative standings with any pirate faction when killing belt spawns (even if larger as the ships I kill in missions). 3. I never get positive derived standings for REGULAR missions (for instance, you'd expect missions for Ishukone Watch to get your standings up with Ishukone, no?) and I never get positive standings for ship kills in missions (for the "declared enemies" of those I killed).
In other words, the standings just keep going unavoidably down overall until you hit the "point of no return" (and then you no longer care), as there seems to be no comprehensible "balance" between positive and negative normal+derived standings, and there is no "positive feedback" whatsoever for friendly corps in regular missions.
Is that intended or a huge oversight ? And if it's intended... WHY is it intended like that ? __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

With all the "server down" madness (which I hope subsided already), the thread got to the nth page :( So, -cough- bump ? ;) __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

1. Correct. You get positive standings with the storyline's faction, derived positive standings with "allies" of this faction, and derived negative standings with the "enemies" of this faction.
2. This may vary. You may get negative standings with the faction or corp of ships killed, or not at all. Some missions where you kill faction ships, for example Unauthorized Military Presence, do not result in negative standings with the faction or corp.
3. No, and that is unfortunate. The positive standings to faction you get come only after you get a storyline.

Yep. Only by doing missions you get positive standings to corp, and only doing storylines do you get positive standings to faction. And derived standings thereof.
Why? Hell if I know. Juggling standings is the most mind-boggling and annoying part of the mission system...

And let me guess... once you hit -5 *base* standing just for running missions, you can never enter "enemy" empire space without being shot on sight by the gate guns (and non-concord patrool ships only?)... and you don't even get access to Level 1 Quality -20 agents (you need -2.00 effective, with diplomacy L5 that's exactly for -5 base standing), and the ONLY way you could EVER climb back up is storyline missions to friendlies of that faction (which would decrease standings with your "original" good standings empire)... bleah.
Or is there something I'm missing here ? Like, maybe it's not so bad to run around gallente space with -5.1 base vs gallente ? Or are there other (direct) ways to increase standings but not decrease (in total) so much with others ?
It just seems creepy that "lowsec" people could redeem themselves by cleaning out some belts of NPC pirates, yet mission runners get effectively shut down forever from certain areas of the game... __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

Don't quote me on this, because I've never experienced it personally. But I believe gate guns and stations do not open fire on you if you have -5 to faction or corp. You are even allowed to dock to NPC stations.
What happens is that faction navy ships will open fire on you. I've heard it's not that bad, more annoying than anything.
The work-around is to fly around in a shuttle or pod. They leave you alone then.

You are mixing two things here, security status vs faction/corp standings. And in fact security status = CONCORD standing for now. There are no CONCORD/DED missions, so it's a different system. All you need to do to get +standing with CONCORD is kill rats. No storylines.

Doing missions for SOE (Sisters Of Eve) may still get you some interesting derived faction increases.

slightly off topic: - can one actually become -5 with diplomacy V? - does the broker fee depend on faction~ or npc-corp standing?

AFAIK:
Diplomacy gives Level*0.04*(10-standing). So L5 diplomacy with -10.0 standing means an effective -6.0 standing (+4 mod), -5.0 standing means effective -2.0 (+3 mod)
Broker fee depends on effective standing with owner (NPC corp) of station. __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

hmm. so if i got -8.25 guristas faction, if i get diplomacy L5 i still wouldn't be able to do missions for them. none of the factions, i got diplomacy to L4 and i increased factioin to -5.53 but i need at least -2.0 for a lousy lvl 1 -20Q agent for guristas.
my question would be. how can i increase my faction? i tried killing caldari/amarr faction NPCs but to no luck.
i know this was a little off topic and i am sorry but i tried the GMs with this question and they never replied back (it's been 6 months or more). lol.
thanx. |

Yep, you need -4.9(999) *and* diplomacy L5 to be able to do ANY missions for a certain faction's agents, as a bare minimum.
Go below -5.0 and you can only go back to doing any missions for them by doing STORYLINE ("important") missions for *their* FRIENDLY factions... in the process lowering your faction standings with almost everybody else you had good standings with, heh. Not to mention, it might take forever anyway, that is if you CAN run any missions for "friends of foes" in the first place.
I was sincerely hoping that was an issue/omission, but now I'm almost certain it's a feature :( __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |
