Hey guys. Back in 2009/10 I stopped playing EVE online. I had been playing seriously for maybe a little under a year. The other day I decided to return and use my trial and am looking to get back into the game....
However I am overwhelmed since it has been so long and I was looking for advice on what I should do, as I have a number of assets including a Drake battlecruiser and some mining barges. The game has had a few changes and what I'm wondering is, is it worth me persevering and trying to relearn the game on an old toon, or would people advise setting up a new character from scratch and turning my assets into cash to help me along? I'm leaning towards the second option but I thought getting a second opinion might help.
Cheers. |

definitely Redo the tutorials but there's no reason for a new toon...unless you want to.
Welcome back.

Welcome home!
No need to start a new character. There's no such thing as wasted skill points. All the core skills you trained previously (hopefully ) will open up options for you much quicker than starting a new character.
Much has changed though. Almost all the ships in the game have gone through a re-balance or two. They've done a pretty good job though and the pool of "useful ships" is larger than ever, most ships being able to fill at least one niche quite effectively.
There's no reason you can't liquidate your assets and "start from scratch" on this character if you want to cross-train into a new race for example. Then if you ever feel like pulling out a drake again you'll already have the skills for it.

never start a new character .. there is no reason to do it - you might as well take advantage of the skills you already have .. even if you dont know what you want to do .. where you want to do it .. there is no reason to waste what you have already learned. complete waste to start over again in eve .. as its not a theme park .. you dont need to go back to the begining to get on the ride again .. its sandbox so you just go from where you are.
redo the tutorials .. if you cant figure out how - google it
then do the Sisters of Eve Epic quest.. - if you dont know how to start it - google it.
then join a corp ..
History is the study of change.

Thanks for all your quick replies! From whats been said I'm definitely keeping the character and skills. In terms of my assets I'm thinking sell most of them then redo the tutorials as I'm even less knowledgable than I thought I'd be! |

There's little point to ditch the character especially if it has more then 20mil in SP.
So first thing to do is to keep your stuff as well since missions haven't changed a one bit except for those new burner missions which you can safely decline. So do those new tutorials and then head to arnon for epic arc and see where you want to go from there, I would recommend staying high/low sec for now though since null is in turmoil with all the capital changes and it's hard to say anything until dust settles. |

Redo the tutorial (either with your old character or a completely new one).
But after that, keep your old one. It will have "must have" skills trained that you would have to train on your new character any way, so why "waste" that skilltime..

I'm trying to start the tutorial again on my old character but I can't find Aura on the agents tab on the left in my current station. Will I have to access a particular tutorial station to access her? |

there are two somewhat understandable reasons for ditching a character: - it has too much SP and clone upgrades get too expensive (only relevant if you have a LOT of SP and die very often) - you are dissatisfied with the character's looks, name or other 'superficial' reasons
if none of those apply to you, you should keep the character. also, there is also always the possibility of training an alt while you still play your main.

To access Tutorials, open up Eve Help (F12 key) - 'Tutorials' tab - select the appropriate category.
Depending on which one you select, you might have to relocate to a starter system in order to continue. You'll definitely have to relocate to one of the Career Agent systems if you choose to do their mission series. I highly recommend doing all 5 Career Agents since they will help reacquaint you with basic game mechanics.
After completing the Career Agents, hopefully all your Empire Factions are above -5.00 standing. If so then do as others have suggested and complete the level 1 Sisters Of Eve Epic Arc. That will allow you time to decide what you want to pursue and get you use to everything that's changed.
Now if some of your Empire Factions are -5.00 or lower standing, then I suggest taking a look at 'The Plan'.
Good luck and much success to you.

Career Agent solar systems, each agent can only be used once, but there are multiple agents for each faction, you can also do them for all 4 factions if you wish.
