In a player-driven game like EVE, the ability to defend what you have from other players is of vital importance, regardless of the security of space you're in. Your options for playing EVE involve learning to defend it, or letting other players walk all over you.

Sounds like you're just not into it.... why do it?
I really like PVP in other games, just not EVE PVP and as a result only play the game an hour or so after work, since it's better than watching my wife's HGTV over and over.... but I love her.
I like balance and PVP in this game just doesn't have it for this part time player.
Find a corp of like minded players and validate what you enjoy, and don't let the PVP brethren say you should do it because they like it.

well before I joined the corp I'm in I had absolutely no desire for pvp. Only ratting and maybe DED sites, even though I know nothing about them. When I came across this guy he was starting his corp fresh and after a few fleet doctrine ship pvp I was kind of hooked on pvp. After experiencing solo roam I can say I dont think I'm cut out for it. I prefer being directed and in a group. I wouldn't mind doing like around 5-7 people in frigs/dessies/cruisers. Otherwise I don't think I have what it takes to pvp as a solo player. |

Don't be put off by losing so much so early into trying solo PvP. Expect to die, lots and lots and lots and lots If you just don't like it then that's fine there are plenty of places you can find small-gang PvP.
Don't force yourself to like solo PvP just do what you enjoy! |

It's descriptive name for a big fleet of ships because in warp physics engines makes then to from an uniform 'ball' hence the nick name.

Either with Phoebe or the iteration after, CCP are doing away with a lot of the crap we have to deal with regarding clones and making it far easier - and cheaper - for people to experiment with pvp.
In the meantime why not create a cheap alt and foray into lowsec in a frigate or destroyer, and just have a go?
Remember, after all, as a player you don't have to lay all your reputation on one character. You can easily create another that nobody knows, and go schizo :) |

Not everybody is suited to do everything. The only way to find out if you are is to try. By "try" I mean, give it a good effort. Get past the initial clumsiness due to lack of experience and knowledge. Get into the zone where you have somewhat of a handle on things, then decide if it's for you, or not.
You get real good at something if you really like doing it. That's what gives you the impetus to delve deeper for the skills, and dig deeper for the effort. If it's something you do not enjoy, no amount of persistence will help. You tried. You saw. You moved on to something more suited to your temperament. No harm. No foul.
DO NOT EVER let "what people might think" OR "what this might look like to others" influence your decision. It's none of their damned business in one respect, and insofar as reflecting on those around you - if they're good friends they understand. They do the same thing themselves.
If we didn't learn from our mistakes we'd all be a bunch of pointless idiots...no, wait.

Try both...but personally I prefer PvE. There is a lot of enjoyable highsec PvE, done solo, or in groups. Do whatever makes you happy, as fundamentally the point of the game is to have fun. |

Well OP, PvP lesson number one...Don't take PvP advice from Veers..he just plain doesn't do it
...although (and I can't believe I'm going to say it) he is right about trying both...as PvP is not for everyone. BUT..everyone should try PvP and know how to do it or you will be nothing but a target. You are either thepredator or the prey...and YOU decide which you will be.
If I had a nickel for every time someone said women don't play eve, I'd have a bag of nickels to whack the next person who said it..

Confirming that I never PvP.
