I want to brawl. I started playing in 2008 when Minmatar was "Winmatar" - things have changed. I have 10 million skill points, mostly invested in Minmatar ships and projectile based weapons.
Looking at all the ships, I'm starting to think that the common thread is "kiting" throughout the whole thing - high speed, long range is a prevalent theme for minmatar.
I loaded up EFT and started comparing ships in the Minmatar lineup to the Gallente "equivalent" and came to the realization that Gallente Brawlers are just straight up superior in terms of damage and tank. Minmatar has an advantage in terms of signature radius, speed, range, fitting, capless weapons, and in some instances - tracking.
So I come to you, dear forum: Which Minmatar ships are the best for in-your-face brawling? Or should I just bite the bullet and cross-train to Gallente? |

A Minmatar ship is very rarely going to outright brawl another similarly fit ship down -- a combination of generally questionable dps (positives: mostly selectable damage type and independent of capacitor) and low EHP ensures that. However, some Minmatar ships can brawl fairly well by using sig/speed tanking on a tight orbit. The Stabber and Scythe Fleets are both very good at it. Scram/web and Afterburner your way under a whole lot of incoming dps. |

That's what I was thinking. I was considering testing out a Cynabal to do exactly what you just said. My main concern is whether ot not it can get under blasters. I was thinking that a tracking distributor would go well to ensure that speed tanking works, but the TD then takes the places of something else, making it seem like an iffy decision. I was hoping to slap a web/ab/mwd/scram/cap booster. I could go without the cap booster but the cynabal already starts with a low capacitor. I haven't messed around with it much in EFT yet as I was thinking I should undock with one and see how tight of an orbit I can get with an AB on. |

Top down, the brawlers are still not bad imo.
Nag is a great dread. Oppinions vary, but it's my fave. Typhoon is a great brawler. I'd also take on almost any other BS with a Phoon. Cane.. not so much. Maybe the Navy Cane is ok, but I never flew one. Rupture is a decent brawler. The right pilot has a good chance of winning a lot of fights with it. A fleet of Ruptures could be very scary. Thrasher. Yeah, great ship. Rifter. In the old days, Rifter was King. I know that there are ships that can beat them, but again, the right pilot can still kill with a Rifter.
T2 Broadsword is a beast I could picture the Muninn being decent, but I also never flew one.
Todays game is more kitey. The old days of sit and shoot, where brick tank and DPS were factors, those fights are hard to find now. |

when i see "the right pilot" near the name of a ship i automatically know it's a subpar ship.
cyclone, breacher, slasher are good brawlers sleipnir and claymore are good brawler as well if you don't mind the price tag typhoon and maelstrom are good brawlers assuming you wont get blobbed . and by good i mean ships that with equally skilled pilots have a fair chance of winning a fight, of course a muninn with a good pilot can beat a deimos with a bad pilot but that doesn't make the muninn a good ship

Start with a dual large ASab or a dual XL asb cyclone. Learn it then work your way into a Sleipner. Cyn is also a great ship but not a brawler per say. Nado is the premiere sniper. The SFI and Vaga are not bad either. Cyclone then Sleip are probably the 2 best brawlers for Minnie. Bottom line: you can't go wrong with Min. |

Cool, thanks so much for the feedback. I was thinking Cyclone and Sleip were the best in the cruisers for Minmatar brawlers. I'm not ready for the long train time yet, but for now I'm going to join up with some others and fly a Wolf for my brawling needs. Main reason people have said Wolf isn't good as a brawler is because of a lack of mid slots. In a 2+ man fleet it can still perform (I think/hope anyways). |

I like that minmatar is no longer 'winmatar'. It means you have to know your ship and how to fly it much more nowadays.
When eve started minmatar were very much disliked as you needed so many more skills to make them viable. It's almost back to that.
Minmatar in the right hands (and no it does not mean that the ships are subpar, just that you have to actually think to utilise them properly) are perfectly viable ships and capable of a lot more than the general plebs in eve think.

Hey mate,
Look up (google) the dual prop dual rep stabber fleet issue fit. Its an oldy but a goody. Uses Dual 180mm autocannon, 2 MARs, and dual prop with a cap booster, can take on a small group of frigates and/or a couple of cruisers and come out on top. Its the definition of brawling - get in close, orbit with AB and pound them!
One of my absolute favorite cruisers.

Crosstrain for brawl (and expanding your skills in general)
Or stay for situations where no one bring any point and webs so you can lol go under their guns w pirate and t2 hull......let me know how that went.
Dps is too anemic to brawl and anythi g that is not range boosted is bad in kiting. |

The Breacher is my preferred minnie frigate to brawl with; almost like a mini-Hawk minus the obvious resist profile, but you can patch holes w rigs, slap on x2 MASB w rockets and an AB, and you're set. Cyclone and Sleip are awesome, there are some excellent PvP vids out there with those two highlighted: Crystal clone w blue pill is preferred for solo work with those two.
good luck! |

I fly Gallente hardware almost exclusively, mostly blaster boats but I've learned the ways of rail/drone kiting more recently, and I have to say, the Vagabond is probably the single most feared ship in Gal/Cal lowsec. Its insanely fast, extremely tanky with dual LASBs, and it's autoccannons will chew through pretty much anything that tries to hold it down. The Thrasher is also a terror for frigates.
I'd say the Minmitar specialty is situations where they're outnumbered by smaller ships. Thrasher, Stabber, and Vagabond are all great at luring small gangs into fights and decimating the whole bunch. I lost a fleet consisting of four VNI's and one SFI to just one Vagabond and a Gila. Given: they were shield linked to hell, but dayum!
However, I really doubt you'll be able to get 'under' a blaster boat and speed tank them from close range. All of the best Gal brawlers get a tracking bonus and would be dumb to not carry web/scram, so your better bet is to make use of the better falloff range of autocannons. Against anything other than blasters, though, get in there and scrape paint with em and make use of that superior tracking. Good luck! |

classic minmatar kite ships have a very small enable list these days
blaster boats you will never get under, but you could just straight up kite them. drones and missile will become the bane of your existence. and they're both quite popular today
artillery is pretty much unfittable to most attack ships, and the cane
stabber is great, it's like a much less tanky/punchy vaga

2008 minmatar were NOT winmatar. They apex was around 2010 after the PRojectile changes. IN 2008 they were considered the WEAKEST of all 4 races.

I'll be testing a Loki dual armour repper fit tonight. if I remember I'll report back how it performed.
Essentially the fit is based on two c-type armour reps and extremely low sig under the influence of warfare links.

I've got a dual prop stabber fit that ive been meaning to try out, it costs a total of 23mil including ammo. So less than some t2 frig hulls. Depending on the upcoming navigation changes things may just be going back to Winmatar |

Imo if you're brawling with Minmatar ships, you're doing it wrong. Having said that, the CBC aren't bad at it because they have decent tanks/damage and aren't as reliant on speed. |
