So I have always heard of smuggling, and even remember certain implants used to have a smuggling bonus on them.
I am really just curious as to what happened to this lost art, and if CCP has any plans of doing a revamp of smuggling. The Han Solo in me wants this to happen.
Any information or insight would be appreciated. |

yes to this. Give some useable reason to the 'forbidden' items in game that carry penalties if you accidentally carry them. Right now, they're just clutter.

Orcas once had the god-sent unscannable corp hangar but I believe that is no longer the case. Even if you could, an orca is a super lame smuggleboat.
The smuggling system needs work. I hate that a) the list of useful smuggle-ables is so small, and b) that the system is so... Non skill based. Interceptions based solely on a percentage chance of making it through a customs gate. In an un-game-able arbitrary system like that, people are very risk averse. For example, Jita is the only real market for combat boosters. Nobody I know of is a regular seller and shipper of boosters in hisec because it's unfun and it sucks. |

Gather round kids and let uncle reaper tell you one of his favorite eve stories...
Around, I think it was 08 maybe 09, before apocarypto, there was a player gathering in Vegas. This would be the first of the eve vegas reborn (the very first one was done in 05 and that was put on by blackhole bob, but that's a totally different story) Anyway, CCP was talking about how they were switching over to SCRUM from there project development. And so they thought it would be a great idea to split us into teams and have us make our own expansion, so we could get an idea for how CCP does it.
My team happened to have mittens on it, and a few other null gurus. We had to pick an area we wished to improve, make a 'jesus feature' or main theme of the expansion, then add on smaller parts to supplement the theme. The toher two groups went for the low hanging fruit of null sec, and came up with some.. mmm... interesting ideas. Mittens and others also said null, but I kinda piped up and said the other two teams were doing that already. So we thought about it, and someone said 'why not low sec?' and off we went.
We made EVE ONLINE: Corruption Which won out of the three, and well come on, we had mittens on the team who is a great speaker btw, and could prolly sell ice to an eskimo. Anyway, out feature was "system corruption level" but i'm not gonna address that, one of the ideas to help this was adding a low sec only or black market, which things like contraband and drugs could be openingly traded with no hassles. We also had the idea for a new ship (note, ccp was thinking of adding fuel holds to caps at this time) basically a smuggler ship that had a special smugglers hold, that could not be scanned by cargo scanners, the ship was fast and agile, but could not haul very much. The idea was you could but stuff in low sec on the black market, and run it to HS and try and sell it there.
CCP really liked the idea, and said something like 'wow we should make this an expansion' but alas never did.
So I agree, smuggling, like bounty hunting, REALLY needs another look

A low-slot mod that adds 100m3 of unscannable cargo space in a special bay that can only contain goods marked as Illegal by at least one of the Empires (to prevent people from sticking high-value items in it [such as officer mods and BPO's], and to avoid replacing Blockade Runners). This cargo space creates a new bay for each mod, so using 5 of them gives you 5 bays of 100m3, not 1 bay of 500m3 (in part to reduce the ease of moving items, as well as to increase the potential value of ganking a ship that has multiple of these bays).
No T1 or T2 version, just a single mod:
Shielded Cargohold Adds a 100m3 unscannable bay (unscannable by both NPC's and players)
Penaltiesper mod Reduces shield, armor, and hull HP by 10%. 10% penalty to agility.

Confiscation immunity is not a good idea. You're totally flipping the field and making it impossible to get caught smuggling. The word contraband becomes meaningless to those who move and sell it, what's fun about that?
Let me preface the following with a statement that I don't know what currently happens to people that 'resist interdiction'. I never got caught. Not a subject matter expert, just trying to contribute.
I would suggest that, if a Customs Officer ever catches you, you should be able to blow him up and run. This means GTFOing before the Navy response, instant aggression from any other customs officers you encounter for the rest of your delivery run, and you are also suspect flagged. But if you have a strong ship or buddy assistance, you have a chance of surviving the gauntlet to your destination. But you'll take sec/standings hits for all the ships you kill. If you don't want the sec hit, just give up the goods. This would be waaaay more fun than fitting an immunity mod and saying GG.

Isn't that basically how it is now? You don't have to give up the goods if you're caught, you can refuse, you just end up getting hunted by the NPC Navies. Please correct me if that's incorrect, though.
My consideration of a mod was to basically flag a pilot as carrying something of value if you got scanned by a player. Sure, they wouldn't know if you were actually hauling anything at that point in time, but if you had the mod fit, or even several, it may be worth the risk.

because of that and massive cargohold, its the best, you just put the things in cargo containers, put them into your fleet hangar, and put stash of 1000 ECCM modules in 1 piece packages.
Thy can search it for eternity and ECCM bounces off any scanning beam. \o/
OK, i made it up, but why isn't that working in this way? Percentage chance regarding the amount of cargo and the way its hidden, like in real life.
Also, anyone refusing to give out the smuggled cargo, should be flagged as suspect for everyone.

but still, where is the 'reason' to be doing this? Way smuggle? There no reason or reward, save a small financial gain, which can be mirrored similarly and exceeded easily elsewhere. For me, that's the bit that's missing. No driver.

The Rules: 5. Trolling is prohibited.
Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive, and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.
27. Off-topic posting is prohibited.
Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued to the off-topic poster.

I am pretty sure the title of my post should have given it away that this is a light hearted discussion on the topic of smuggling. I had just read through the thread for the first time, and there was literally no reason for you to remove any posts. Nothing was "insulting", and nothing was really "off-topic" as the title insinuated I am smuggling plums in my pants, but the content brings you back to the game. The only reason I can see you removing posts or anything of that nature is that CCP is watching the thread, but as we all know CCP does not really care what we say/does what they please anyway.
You quite literally broke both of those rules by removing posts, and posting here. Not only are you NOT contributing to the sense of community on our forums, but you are breaking up actual discussion to get your power fix for the day.

In case you also look at reddit, there is an actual topic mentioning tha the whole drug stuff should be looked at: http://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/2mt425/can_we_have_more_drugs/
I can confirm that booster manufacturing, transporting illegal items in Hisec etc. need some changes to make it a viable option as profession. Whenever I search for details how to produce drugs I always find the comment: Don't do it, if you are not in a big cartel it's not worth it because of the high complexity and the missing market.
Maybe some "more legal" drugs which could be used in Hisec, additioanl sources for gas types (currently spread over whole eden with Hisec in the middle blocking any transports), easier drug manufacturing (mobile drug lab) could help. |

There really isn't a missing market for it. I think if you seeded a pretty heavily used LS system with boosters they would sell out very quickly. You would just have to advertise, and pick a very good location ( FW hubs or something of that nature). Also, as someone pointed out, the new WH "trade hub" will probably be a pretty good place to smuggle things of that nature in. Only problem being that I assume it will be completely full of insta-locking campers sitting on entrances. |

A complete overhaul with a new ship class would be amazing for this. Could put a new skill subset in under social giving you the ability to pay off customs officers if you get caught so you can keep moving along, etc. You could have "smuggler" missions where you meet your shady pirate contact in HS who directs you to go to somewhere in LS to pick up a package to be delivered somewhere in HS. Should be allowed to take multiple smuggling contracts at a time (capped at 4 or something like that) to make it even more interesting.
The possibilities for this are pretty endless. |
