So its been bugging me; i dont see hoe this website could work since theres no api access for local chat.
I know that eve's chat works (or used too?) On the irc protocol, so does the website have access to that or does it somehiw scrape the information from cache?
Any insight would be helpful.
Thanks. |

Probably just scraping the chat logs that eve saves by default. |

What Ryan said. Chribba just monitors the chat logs of the client. :)

Yep to what both Raynaldo and FoxFour said. Which is also the reason why it's only Jita and Amarr local. Since you have to have one client for each "local" you wish to monitor.

Ok well i have another pseudo-related question. Is there anyway to set up automated eve mailer for stuff like jabber notifications? Or preferably something that can post into a chat room in eve? |

Hardcore screen scrapers and maybe some autohotkey... But pretty sure thats all against the EULA. So don't go that route maybe we can convince foxfour to open up chatting in channels with the api and then open up the market to the api's. Then we would never have to login to eve! |

Go take a look at the Rhea devblog from Seagull ;) (Though it'll be read only from the markets. And I'd be yelling at CCP if they changed that. I don't think they will. If they did, market bots ahoy)
Chat is a longer term goal.

Wait.... wait wwait wait wiat hold your horses there big boy. Did you just imply that there's a possibility I might be able to tie my spreadsheets directly into pulling apis for the market, instead of having to go through #Error-Central.com for market prices?
Or would that only pull info relating to market orders I have up? |

It will be behind authenticated CREST to allow for higher rate limits so it would take some futzing to get in a spreadsheet, but yes you'll be able to see all market orders.

Yea, it's not really going to work for spreadsheets directly. You will still need EVE Central to be your middle man. :)

It's highly suitable for web applications.
Not so much for spreadsheets, unless you want to do a lot of scripting, and have access to a full http stack.

Or setup your own middle man app that will predownload all needed data from crest end returns it in format suitable for your spreadsheet.

Given how frequently I have pull errors from Eve-Central these days, This would be nice. What I'd really like to do is get something that could pull market information without me actually logging a character in, at the trade hub(s). I'm in no fashion looking to modify that information, be able to place or change orders, just to read market data. |

So what's up with evelocal, Chribba? How come you're not running it ATM?

Are you using "importXML" in Google Docs? That's the only way I can see getting errors from Eve-Central often.
Steve has built a script to fetch the data for you. His method never has errors as far as I'm aware. I'm sure Steve could further vouch for the reliability of his script. Link to Steve's Eve-Central Script
