I found a pos bpc in a data site exploring so it got me to thinking about setting one up to do industry.
With all the changes from the last few updates does it make sense any more to run one in High Sec? I do a small amount of T2 modules and rig invention/manufacturing at stations now with the occasional T2 frigate thrown in. I could scale it up if I wanted.
The margins on everything I had been building have pretty much died so for now I am not making much of anything.
It was a Guristas Medium tower.
If I did it I would create an alt and a corp just for setting up the tower. Do you need to be in the corp to use it or can any one with the shield password do industry jobs?
Thanks.

You have to be in the corp. You can calculate if its worth it, small POS costs around 100M/month, you save 2% on materials and 10% facility tax you pay when you manufacture in stations.

Another thing with producing in a POS is that you can set it up in a system without manufacture slots. And have a low index for awhile. |

I have a large Caldari tower for industry, and a small Caldari tower for reprocessing-only.
This was a good month, and I earned well over 1b ISK just selling copies. The POS more than pays for the fuel cost, which is around 420m ISK per month. It also saves me a lot of ISK because there is no 10% tax on jobs.
You don't need a POS to be profitable though, and a small tower is good enough unless you are paranoid like me. |

You may be behind a patch or two on that information. It is no longer possible to obtain 100% refine efficiency. |

Not since July (Crius expansion) POS gets 2% base better than a station (lowsec POS can get 4%) |

I get 2% more yield from it than at a station [or +1.67232% the old perfect refine].
I can also compress at it, which makes the yield higher (rounding - can fill the array with more ore / ice) and hauling easier.
I only online the reprocessing tower when needed, typically for 1-2 hours max. You can do a LOT in that time (many freighter runs full).

As others already pointed out, manufacturing in a POS has its advantages. Besides the 2% decrease in material requirements for most of the arrays and the lack of taxes, you also have a 25% decrease in manufacturing time, resulting in a 33% increase in produced volume of items compared to a station. Also, you're not bound to systems with a station anymore. Since you can no longer use blueprints from an office in system, it does not matter whether there is a station or not, actually, those systems without any can be a better choice due to the lower cost indices, because fewer people will use those systems for industry, and those who do, will setup a POS.
