As some of you may or may not know, when I am not exploring the spacelanes, I spend much of my time overseeing a propulsion laboratory and the small scale fabrication facilities to produce ships and components for prototype testing, all of which comes under the umbrella of my firm Kraid Drive Labs (note: not currently registered as a capsuleer organization).
We specialize in small ships, though maintain knowledge of larger craft for completeness, and to keep track of advances in that area in case any techniques may be taken and applied to smaller drives and in some cases improved upon.
Though Our major partners are Ishukone and Lai Dai, I occasionally put out feelers for new advancements elsewhere. Recently some tidbits of information on a new ship have filtered into the private sector, and there are rumors that whatever it is that is being worked on is a mostly complete design, though I have no way of telling for certain. Given the work that my firm does, I was able to acquire some engine schematics. Much of it doesn't make much sense without schamatics for the rest of the ship; at least the power and control systems, but what I can gather surprises me.
First of all the drive is a small class drive at the larger end, given the propulsion characteristics, it is almost certainly a destroyer rather than a frigate, and the overall design has vague similarities to Amarr engineering. The problem where that breaks down, though are the presence of fullerene based components; even with the Amarr influences the overall engine design seems very much sleeper derived, so I can only conclude that a new tech 3 ship is being worked on. The most interesting aspect of the drive, however, is that it appears to be able to alter the drive dynamics. Without installing inertial stabilizers or overdrive injectors, the drive should be able to achieve the same effect with the application of additional power.
This is unprecedented as far as I am aware, and I am wondering if anyone else happens to know anything about it. I would also like any information anyone has on similar programs from the other empires as a response to this one.
Meanwhile I will continue to study what little I have, but, again, it is much more difficult to understand without knowing what the rest of the ship the drive attaches to is like. |

I knew of that announcement, I guess I missed them actually declaring what they were using the resources gathered for specifically. At the very least this may be some confirmation and have further details not mentioned in the news posting.
Still the details are interesting. The propulsion segment at least seems much less self contained than those in Strategic Cruisers, and at the same time, Strategic Cruisers can't adjust flight parameters without swapping subsystems and modules. It certainly brings new capabilities not seen in any other design not even the current T3 ships. |
