The Problem:
A Warrior I Invention job needs Graviton Physics Datatcores which are Gallente datacores i.e. you find them in data sites in Gallente space. Fine. Leave advanced drone production to Highsec where you can buy it or Gallente space where you can find it.
Mining Lasers I require a Laser Datacore as well, which makes sense considering they are Lasers. What doesn't is that apparently only Amarr people/scientists have ever heard of these "Lasers". So data facilities in other areas of space naturally don't have them. Which I can deal with, I don't really need them that bad.
Medium Ice Harvester Accelerator Rigs needs the Conductive Polymer Salvage component which is in the loot tables for some other faction than Minmatar and this is too much. Why. All factions need ice. All factions use the same mining barges, lasers, shield mods, mining upgrades, etc. Why would something like a rig, which is basically something you throw together from the garbage you scrape off the battlefield after everything was looted, not producable locally anywhere but a very specialized region of space.
These are just 3 examples.
I get there has to be a differentiation between the races/factions so that you can't sustain Amarr invention and T2 production anywhere but Amarr space but this is ridiculous.
It makes no sense for something as basic as drone tech, which all factions use, Gallente just have the most and or best boni, or mining lasers, which you really need basically everywhere, to be exclusive to one faction.
My proposed fix:
Differentiate from Racial invention to more common things
Categories for salvage and Datacore should consist of
[ Racial ] + [ Specialized ] + [ Common ]
[ Racial ] for exclusive or heavily bonused things, like weapons or special kinds of ewar
[ Specialized ] for things that get bonuses across 2 races like armor for Gallente and Amarr
[ Common ] for things everyone needs all over new eden, like cargo hold rigs or expanded cargohold invention
for a T2 rig or invention you'd need [ Racial ] + [ Common ] Stuff
for an Amor rig or invention you'd need [ Specialized ] + [ Common ] Stuff
for a cargo hold rig or invention you'd need 2 x [ Common ] Stuff
Why ? / Why not HTFU ? :
When doing inventions or making rigs for which the components don't drop in the area of space you're in there are 3 options:
to do it in Highsec,
to do it in a different area of space where the components drop, which is hard or impossible depending on where or how you live
to buy the stuff needed in Highsec, ship it to where you need them, use them there to do what you want to do, but then I could as well go to highsec and buy my products directly and not bother with exploration, invention and manufacturing.
With the removal of Clone upgrade costs because "they offer no interesting choice to the players" I feel I can make an argument that if I want to do T2 invention or rig production for common things in nullsec these "options" offer no interesting choice either. |

Sustaining invention of any scale involves buying datacores. Mostly from FW people.

I can handle myself fairly well with all of my datacores coming out of data sites in null. So objectively no but it's fair enough. I can understand T2 stuff being hard to invent even if it comes to things like expanded cargoholds IIs or T2 drones. It really doesn't make any sense to buy datacores and ship them to null though.
But T1 rigs are a different matter.
Thanks for reading. |

Other races know about lasers, it is just that Amarrians are laser SPECIALISTS.
Same for drones: Gallente are the drone specialists (apart from the Rogue Drone accident).
The real oddities in my book are: * ORE is Gallente, and though they do have some drone emphasis, they most definitely use lasers. * SoE is Gallente & Minmatar, yet their ships use lasers (drones make sense here though). |

True, ORE are Gallente, but they specialize in mining lasers. Second, SOE ships are Gallente & Amarr, thus lasers and drones do make sense there.

Aside from small scale "I make my own T2 ammo" industrialists, all science and industry cannot be done solo. I dislike any sort of idea that allows for solo industry. |

SoE dislike Amarr though SoE doesn't exactly dislike anyone.
They have humanitarian issues with some goverments, but are willing to work with anyone.
But Amarr dislikes SoE for some reason ;)
CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

This, I use thousands of datacores and hundreds of decryptors a month and I don't consider myself a largescale inventor. (As well as billions of ISK worth of PI materials, minerals and moongoo).

I still feel like the rig material requirements are unfair. |
