So here are is my feedback:
1) Ugly. Look I'm not going to candy coat it CCP that concept art/model is just bad IMO.
2) It does not look like AMARR!!! This goes hand in hand with point #1. Is that suppose to be an AMARR ship? If so please go back to the drawing board and fix it.
3) All the transformations are too subtle. No really again you need to go back to the drawing board.
4) Players rarely see enemy ships models (this is more important and bigger than all other points)
Due to the UI and overall design of how far away the camera is in relation to your targets we are almost NEVER looking at our enemy ship models (unless you count selecting them and actually flying our camera over to them) but the reality is, you never do that. So while having a transforming ship that has different combat abilities is in theory cool, the practicality of it when it comes to EVE, is not so cool.
4) So to fix point #3 you'll need to add information/icon on top of the ship so that when we have it targeted we can get information/feedback as to which mode is active. If you don't do that, then I really see this whole concept design failing.
Thanks for taking time to read.

OP, Point 4 negates Points 1-3
I like the ship and am looking forward to the other ones. I like the animations as well so I suppose it is like art or music. Differing taste IS allowed and you are welcome to your opinion as we are to ours.

I'd have to disagree with the fact that it does not look Amarrian in design. The whole point of it is that it ISN'T fully Amarrian, it incorporates Sleeper tech, and that fundamentally changes how the ship is going to look, based on how the Amarrian tech and Sleeper tech has to be interfaced between each other.
An example to look at is the Legion. Put the right subsystems on it, and it downright does NOT look fully Amarrian. It has non Amarrian, hell, if you want to be technical that has largely been developed outside New Eden, so of course it's going to differ in design from their own ships. They had to build the Confessor and Legion around Sleeper tech, and it's incorporation/adaptation to Amarrian tech, which is much more involved than changing a few screws around.
---
For the subtle transformations, alright, big deal. Ship model animations are still relatively new to EVE, so they aren't going to be turning this long and thin ship into a fat block any time soon. Even then, if you have a fleet of 20-30 Confessors going around, and they all transition at once, that's going to be a lot for the server to process, so subtle saves performance.
---
As for your fourth point, I disagree, I frequently manually go and check hostile ship models for intel. Look at it, and you can tell not only what weapon type it has (hybrid, projectile, energy, missiles), you can also find out whether it's the short, medium, or long range variant, which can be great to know, tactically, and can help you plan on what to hit. Granted, this generally only works for solo/small gang fights, as in big fights they're pretty much clobber fests anyways, and most of what you shoot is gonna melt. But going into a solo/small fight, and knowing if that cruiser in front of me has short range weapons or long range weapons, passive tank or active tank, any extras such as SeBos or ECCM, can be a great boon, and sure, we'd have to check the Confessor frequently to see which mode it's in, but that would just add another thing to mind tactically, which would make the whole shebang much more fun. |

No they aren't. And no, CCP doesn't.

You already did a 4. But, no they don't. And no it won't. Also, you'll know what mode it's in because if speed, it goes faster, if defensive, your damage notification get smaller, and if sniper, it can hit you from farther away.

while i disagree with most parts i agree with the statement that it doesn't look amarr. i said that 2 days ago to a friend: paint it green and it would be a good gallente ship.
and the legion looks amarrian with sleeper tech, so why can't the confessor? |

There is nothing like this with the current T3s, so why should you have such easy intel with new ones?

-Jara 1: Personally I find it to be both elegant and utilitarian in design, and I find that appealing. I particularly like the tasteful geometric pattern on the upper gold casement as it is both high tech and yet still looks like a pattern one might find in a cathedral. The floral filigree on some of the other Amarr vessels (Dragoon for example) never quite did it for me.
2: The few parts of the ship that don't look Amarr scream "Sleeper Tech".
3: I'd hardly call huge sensor snapping into place, sliding armor panels along the forward third of the hull, and moving/hidden engines being hidden or moving to a different position anything but "too subtle".
4: This eye candy is primarily intended for the pilot of the ship, as is most of the ship design work in EVE. Although if you'd ever been a scout trying to figure out the armament and tank on enemy vessels you'd realize the value of putting your camera on enemy vessels once in a while.
There is a time for staring at a fight as boxes on a screen, but there are also times when it beneficial to actually know enough about EVE to know what the different weapons and effects look like... or in this case, hull configurations. Especially when dealing with fleets including Strategic Cruisers or (lol) Marauders, and this will become even more important moving forward.

The ability to keep a small windowed camera view focused on the enemy would actually be handy on occasion. |

A pip view of the ship you currently have as your target has been discussed, not all that long ago actually. I haven't seen anything that says they have dismissed the idea.
It would be ideal for kiting, as well as those of us that make EVE video's.

It's great. It's the most detailed model yet. It brings a new idea to Amarr design language (the tiled pattern on top) that makes sense (ornate geometric tiling brings to mind Persian/Ottoman design). It sure beats the floral design seen on Amarr ships up to this point.
Jaradakar wrote: 2) It does not look like AMARR!!! This goes hand in hand with point #1. Is that suppose to be an AMARR ship?
Well it doesn't look like a bloated chicken if that's what you mean. It sneaks the pointed beak shape in there without resorting to looking like some sort of derpy spacebird. It has rounded forms so it's obviously not Caldari or Minmatar. Its beige and gold and has ornate designs. Must be Amarr.
Jaradakar wrote: 3) All the transformations are too subtle. No really again you need to go back to the drawing board.
Has the most transformation of any ship in EVE so far.

I use the look-at button on the selected item panel to check out the tank and guns on my targets all the time. Will use it to check the stance on T3 destroyers as well.

As a brawler myself, I can tell you straight up that I personally like to see my enemies as up close and personal as I possibly can, so actually, I see the models of opponent's ships quite often. Much more satisfying to see them explode from up close than 50+ km away.

Ty for saving me a ton of typing. The confessor has a very distinct amarrian appearance to it, looking like some sort of miniature abaddon, or similar battleship. While old caldari ships (not such a fan of the new) will always be my baby, the confessor looks pretty sweet.
For a guy ragging on and on about the ship, it's funny that the OP doesn't even know the name of it. Seriously though, if you need tooltips popping up telling you what mode your enemy is in, and what bonuses that mode gives them, EvE isn't the right game for you. Farmville should be more your style. I'll get my grandmother to invite you to her farm. |
